Ugh. This team is playing poorly. All the pitchers took a step back. The SS is pulling a Casty this year. Everyone else seems to be in a slump. And they are playing TERRIBLE defense. I've seen time after time IFers not getting in front of the damn ball. What is it with modern baseball players that they're backing up on ground balls, playing them to the side. If I played like that in HS my coach would have benched me.

Well said, Turner needs to step it up big time. And this nonsense of changing the lineup each night is driving me nuts. Let the players settle in please.

As if things couldn't get worse:The Angels recalled Mickey Moniak from the minors and placed him in left.
In his first 10 games,he's hitting .419 with 4 HR,which is a pace of 65 in a 162 game season.

Good for him, he had a great spring for the Phils last year before getting hurt, then couldn't put it together when he came back.

Sometimes a player just needs a change of scenery. That might especially be true for a player who was the first player taken in the draft and didn't develop as rapidly as the team and fans hoped.

In any case, it's not a disaster. Marsh has been fine as a centerfielder. Moniak would not have been able to beat out Schwarber/Castellanos both because of their slugging and (frankly) their contracts.

BTW, Odubel Herrera seems to have dropped from sight after being released last August by the Phillies.

Well it's a fluke but good for Mickey. He was always a decent guy.

@zappaa John Kruk of the Phillies broadcast team talking about Yogi and D Day. Nice story. I didn't know Yogi landed on D Day. Hero.

Also, apparently Kruk is talking to Yogi at Steinbrenner field one Spring and Jeter walks by. Kruk tells him "Nice year last year". Jeter says thanks and he's really proud of the Championship ring. Yogi says to Jeter "call me when you have enough rings for your other hand too". (Paraphrasing) LOL

Let me quote:

"During the invasion, Berra manned a landing craft support vessel from which he said he "sprayed bullets and rockets across the heavily fortified beach fronts before the troops landed."

Berra was wounded in the hand by incoming enemy fire; he was later awarded the Purple Heart Medal."

The wildfire smoke was so bad yesterday, the Phillies called up Von Haze.
You've got to be a long time fan to remember him! You'll recall he was famous for "five for one" -- the deal that brought him from Cleveland for five players.

It was so long ago he forgot how to spell Hayes! 🤣
I moved to Philadelphia in 1988 and became an instant fan of the Phillies, even though they were terrible. Being able to go from work/home to the ballpark in 15 mins was a big part of it.
Hayes became an All Star in 1989.

You're right -- but IIRC he was never a popular player. Part of it was five-for-one. When the Phillies publicity people did their barnstorming the winter after he left the club, they found that every group would cheer loudly the news that he was gone.

I had a Sunday plan then. Yes, the team was terrible and, as I'm sure you'd agree, Veteran Stadium was not an especially pleasant place to watch a ballgame.

This was my childhood and my introduction to baseball. I really started watching in 1985 when Schmidt played one season at 1B. Hayes was one of my favorites, along with Glenn Wilson and Juan Samuel. We used to get a pack of Phillies Franks and use the coupons inside for 4 free tickets in the 700 level.
Later, in the late 90s, I worked at the Vet as an usher and loved every second of it. Sure, I h ad to sit through Jeff Brantley blowing saves at the slowest pace imaginable (He'd be a pitch clock violator today), but it was a perfect job for me at the time. The stadium was empty, so I got paid $50 a game to watch baseball by myself. It was the best.

If we look back at Dallas Green fleecing the Phils of young players like Ryan Sandberg, and then look at this Von Hayes deal, it is easy to see why the Phils were mostly terrible from the mid-80's to the surprised '93 season.

Imagine how much better we would have been with those 2 middle infielders.

Big win tonight. Wheeler pitches a gem, and a nice comeback in the ninth. The Bank will be rocking tomorrow night with the Dodgers coming in.

Cool to see Clemens with the walk off and his father was up in the booth earlier. Special moment for him.

You can only play the teams on the schedule, but they just beat up on a couple of bad teams. Need to keep it going and win the next few series against some better teams.

Great win against a great team. Play of the game was Schwarber legging out a triple. Then in the Post game he says he reaction to the ball hitting the fence in that area was "Oh no!" - knowing he was going to have to leg out a triple. LOL

Harper is below .200 vs lefties this season.
Pitching around Nick to get to him in the 8th showed that the opposition no longer fears him in that matchup.
