Do you not know how football works? It seems like nobody realizes that sign stealing in itself is not illegal. The NCAA bylaw reads, “Off-campus, in-person scouting of future opponents (in the same season) is prohibited” … In fact this rule was put in place not because of competitive advantage but because it was a cost cutting measure in 1994.
Teams steal signals from each other ALL the time. By B1G rules teams MUST provide sideline video of every game. What is stupid is that some teams, knowing this, don't bother changing their signs even from year to year.
Greg presumably was mad at halftime that UM was stealing signs, then why not have the team huddle before snaps in the 2nd half? Or run the plays in with a player? Or shield the signs?
Anyone who believes that Schiano wasn't talking about play stealing during the Michigan game, I've got a nice bridge to sell to you.
Maybe people can Gavin a break on that pick-six he threw during the game where it seemed pretty obvious that they knew the play was going to be run. Anyone asking why "would they steal Rutgers signs?" only need to look at a few of our previous games where we played them tough. Especially when we should have beaten them and then they went to the CFP.
I think the answer to this question, lies within the question itself (see in bold) but I'll ask anyway:
"Why doesn't the NCAA not just do what the NFL does and put the speaker in the QB's helmet already?"
Watch to the end. I agree with coach Rhule.
I do believe Greg's initial concern had to do with the officiating but...it almost seemed as there really was two different responses on that interview that he may have been referring to. For sure, he did think something wasn't right. If it was just the Refs- I'm sure he wouldnt not have said much about it.Schiano said he was talking about the officiating, which I believe. The defense was jumping in an attempt to draw us into false starts. It wasn't being called. Also, if Schiano suspected they were stealing signs he would have done something at half when the interview took place. The interception on the screen happened in the third quarter.
As has been pointed out many times, Universities live in fear of litigation. They cave and pay settlements where they more than likely have the upper hand, and they generally go overboard in safety precautions for students--that's not to say safety precautions are bad. But in many instances, they go above and beyond required standards.I read that is has to do with costs and invalidating helmet warranty by modifying it and college players use so many different helmets.
I read that as: blah blah blah
Break up the NCAA - no reason for Rutgers having the same constraints as UConn.
Also also the whole - coaches like being able to steal signs.
I would imagine most staffs assume they are better stealing than being stolen from.
Coaches are part of a fraternity where one coach almost never throws another coach under the bus. Sure, there are examples of coaches hating each other, but who is going to be the coach to say they blew the whistle on one of the bluest blue bloods in college football?I do believe Greg's initial concern had to do with the officiating but...it almost seemed as there really was two different responses on that interview that he may have been referring to. The Matt R interview was interesting when they asked if he suspected anything- and he didn't commit either way. If he didn't, why would he not just say he had no suspicion of wrong doing?

correct, I believe he alluded to that at the press conference?Schiano said he was talking about the officiating, which I believe. The defense was jumping in an attempt to draw us into false starts. Ummm- fair point. Nick Saban is at the end of his career, and he has nothing to worry about. Guys like Greg and Matt Rhule may not want to be known as whistle blowers.

Good article (paywalled), but here is a snippet or two:
"Five weeks ago, Jim Harbaugh stood in front of reporters and talked about setting a “gold standard” for rules compliance."
... "Though he considered Michigan’s compliance to be exemplary, he talked about implementing new policies to “make sure I don’t ever get sidelined again.” “We’ve done an incredible job,” Harbaugh said then. “We’ve gone to the nth degree to follow every rule.”
(insert Sure, Jan meme here).
He's busy raging against the Machine, aka, 86 year old Lou Holtz.OSU knows sign stealing is rampant and doesn't change them for their biggest rivalry game of the year?
I'd consider firing HC Day.
How incompetent is he?
doesn't make sense but again, you're dealing with the smartest lot by any stretch. If they knew and didn't change the signs then they get what they deserve here. Still, amazed people would defend this as stealing signs is wrong on any level and I don't want to hear what the rules say. It's wrong, unsportsmanlike, screams loser and does not present the right role model for younger kids.OSU knows sign stealing is rampant and doesn't change them for their biggest rivalry game of the year?

Deion is being disingenuous or a moron here.

Lol . So the bridge I am selling …Schiano said he was talking about the officiating, which I believe. The defense was jumping in an attempt to draw us into false starts. It wasn't being called. - Do you think HC Schiano knew about sign stealing in CFB (by Michigan and others)?
- If he did know, do you he didn't change his signs against a conference opponent?
- If you think HC Schiano did change them, wouldn't any sign stealing happen in real time during the first half? Which isn't against the rules.

A Partridge and a camera in a pear tree. Sounds like the making of a song.Hmmmm Stalions point of contact at Michigan was Partridge. There were rumors of him with cameras in the booth when he was at ole miss that’s why he was relieved of his duties.
It takes a lot to be relieved of your duties at ole miss
