OT: NY Mets 2025 Season Thread

He had a rough start here in NY a few years back but he is a person that is very difficult not to like.
Reds over Mets
Mets and d backs tied , goes to own division record . D backs plus 4 Mets at 500 with Nats and marlins to play
It isn’t surprising that Piazza and Wright did it also but the other player is surprising
You have it backwards. Mets have the tie breaker over the Giants but not the Reds.
Scenarios----Does this seem correct? Obviously, keep winning is the best case scenario
Mets:
2 at home against San Diego (Padres 3-1 vs Mets this season)
3 at home against Washington (Mets 6-4 vs Nationals this season)
3 away at Chicago Cubs (Mets 2-1 vs Cubs this season)
3 away at Miami (Mets 5-5 vs. Marlins this season)
Diamondbacks (1.5 games back) have 1 vs SF; 3 vs Phils; 3 vs Dodgers; 3 at Padres
Giants (3 games back) have 1 at Arizona; 4 at Los Angeles; 3 at home vs St Louis; and 3 at home vs. Colorado
Reds (3 games back) have 1 at Cards, 4 vs Cubs, 3 vs Pirates, 3 @MilwaukeeBadger
Tie breakers-head to head W-L record:
Diamondbacks: 3-3
Giants: 4-2
Reds: 2-4
Second Tiebreaker if tied (Diamondbacks)-Intradivision Records:
Mets: 23-23
Diamondbacks:25-20
If a tie for 3rd Wild Card, Best Case Scenario is for Giants to win today and tie
Next best case is for Mets and Diamondbacks to be tied, but Mets wind up with a better intradvision record
Worst Case Scenario if a tie is to be tied with Reds
Seems like if we can finish out 7-4...It would make it very difficult for one of the others to pass us. What scares me is the team I think has the best shot of winning 9 games to close out the season, is Arizona. Edit- just saw they play Phils/Dodgers/Padres - though, any of those 3 may be sitting starters by that point.
Yep, and the Mets play the mighty Marlins, who have had a good time against the Mets this season. Hoping last night is the start of a run/rally that solves all the scenarios.

If I have my facts right, the Diamondbacks were 9 games out of the wildcard and sellers at the trading deadline. It's a testament to how crappy the Mets have been that they are still in the race. It would be nice if the Giants can salvage a game today but ultimately the Mets have to show that they deserve to be in the playoffs. It looks like 85 wins will get the job done.

If the Pads don't swap roles for Miller and Saurez they'll do nothing in the post season. They seem like they don't want to make him an 8th inning guy because that would hurt his feelings. The guy is 34 years old and and leaving the team after this year. Miller is 27 and under team control for the next few years.

Mets did not win, but they did do something noteworthy. Set an all-time record for most pitchers used in a season. 46. Forty-six.
By contrast, the 1986 Mets used 15.
I don't expect this record.to.stand.for.very long though. Th previous record of 45 was set by the Marlins just last year. That's where the game is at right now.

FWIW, they only used 43 "real" pitchers, plus three position players.
The record may be broken and broken soon, but it still speaks to the lack of consistency of the pitching this year. Some of it is also due to how Stearns manages the pitching staff portion of the roster.
That said, the pitching hasn't been the only problem. Major portions of the offense seem to be streaky, with almost the entire lineup becoming cold as ice or white hot at times. This has also contributed to the up and down nature of the team's performance thisyear and, to some extent, last year.
Over the last 2 months, though, the staff has been in a fairly constant downward spiral.
As to the offense, it would be interesting to see an analysis on whether the Mets lineup has been more "streaky" this year (and maybe last) than most lineups in the majors.
All that said, this has become incredibly disappointing.

It is too bad that at the start of the season when pitching was lights out, that our offense was horrible. If the offense was the same in the first 2 months as it is now, could have easily added 5-10 more wins

The offense wasn't horrible. It was never horrible. For the first 1/3 of the season, our pitching was the best in baseball, and the hitting was slightly above average. All of which resulted in unsustainably good results.
Soto was not good, Baty/Vientos sucked, McNeil wasn't hitting and our Catchers and CF were barely above .200 with no power.
Now- Any given night, we can put 9 guys in the lineup that would be considered good to great hitters.
