It is interesting to see now 8 full seasons into Big 10 play how some of the fan base has switched from ‘We want to play the best! Bring on the Big 10!’ To ‘schedule the lowest cupcakes possible to get the win total up!’

Sad what terrible leadership causes
Who was the terrible leadership ? July 1 we will have completed 9 years as a BIG member. Julie Herman was AD for 17 of those months and 7 years ago.

I watch plenty of football, app state certainly isn’t beating Michigan every year. That happened 1 time 15 years ago. Now does every year a random P5 get upset by what’s supposed to be an early season tune up? Sure! Heck Eastern Michigan vs us comes to mind.

I see no value in playing specifically Wagner as they are the lowest of the low in terms of football, they are the team the 1-AA squads beat up on. We slaughtered them by 59 last year and it did NOTHING to prepare us for the Big 10 gautlet as evidenced by our 1-8 conference record while also not even staying competitive until halftime vs 6 of them! I’m all for playing a lowly 1-AA team early season, but play a team that will actually make your team have to try a little bit. We could honestly show up, run nothing but draw plays and a standard 4 man rush zone defense on every single play, and still beat them by 30…. Playing a team like that does nothing to improve a squad, again as evidenced by our results last year
Barely beating SD won’t prepare us either. We can’t compete in the Big because we lack talent. Not because of who we play august 27th. And we pay them 700k vs 1.5 for a better team

More talking the HC’s. Flood, Ash, Schiano.

Hobbs brought in Pickell which gave us a basketball team, a real, competitive in this conference basketball team…. For that alone I’m eternally grateful. When I was a student it was in the midst of the Fred Hill/Mike Rice years. I’m so grateful for Pickell

You should look at the OOC's played by SEC schools.

Last year's schedule that INCLUDED Wagner btw was ranked 35th out of those 261 D1/1AA teams by Sagarin. Why didn't you mention that?

Such nonsense.
Your first sentence is the key. The current structure encourages P5 teams to schedule at least one tomato can to pad their W-L record, and encourages the tomato cans to agree to be blown out in exchange for money. I don't think that's especially good for college football. But we have to do what everybody else does or be at a disadvantage.

If I were the commish of the ACC, B12,and PAC. I would build some kind of alliance with the other 2 to try and close the gap with the Big 10 and SEC.
If not, if I were the ACC I’d have all the eastern B12 schools vetted and ready to come home.

ACC and PAC-12 just tried that with the Big Ten.
Less than a year later, Big Ten stabbed PAC 12 in the back and took USC/UCLA just to make some more money.

“Alliances” mean nothing to athletic conferences. It’s everyone out for themselves.

And how many people were calling for Pike to be replaced after his 3rd year or so?

I am not sure if GS 2.0 can turn this around. I was hopeful and he got the program out of embarrassment. But, the warts are starting to show again. He needs to win ALL the games he is supposed to win, win 1-2 that are tossups and every 2-3 years- throw down a huge upset.
And most of all- stop the 40 point beat downs by anyone. We should not be at that point anymore.

I would bet that his 05-09 teams would not be taking 40 point beatdowns even if they were playing in the B1G now. This has to stop.

But, to be bitching about the one game each year we play against a cupcake when we are usually also playing a couple of top 1-10 teams, a handful of top 25 teams, etc...is just stupid.

This argument is hard to counter…

The team under Pikiell didn't improve much in W-L record over his first three years -- but its SRS (simple rating system) did as its schedule became stronger. With Schiano, it's the reverse. I never like putting much stock in numbers, but this is not a good sign. I fervently agree with your second paragraph, especially when it comes to teams like Minnesota and Maryland.

“Alliances” mean nothing to athletic conferences. It’s everyone out for themselves.
The BIG (by adding USC and UCLA)
galvanized their spot as one of the Big Two.
Many here saw that coming.

If I was one of the little three I would want a scheduling agreement to make my league more marketable.

The PAC - Big 12 situation could be contentious but if the PACs media rights deal is descent no one is going anywhere.

The ACC’s GOR is keeping everyone home.
Why not work together to try and close the gap ( between the big 2)as much as possible

Those 3 leagues together could provide some interesting matchups.
Why not make it happen?
You could have a three league challenge like the Big Ten /Big East Big Ten/ACC Challenge.
Big 12/ACC/PAC 10 challenge.
Who wouldn’t watch that?
Who knows it might put them closer to the Big 2. Right now their just a step above the group of 5.

I would rather play them then Wagner and keep the $$$ in state.
Do you mean because the game is being played in NJ?
Because: The Wagner Seahawks football program is the intercollegiate American football team for Wagner College located in the U.S. state of New York and giving Wagner play money won't be paying a Jersey College for the game

I stated I would rather play monmouth than Wagner as nj is a state of the United States and monmoith happens to be located in the state of nj and two teams from nj playing in nj would keep the money in nj.

Greg hates those types of OOC games, he doesn't see any benefit to playing a program like Monmouth whose players would be highly motivated to play against Rutgers. He would rather schedule a non-entity such as Wagner. That is why I don't think you will ever see a game against Lehigh or Lafayette as well. Greg also hates playing Temple, so I don't expect to see them on the schedule either while he is the coach, even though our fans like having a road game so close.

That four game series was scheduled prior to his hiring. I don't expect to see Temple on the schedule again until he is gone. I do think you will see MEAC schools, those games have yet to be scheduled.

If I remember correctly I think the Temple series was originally scheduled when Flood was still here (either 2014 or 2015). I'm not sure if BC was scheduled under Flood or Ash. I think Ash dropped UCLA for the cuse series that only ended up being the 2021 game due to Covid.
