Drones transferred in from Baylor (there 2021 and 2022). Three star recruit with a very solid offer list.

Wells transferred into VT a year earlier from Marshall, where he had a solid year in 2021 (3532 passing yards), but his TD/INT ratio was 16/13. Last year at tech, he had a 9/9 TD/INT ratio. His completion percentage at Marshall in 2021 was 66.3%, but that fell to 53.2% this year.

Baylor went with Blake Shapen over Drones, and he has been fairly reliable, and Baylor has 400 passing yards/game, but Baylor is near the bottom of the Big 12 in points/game. In Big 12 games, they score only 22 points/game, where top teams are at 35 points per game.

Interesting, UCF leads Big 12 in 500 passing yards/game, but they are 0-4 in conference. 🤷‍♂️

To be fair, Wells might have worked on a team with better run blocking. The bottom line is VTech desperately needed a mobile QB to help open up the run game. Drones is a good fit there.

Oh man will never forget that. Can’t recall ever seeing kickoffs go backwards or stop and drop like that game.
I vaguely recall one kick.. maybe a punt.. where we had just been going the other way and I was begging for GS to call a timeout to ensure we'd have the wind for a kick.. maybe it was while we were about to score.

Either way.. to my mind.. he did the wrong thing.. did not manage the clock to ensure we'd have the wind.. the quarter changes.. we kick into the wind and get a nasty wind-gust turnover.

Go figure. Fun game.

Yup. @Caliknight he's got this right. We gained a total of 195 yards from scrimmage while they got 258 yards. So their fans were yapping about that as if that mattered more than the final score.
I would have to dig deeper, but I think their total includes a chunk play or two where they didn't convert in the red zone or turned the ball over. It wasn't as if they were pounding it down our throats all game long.

I didn't see the game but recall that fellow Jersey Cuse DBs Bellamy (previously Notre Dame) and Gould (USC?) transferred in there as well while Camden's Duce Chestnut left Cuse for LSU where he is now cryptically listed as "inactive" on their roster but still on a scholarship.
On the broadcast last night they said Bellamy was taken to the hospital in the 2nd quarter and that his parents were notified and going to the hospital. Did not hear what happened to him.

Just looking at the box score, Korsak was an absolute beast. 6 punts - 5 inside the 20, 4 over 50 yds. Impressive.

PlayerPuntsYds.Avg.LongIn. 20TB50+ Yds.

We also won the turnover battle: we had none, but they gave up an interception and lost two fumbles.

No that was a recent game where we beat them, and they started chirping about gaining more yards than us or something like that.

The Rich Scanlon game was back in 2003 I believe, where Mr. RoidBoy went into the stands.
After tweens. He went into the stands chasing tweens that were heckling him and his gf who told them to shut up. 🤣 What was even funnier is that the kids didn't back down. They just stood there continuing to go at both of them. 🤣🤣

I get WHY they are obsessed with RU but what I dont understand right now is the TIMING of the obsession.

I mean - they are getting their asses kicked by a team in their conference (Va Tech)....thus what makes their RU-obsession bubble up in THAT MOMENT? I dont get it. its bizarre, no?

I mean when Penn State or Ohio State kicks our *** each year you dont see a bunch of people posting "Syracuse sucks" on here during the game. LOL

Not bizarre at all. What does a loser in life or situation do? Lash out at blame anyone and everything but themselves. It's pretty common.

exactly
they have an unhealthy obsession with us and where we are. It's a result of being in the ACC, a school with no real DMA tie in, declining athletics whereas we are at the adult table

I just assumed an RU fan was rubbing it in. No?

If not, really pathetic.

know. I get that they are losers and jealous of Rutgers position relative to "Cuses. I would hate RU too if I was an older Cuse fan (still living in 80s and 90s).

still doesnt explain the timing: getting their *** kicked by VT causes them to go "Rutgers sucks!!". huh?

but I guess desperate, sad losers following a rotting program in an economically-depressed rusting tundra do such things.

I mean that would be a reasonable explanation it - certainly if a Cuse fan came on our message board during an Ohio State beat-down to rub our faces they would NOT be met kindly. but absent that - strange.

Babers might have done well here. We have a recruiting territory. The Cuse job is just very, very tough.
I remember back in the day, the Dome was a selling point for skill position players. I wonder if that is still true in any way.

Cliff Notes:
A couple tween boys with big voices heckled Scanlon almost all game. At some point Scanlon's GF, who was sitting near by, told the boys to shut up. That just got them going on her too. After the game Scanlon came into the stands all puffed up in full uniform to face down the killer tweens. They essentially laughed at him and just kept going. Eventually 'Cuse staff pulled Scanlon and other players out of the stands. It was truly funny. The asshurt over being sent to school was glowing bright orange that day.

I'd give Babers an OC interview.
When he had minimal talent - he put up points.
His offense put up 25ppg the first 4 years.
Including 38ppg (#11) in year 3.

Match with a HC coach who can recruit and get him talent.

No way. Our punch you in the face offense fits our area and fan base perfectly. Let’s just keep upgrading personnel. I would MUCH rather us drive the ball on the ground for 14 plays and punch it in vs an 80 yard bomb. Could just be me.

You have to understand that for the fruit fans who actually live up in that sinkhole, SU sports are essentially really all they have. To them it isn't just their local school, it's a literal representation of who and what they are,

When they used to win...they were insufferable. And now that they suck...they're insufferable. (Notice a pattern here;-).

As many have said who have either visited, or have lived, in that armpit that is central New York, "Syracuse is a nice place to be FROM".

When we hired Greg 2.0 I believe there were a few Dino fans for the job. ?

He wouldn't have been the worse choice at the time.
He took over for a lifetime defensive coach turned HC who talked a big game but the team was terrible (sound familiar?)

Year 1: 4-8 (2-6)
Year 2: 4-8 (2-6)
Year 3: 10-3 (6-2) finished ranked #15 and beat WV in the bowl game, #11 scoring team in the country
Year 4: 5-7 (2-6)

So he was a middling P5 coach with 1 really great year.
Not the worst of resumes in 2020.

And his record since then isn't exactly much worse than us so far.
2020: 1-10 (1-9)
2021: 5-7 (2-6)
2022: 7-6 (4-4) lost to Minnesota in Pinstripe Bowl
2023: 4-4 (0-4) Will have to see how they finish (just like us).
If we lose out and they get 2 more then we'll have the same record but they would be back to back bowl games.

I still say make him OC then he doesn't have to worry about recruiting so much. Just give him good players and he seems to be able to make it work.

Why does a slow offense that doesn't prioritize scoring fit our area and fan base?

Sorry to break it to you but most say that the offense is going to open up, pass more and score more next year and as the players get better.
So enjoy it while you can because it appears HC Schiano would disagree with you according to what most here say.

oh no doubt, a great running game helps us, and a young growing qb, immeasurably.......

Defensive players of opposing teams would also much rather you beat them over the top than punching them in the face the entire game. See the last two Michigan vs Ohio State games if you don’t believe it. OSU’s D looked like they were just done in the second half of both games.

Fun fact: Michigan had LESS time of possession in both of the games.

The defense would also much rather their own offense score points for them so they don't have to pitch a shutout to win games.

Running and scoring points aren't mutually exclusive - despite what many seem to think.

Sorry to break it to me? You’re not breaking anything.

We will still be a team focused on running the ball. A few balls over the top of the defense will support the run game which will butter our bread and break the will of the defense.
