Three baseball and one hockey?

Only one (out of all the sports when we do this) even uses NJ in their name.

Come on, man.🤷‍♂️

Love seeing videos on social media of Painter, Abel and McGarry toeing the rubber. High hopes!

Top 2 bullpen arms, Dominguez and Alvarado signed extensions the past 2 days. Every story coming out of Spring training is about Painter, which is to be expected since there are not many roster spots that are up in the air, just the last couple of bench spots and last reliever.

Will be interesting to see how they manage his innings.

Excited for this season but the NL East is stacked, will be fun to see it played out.

Best day of the baseball season. The day in the season the longest time from the end of the season.

Phils v. Yanks on CSNPH right now.

Save painter for later int he year when one of the SPs need a break in innings. The new guy from the Mets has a history of falling apart at the All Star Break IIRC.

Walker can be lights out at times, usually early season. But, he is due a full solid year.

2 hour 15 minute game today for the Phillies vs Tigers. Mets / Astros was just over 2 and a half. Bullish early signs about the impact of the pitch clock.

I don’t mind a long game, but I want it lengthened by scoring rallies, not guys walking in circles during deep counts.

The Mariners had a reliever last year that drove me nuts with his lengthy rituals. Took his glove off after every pitch.

I saw some of these game times and took a double take. If we get them down to 2:30 in the regular season, baseball may just save itself. To me, along with banning the shift, is absolutely huge. We should see more action squeezed into less time. That's a huge win.

Didn't see the game today, but saw this tweet. If Casty can lay off a that pitch all season and get back to having decent numbers that would be nice.

So I just heard that Harper is hitting off a tee and might take live BP before the end of Spring Training.

If he can swing the bat in BP why can't he DH? Is it the fact he'd be swinging harder in a game AB then in a BP AB or are they afraid of injury via HBP?

I mean if you can swing you can swing, no?

@zappaa would you grace me with your opinion on this?

Only happy to hear because I got him 10th round or later on 3 of my 4 fantasy teams...:) But respectfully- his return is scary to every other team

I think, and I'm obviously not an expert here, that the difference between swinging off a tee and facing live pitching for him is that he can better control the speed and force he exhorts on his elbow during the swing. On a tee it's just swinging through and keeping the muscle memory active. On live pitching he has to react and swing with his usual force.

Keep in mind, he's going to need some time to adjust to the new rules as well, as he took the 11th longest of any batter last year with no one on base

According to this they are going to ramp him up gradually and he should be up around the All Star break.

Yeah we're thinking the same way - I would just like to hear the official reason why BP is different from reg ABs on his elbow.

Well we won't be seeing Painter to start the season. I'd rather have him available in the playoffs anyway. Hopefully it's not more serious than this.

Suarez pulled from WBC and out for a bit as well.

Well that's a bunch of news...

I'm fine with Painter being delayed. He's 19. Get him healthy and let him have a shot if needed later in the summer.

Hoskins carted off the field, Thompson says in interview afterward that he was walking around clubhouse, but that doesn't mean he's OK.

Ya know if that retard would put in the effort to learn how to field 1B he might not find himself running in circles hurting his knee on a short hop grounder.

Get in front of it. Knock it down. Pick it up. Toss to the P covering 1B. It's not rocket science.

He should ask Keith Hernandez for pointers- oh wait...nevermind...

I really don't mean to make light of any player's injury. I hope Hoskins injury is not long term. But it is scary when it is non contact.

I'm not asking him to be Keith Hernandez. Just play it like a motivated little leaguer would.

Get in front of the ball.

Brutal all the way around. It certainly does not look like our year.

Well be fine. Let's see if Hall can hit 25-30 HR. He looked like he could last year.

Turner adds 30 HR from SS in addition to speed OBP.

Like I said above. Move Schwarber to 1B, find a OF. They got an OF guy killing the ball this spring, some guy named Cave (I keep thinking Nick, LOL) Also Scotty Jetpack has been raking this spring. Plenty of options until teams decide if they are buyers or sellers later in the summer for an upgrade if needed.

I hope so, but even before this, I have not liked how we have looked in spring training.

See my updates to that post. Cave, Jetpack, there's a kid in AAA that stole 90 bases as an OF but his stick needs work.

If you hate Hoskins' defense wait until you get an extended look at Hall. I like his bat though especially against right handed pitching. I'll believe it when I seen it done in real games with Kingrey, he's had plenty of chances to prove he belongs on a MLB roster and hasn't yet since his initial burst. There is no way a team with playoff aspirations should have (Jake) Cave be anything more than a bench player. In him you are asking a 30 yr old with below average career numbers to suddenly turn it around.

However, I do think the Phils have some parts that they can mix and match in to see what sticks until someone shakes loose around the trading deadline. Mostly I think Hall will see most of 1B against rightys, Bohm will shift there against leftys with Sosa playing 3b. With Sosa and Harrison they have 2 guys that can play a super utility role.

Will be interesting to see if they put Harper there when he is ready to play a bit without the concerns of long throws from the outfield.

Schwarber made it clear yesterday that he does not want to play first. And the Phillies have no outfield depth with Harper injured, so they need Schwarber in left.

Yeah if it were me I'd play Schwarber there. Let Hall DH. I know he's a butcher in the field.

Agree on Kingery. Also sure Cave is a stretch but he's hitting the **** out of the ball with this current batting coach. Maybe he's leaned something. My point is they have options to try until the trade deadline. With Schwarber at 1B it should be easy to find a LF with some power if needed then - or find a 1B and put Schwarber back in LF.

Remember once Harper is back, he plays DH, Hall to 1B Schwarber to LF - or Harper to RF Hall to DH Schwarber/Casty to 1B/LF.

So basically "bat only" Hall is on the bubble at the trade deadline. And he's gonna get a good look.

The Phils can let the holes reveal themselves over the first half of the season. The Phils have options to try before the trade deadline.

Remember Turner might replace Hoskins power numbers at SS.

Ya never know the Phils might come out ahead with Harper in RF, Hall(?) at DH and Casty/Schwarber shifted around.

Also, Hall apparently is hitting LH pitching this spring. (Yeah I know)

Should be interesting...

ETA: one of my other Philly guys disagrees and says Hall is a much better 1B defensively than Hoskins was so he's not limited to DH. I guess we'll see.

That ump needs a talking to from the Commish. What a jack-off move that was.
At least it was only spring training! My guess is that the umpires and players aren't used to the time rules yet, and so the umpires misinterpret innocent behavior as resentment of the rules.
