I was thinking about taking the wife to Nick's, but their menu looks too fancy-pants for me.

I'm now thinking Table 100. Where would you go?

Walker's patio if the weather is nice.

Parlor Market is great if you're not named catvet. Nick's is always fantastic. Otherwise Shapley's, Ely's for the 'burbs.

All named are good choices. I like Ruth Chris as well(cue the chain eye rolling). Went to Ely's recently and it was very good as usual.

You should try Sophia's at the Fairview Bed and Breakfast. Lot's of high

rollers in there, in fact I rubbed shoulders with a bunch of Japanese Business
men and the Governor last night*

Nice atmosphere and the food's not bad.

Mint Restaurant in the Renaissance shopping center is good. Pretty eclectic menu - the Chicken and Waffles are tasty.

There's a French restaurant called Roux (I believe) off Highland Colony behind the shopping center where Newk's is located. It's in a stand-alone building. I've been twice for lunch and it was excellent both times.

If you like Japanese Nagoya is always a good choice.

For Chinese, Mr. Chen's beside Cowboy Maloney's is both cheap and tasty. It's inside / part of a large Asian grocery. They also have a lot of intestine dishes, if that's your thing.

ETA: Mint, Roux, and Nagoya are all in Madison, though Nagoya has a County-Line Rd. location as well.

I took my wife to Local 463 in Madison(it's the same owners as Walker's I believe) and I thought it was great.

And if she wants to really live the lifestyle, get her the bone-in ribeye at Shapley's............... Guys.

He asks for fine dining, and you suggest Mr. Chen's.

Fantastic chinese food, but c'mon. And it's Anjou, not Roux.

Roux is Tom Ramsey's restaurant concept, expected to open downtown later this year.

Mint is absolute, over priced, ****.

I've done Mint for lunch about 5-6 times. Good every time. Don't know on dinner. For a good dinner that doesn't break the bank me and the misses like Julep. It's not fine dining but we like it. Good drinks and plenty of items priced in the low teens and good apps

For the best bone in ribeye you'll ever eat, make the drive to Philadelphia and go to Phillip M's. Words can't do justice to that little slice of Heaven.

There's not really a "fine dining" place in Jackson (as I equate it with service + food). There is some seriously good food at a lot of places, though. Walkers being my favorite.

I still like to mention Amerigo. Little lighter on the wallet than Walkers, still a good atmosphere, and a wine list that won't melt your credit card.

While these may not be quite "fine dining," The Mayflower and Bill's Greek Tavern are ALWAYS consistent. I suggest to you new Jackson-area 6Packers to give these places a taste.

I will never know how good Mint is because I refuse to go there due to their outrageously stupid 17n commercial. "beep eggs beep eggs and...beep eggs and something or another" absolutely stupid. Maybe the TSUN morons get that commercial, but I sure as hell don't.

I've only been doing the "fine dining" thing about a year, and I agree about the service being as important as the food. Capitol Grille (Nashville) and Phillip M's are excellent examples.

FYI... Fine Dining means a fancy menu..

My List, in no particular order

Parlor Market
Walker's Drive Inn
Sophia's
Nicks
Shapley's
Ely's
Table 100
Sakura Bana

Sounds like you would like the Mayflower and Bill's Greek(you can bring your own bottle to both)

A step down would be Local 463, Olga's, Char, Julep, Ruth's, Mint, or Bravo

http://eatjackson.com/blog/category/recommendations/fine-dining/

And bringing your own bottle is a good thing. I need to try Ely's...a bulldog owner.

And I'm not saying that the restaurants in Jackson have bad service. It's just a completely different level. As for food, I've had a soft shell dish at Walker's that would have starred on the menu of any restaurant.

I had the Table 100 burger w/fried egg Saturday night. It was real good.

There are lots of good options with quite a wide variety, but you are correct, there no truly upscale experience. But I don't think that is what the original poster was really looking for anyway since he mentioned Nick's, which a good choice by the way.

The restaurants are certainly not fancy, but ordering the seafood at somewhere like Crechele's, the Mayflower, or Bill's Greek Tavern is a good eat and gives you the old school experience.

You can't go wrong with Walker's Drive-In. I have been several times for lunch and dinner. My all time favorite will always be The Mayflower downtown though. If you are over in the Flowood area John Cerami's place is great if you like Italian. The atmosphere is awesome.

You need to try Parlor Market. It's fairly new, but I think it would meet your standards.

We love Cerami's and the atmosphere cracks me up, but I like it. The "salad wagon" that was his old hotdog stand...awesome.

No, worst commercial ever was Dennery's in the late 90's. It was a low budget commercial, a shot of two people holding hands "I can't believe he took me to Dennery's!" It was the forerunner of "He went to Jared!"

I'm with you on this. Always a good time and good people-watching spot. Tacky atmosphere, but it works. That salad wagon is a highlight for me. Always have a good time there.

Thanks for all the great suggestions. And for whatever confusion with "fine dining," I just mean you, the lady, and about $100 or more.

I can't believe no mention of Tico's or Char. Best steak I ever had was the large fillet at Tico's...that thing melted in my mouth. It's a little inconsistent though.

Well, some of the restaurants in Jackson with the best food could definitely have better service imo..

Heading to NOLA this weekend, I have reservations at Le Petite Grocery, Herbsaint, and Cochon..

You will like Ely's... Baked Kibbeh, Asiago Mac & Cheese, and the Bone in Filet..

I love the Mayflower and Bill's Greek, where you can bring your own bottle or two of wine and whiskey..
My wife doesn't seem to like their atmosphere's enough to go all the time though..

Well said. What kind of absolute 17ing loser would think that commercial was a good idea? It has definitely cost them business from me.

I second this. Chens is awesome if you want to pretend you're in China. Plenty of fish eyeballs and hanging ducks to look at. Also, Mint sucks. It's hard for me to think of a bigger ripoff than Mint in the entire Jackson area.

walker's is the best resturant in jackson hands down, imo. nick's since it moved is not so much. the others mentioned are all good (except mint, which as noted sucks) but walker's absolutely can not be beat. parlor mkt is good but its menu is quirky. some folks like that some not so much.
