OT: Vacation Advice

Hey Guys,

Need help locating two vacation spots in early to mid August.

1. A place somewhere maybe near Toronto/Montreal that is big enough to hold four couples. My brothers and I are getting together. Really nice place near water, scenic, good restaurants, casino nearby would be a bonus. More upscale than rustic.

2. A place where Moms Skillethead and I can go after #1 above for 5-7 days to celebrate her 60th and my 65th birthdays. Some place really cool. We could fly back toward the west coast for this one, or just stay in Canada somewhere. For this one, we are looking for some luxury, scenery, etc. Pampering, and a place where Moms can chill out and I can paint.

Any suggestions appreciated.

How about Vancouver for #2? Seems to fit all those boxes, right?

My house. Your wife can hang out by my pool and I'll make her dinner and you can paint my garage...I want that epoxy **** on the floor...with the speckles.

The first two suggestions are on the opposite side of the country so.....
Montreal is great and will offer someone like yourself(or at least how I perceive you) lots of attractions, architecture, museums, great food, and sites. Once you've exhausted the city and the family has left you can have a nice romantic getaway at either Mont tremblant or niagara on the lake wineries. My family owns a condo in tremblant that I might be able to set you up with. Pretty sure you still have my email......

Quebec City is also a short enough drive from Montreal for you and your wife. Has great sites and architecture.....how is your French?

Skillz - if you have the time, you can take the train across the entirety of Canada. But, do remember that Canada has fly-over country, too, just like we have here in the States.

You can check out the rail map on VIA Rail's website at the link below. I would HIGHLY recommend that you consider the Atlantic/Maritime provinces, if you're already going to be in the eastern portion of the country. Montreal and Quebec are both wonderful. You can either fly or take the rail to Nova Scotia, or rent a car and see Prince Edward Island, both of which are beautiful. And, instead of taking the rail all the way back to the western part of the country. You can fly to Saskatoon or Edmonton, and pick up the Canadian Rockies portion of the rail from there. That would also help you save some money.

As other's have said, Banff is beautiful. So is Lake Louise - which is where I would go to spend a few days just enjoying the scenery (just Google: Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise). You can access both from Jasper (Alberta). You really cannot go wrong in the Canadian Rockies. It's all beautiful.

Whatever you decide, make sure you take pictures and have a great time!

Head straight to Tofino British Columbia if you want to stay in Canada. Banff is great, but to truly enjoy it you should probably ski.

Tofino is where evergreens meet the ocean. Not sure what you are painting (you can use small brushes to paint Hud's flooe, though it may take longer), but the landscapes there are magnificent. The Wick Inn is right where you want to be there..

If flying back west .... Tu Tu Tun lodge on the Rogue River in Oregon is awesome. I have seen on some top 10 lists of inns in the US.

LMAO - I love how these threads become so ridiculous. OP asks for ideas in the Montreal/Toronto area and he gets suggestions for British Columbia and the Canadian Rockies. It''s much like the threads asking, "Should I buy an Altima or a Legacy?" and the responses suggesting everything from a Mini Cooper to a Aston Martin.

1. My dads from Canada so I am very familiar with both of those. Based on what you are looking for I would pick Quebec City.

2. Vancouver. In my humble opinion the most beautiful city in the world.

You must have stopped reading after point 1 to quickly make this post. Here is his second point:

Perhaps you aren't aware. B.C is both in Canada and on the west coast.



Skillet, another option is Palm Springs. It is exceptional there in the spring. Joshua Tree is a really good spot.

Joshua Tree requires peyote. We've yet to learn how Moms Skillethead would feel about that.

it just so happens that VKJ vacations during large parts of the summer. I propose that he allow Skillet to use his manse as a travel base and that I be allowed to do the same with the Skillet Ranch in New Zed. Everybody wins.

If going to Joshua Tree invite Eric Roberts to go along. You can use his Winnebago.
