That game thread was an epic meltdown. Fans were calling for Flood to be fired after that game.Yeah including the horrid Bowl Game
I remember Flood was a big proponent of playing regional opponents so this would make sense.VT announced Jan 2015 so Flood/Hermann

I was working that night and if you recall we were still recovering from the aftermath of Sandy so I was a little busy and couldn’t watch the game. That game thread was an epic meltdown. Fans were calling for Flood to be fired after that game.
I had moved out of the hotel where I had been since Sandy into an Apt about 10 days earlier. I got home from work in time to see the OT.I was working that night and if you recall we were still recovering from the aftermath of Sandy so I was a little busy and couldn’t watch the game.
But I do seem to remember that:
- Kyle Flood buried his mom that week
- the game time weather was pretty bad?
- players didn’t play up to their ability

I think we had had enough, and escaped NJ for a short vacation. Our Belmar rental was probably still drying out and waiting for contractors, which were in very short supply considering the number of homes damaged.I had moved out of the hotel where I had been since Sandy into an Apt about 10 days earlier. Well, all the doubter can laugh all they want. Remarkable for them. I'm one who nitpicked at UConn's accomplishments under year 1 of Mora, and I will wipe the egg off my face. Jim Mora's stock just went waay up. They did beat a strong Fresno State (finished at #24), Boston College (a P5 team), and Liberty, going to a bowl game after Rocking Randy Edsall had them at 7-32 over the previous 4 years.
We are doomed? @DJ Spanky and @e5fdny
I'm not going to believe that report until more mainstream CFB media reports it. UConn has been mentioned in the past but more on the periphery behind the PAC12 schools. The impression from the recent B12 media days was UConn was down the list of priorities. If anything were to happen, I'd expect it to be PAC12 school news before UConn or at least PAC12/UConn together but UConn on its own, I'm skeptical until mainstream CFB media reports it.Well, all the doubter can laugh all they want. I actually read in one publication that UCONN is predicted for a Bowl game this season.Well, all the doubter can laugh all they want. Remarkable for them. Shocked at the turnaround.
“Yeah but __________!” (fill in the blank)They made a bowl game last season so not surprising.
When you hire a successful head coach, these turnarounds happen quickly.
At UCLA from 2012-14, Mora went9-5/6-3, 10-3/6-3, then 10-3/6-3, leading to a 6 year extension. They made a bowl game last season so not surprising.

I thought they did get one?FIFY
How many ‘free’ years does our guy get ? When does the Ash excuse expire ? And Hey Al, UConn doesn’t even have a fieldhouse. Bet they go to several bowls before 2.0 goes to one.
Mora followed Rick Neuheisal he left him some solid talent. That sure didn’t hurt.At UCLA from 2012-14, Mora went9-5/6-3, 10-3/6-3, then 10-3/6-3, leading to a 6 year extension.
In 2015, he went 8-5/5-4, then 4-8/2-7 and 5-6/3-5 before getting fired in 2017.
Was it his OC/DC that were responsible for the first 3 years, Jim himself, or something else? But that is a precipitous falloff for the last 2 years, and I would hardly say he was a "successful head coach" in college. He also had a good first year at the Atlanta Falcons and never had a winning season in the NFL after that. Maybe he's a flash in the pan?
https://big12sports.com/news/2023/3...o-new-york-city-parks-iconic-rucker-park.aspxI asked this question on an other board and got shredded.
What is the attraction?
The B12 does not need UConn Bball to be a great Bball conference and UConn does not need the B12 to be a great Bball school. The only benefit to the B12 is to get the next best available sports program. The only benefit to UConn is to find a place to park its football program. The payout would be much better, but that needs to get weighed against the increase in travel for all the non-revenue sports and going back to a conference where there is no history, no tournament at MSG and no away games against traditional rivals in the Northeast, where all your alumni live. UConn becomes an other B12 island located hundreds of miles away from the closest conference school. So what is the benefit?
How many wins would Rutgers have playing a Uconn schedule. That's the question you should be asking.FIFY

They in fact do have one...iirc, it was built on campus going back to the latter half of Randy 1.0And Hey Al, UConn doesn’t even have a fieldhouse.
Yeah, they had one built that looked kind of like a big prefab barn. Probably a bit dated now as it's more than a decade old.I thought they did get one?
That doesn’t matter and not the question we should be asking. How many wins would Rutgers have playing a Uconn schedule. That's the question you should be asking.
By your logic, you are smart because you're better at math than kindergartners...got it !How many wins would Rutgers have playing a Uconn schedule. That's the question you should be asking.
Last year, UConn lost to Michigan 59-0. Rutgers lost to Michigan 52-17. Also, Rutgers beat BC and UConn lost to BC 13-3. That’s a head-to-head comparison that tells you which program was more competitive. UConn would get demolished against our schedule - that’s a fact. We played two of the top four programs in the country, along with the Rose Bowl champion. We lost our starting QB and our starting running back. You may like Schiano or not, but to say that “the schedule doesn’t matter” isn’t really making a fair comparison between the two programs. That doesn’t matter and not the question we should be asking.
We are in the BIG and judged against the BIG competition

We shouldn’t be comparing the 2 programs. We are in the BIG and that’s who we are judged against.Last year, UConn lost to Michigan 59-0. Rutgers lost to Michigan 52-17. You’re right but that’s how it goes.We shouldn’t be comparing the 2 programs. We are in the BIG and that’s who we are judged against.
Yes.. wonders what a competent Head Coach can do for a CFB program. They made a bowl game last season so not surprising.
