A remember HS sliding practice in March in the gym on the gym floor. We had print outs of different types of slides. Crazy stuff, but there are absolutely ways to slide feet first and hold the bag.
I hate this with replay. It is one thing when a guy slides off or really pops up off the bag but when you need replay to see that their heel popped half an inch up off the bag - that is just going too far.I think that as long as you have video replay, and infielders holding the tag through the play, you will have head first slides. It's easier to maintain control of the base. Sliding feet first, the runner is more likely to lose contact with the base by a millimeter for a nanosecond.
IMO they gotta do something about that rule. It's not what replay was for.
That one is inexplicable. Now that game is over can someone please explain Marte’s at bat during the rally ???
Take 1 down middle
Fake bunt on one right down middle
Take strike 3 100% RIGHT DOWN THE MIDDLE ?????

For the worse. If you want to criticize Mendoza for not giving the take sign, that is fair. But I won't criticize Torrens for swinging 2-0. That is what hitters do nowadays. Nobody comes to the plate with the intention of taking a pitch. The game has changed over the years.
Yeah, Mendoza didn't have any good options. Torrens was the most likely among them to get a hit, but he was also most likely to hit into a DP. Might have been a good time for a hit and run play, if such a thing still exists.Mets fans on FB blasting Mendoza for not pinch hitting for Torrens in the 9th with either Taylor, who hasnt hit for months and has reverse splits against lefties, or Mauricio, who as we've seen is terrible as a right handed batter. But then in these groups they criticize him for almost everything.
I dont trust Senga. While the Phillies have now had back to back 12 strikeout games from their starters after seeing Wheeler be lost; that is what he gave us last night.Yeah, Mendoza didn't have any good options. Torrens was the most likely among them to get a hit, but he was also most likely to hit into a DP. Might have been a good time for a hit and run play, if such a thing still exists.
Shame that Marte was unavailable to pinch hit due to Nimmo's injury. But if he were, Mendoza might have used him in the sixth, and we would have been left with Senger. Oh well. If things were different, they'd be different. Get 'em tomorrow and win the series.
Although unless Senga (as opposed to Senger) finds his old form, we won't be winning enough series.
Ridiculous. Knowing he has that weak arm. I know they need to show something and come back in this game.Pete helped this inning get out of control
Not even close to getting runner out at second base on a sac bunt. Easy out at first , take the first out of the inning
Honestly that's not much of a list with the exception of Framber Valdez and Merrill Kelly. And Kelly will be pushing 37.One or two of the following gonna get paid
This pitching staff absolutely blows

Stanek may be DFA'd on Monday, as the Mets will need a starter then. It's Senga's turn, but Senga is ineffective on "normal" rest. We certainly wouldn't want him to be any less effective than he is now. Although I guess they could start Montas.Pretty well deserved. And Stanek needs to be dfa'd. They have certainly let more effective relivers than him go all season.
The Pads released Martin Maldonado recently. He was hitting .204. He's only 39 years old.Another question is - can the Mets find another catcher who might be an upgrade? Hardly seems likely. The only trades they can make would be for guys who have not been on anybody's 40 man all year. (Think 2024 Eddy Alvarez.) I'm sure there are currently unemployed guys out there - one would be longtime Dodger backup Austin Barnes - but would they be an upgrade?
How in God's name can a guy who hits 100 mph not learn a grip that gives his ball a little movement!Pretty well deserved. And Stanek needs to be dfa'd. They have certainly let more effective relivers than him go all season.
That is one unattractive line for Hamel. He was a Top 10 prospect not long ago, and arguably the team's top pitching prospect. Then he got passed over by about a dozen guys. That's a good thing. He does have Phantom Met status going for him (i.e., spent time on the roster but never appeared in a game). Not much good on the farm yesterday either except for another good start from Jon Santucci.
