So much for that hot start.

Looks like a middle of the pack/mediocre squad afterall.

Now let's look at the facts:

- we're NOT an offensive-minded team. Just about every game this year has been tight. We do have, however, a very good D and one of the best keepers in the nation. Anyway, teams as such, YES, will lose TIGHT games, 1-0, 2-1, now-and-then. I don't think anyone had this group going undefeated.

- missing 2 starters, IIRC, for this trip

- it was a road trip

- Illinois was 6-2-1 headed into the weekend and swept at home

- NW was 8-1-2 coming into yesterday's game, which they won in OT, and swept at home

....so can we relax just a tad? I'm pretty sure this team is still fairly young and, without downplaying where they can go with a GREAT D and a GREAT Keeper, this season, I'm pretty sure next year is the one most have been looking towards.

When are those 2 injured players supposed to return to the team?

I don't want to waste a Friday night or Sunday afternoon attending a game if they don't have their full team.

I never understand football only people. I played football at Cornell but I also followed EVERY sport including the year we won the NCAA championship in womans polo.(and 3 lacrosse national championships, a wrestling team that to this day is always top 5-10...not to mention 8 frozen fours and 3 hockey national championships).....

The womens soccer team has represent RU in the B10 better than any other sport.

Not sure probably know more later this week. We've got MSU Friday and Michigan Sunday. Win these 2, get the 6 points, and get back on track. Minny is sitting in first BUT they've played 3 of the worst teams in the conference (Purdue, Indiana, OSU) on top of beating PSU.

I follow EVERYTHING RU and take pride in their accomplishments and pain in their failures...to me its about state pride expressed through athletics or academics.

I follow all non-revenue teams closely and have taken great pride in WSocc in light of the generally mediocre at performance of our other non-rev's other than Wrestling. Very disappointing losses to non-ranked teams, esp the Northwestern loss after such a great start. Missing a couple of offensive players on a team that relies more on D and that hurt us. Still hopeful they can turn it back around. But compared to some of our other non-revs, WSocc is still a nice beacon of hope.

I believe that volleyball quite literally is the worst team of any P5 program in any sport. Not only last year did they not win a single match in the B1G, they did not win a single set in B1G play except against MD, another poor team. And this year in addition to starting off the B1G season by getting crushed in each match, they had already been beaten 3-0 by by Harvard and Princeton an 3-1 by Yale and Albany - and I'm not even talking about the thrashings we also received by such non-national powers as Sacramento State and Santa Clara (at least we have the excuse that they're in volleyball-talent-rich CA). It's awful to be so lacking in funds that we have to have such poor teams despite being in the B1G.

- not sure why losing to a team that was 8-1-2 is so "disappointing" to you? Yeah, nobody wants to lose, but they weren't 4-5-2 they are actually a good team.

- women's volleyball has ZERO to do with this thread, Cured, way to spread your misery in a thread that didn't warrant it....geeze

Which is exactly why teams such as volleyball should be dropped. We need less teams not more. I'm sure it's not a huge amount of money but their whole operating budget could be transferred over to a sport with a fighting chance. How much space do they require in the new facility and what's the added expense of that? The fact we have more varsity sports than the University of Texas is ludicrous.

Are you serious with this stuff? How in the world is it "wasting a Friday night or Sunday afternoon" because two starters are out? With two starters out, we still came down to the wire with 2 of the other good teams in the B1G. If you have any interest in Rutgers athletics or Rutgers soccer and are close enough to go whenever, just go to the game and enjoy a day/night of fresh air. It's not like you're paying $100/ticket with parking to go see them. Enjoy watching some good soccer.

Team is not bad, but it does sorely lack a midfield that can control possession. Defense is generally solid (saw a few mental mistakes that I drill into my 12 year olds not to make such as lunge as an opponent in the box when they have the ball) and Offense is average (can create mismatches, but the hockey dump and run on to it strategy used is weak). Big believer that midfielders are the difference maker, and right now the team looks under average there. However, it could be that the 2 folks that are out are the difference makers in the midfield.

Versus a jailhouse football team that deals in "moral victories."

I will never understand soccer haters.
I love soccer. I played on the club team. I go to 1 men's and women's game a season. I still play in an over 30 men's league. I'm just making fun of the guy that thinks "playing well" is the aim and not winning. You gotta put the ball in the back of the net. While I appreciate nice passing I come to the games to see our team score more goals than the other team.

They dropped from 11 to 17.

They still have a great chance to make the post season.

They would be hard-pressed to miss it at this rate and we'll play for the B1G regular and post-season titles. Also a home game or two are still in play. Remember we did make it last year - as well 2013 - and hosted LaSalle at home.

You sound like you don't go often. It's the same cost whether the team wins or loses. If the cost is a big issue, try your local high school or Div-III team. You'll get the same fresh air, the same sense of competition, and you'll save your money. And you won't be missed..

This can't be said enough. Rutgers is fielding teams that have shoestring budgets and no chance of being competitive because of it. Literally no chance.

Field the number of teams that can be fully funded with out of state scholarship money, proper support and facilities, and not one more. This isn't rec league where fielding teams is the goal.

We are fighting with our hands behind our back in virtually every sport, and we get the results we do because of it.

If your criteria is seeing the full team, I'd imagine pretty much every team in every sport on any given day is eliminated from the mix. How many teams are ever at 100%

Cali,
To the best of your knowledge, where is Rutgers on providing funding for lacrosse as compared to other schools--say on a scale of one to ten (ten being the best) ?

You're right, and I'm with you all the way on the need for proper support, but why would you post this here? This team is the exact opposite example: they're MAKING it work!

You might want to follow even more closely. The volleyball team won the first set at home against the Big Ten champion's (Wisconsin) last year. That said, they are definitely not a good team.

I should try to make one of the game this weekend. I root for any Rutgers team particularly those would some record of success.

I'm trying to latch onto something successful out of Rutgers.
I thought this team may be it, but from what I saw on tv vs Illinois, just an average squad.

I hope they have a successful weekend though in the rains.

Stay home don't go. In fact don't go to another game - the whole roster may be a bit banged up and you wouldn't want to see players playing a little hurt. Freakin tool. This post exemplifies how poor of a fan base we have across all sports. I really don't think the ladies will miss you in the stands.

After a 4-point weekend, beating MSU and tying Michigan, the girls pick up another 3 points topping IU at home tonight 2-0 and moving to 10-2-1 (3-2-1) on the season. IU, coming in, had been playing stellar D in conference play, arguably as good as RU, so a decisive win as such, putting 7 shots on goal to just 4 for IU, is a pleasant surprise. Hopefully that was the boost the O needs for the rest of the season (D and goalie have been nothing short of phenomenal, with Murphy picking up her 10th shutout W of the season! IF the O gets on a roll now (with an already top-notch D and goalie). Purdue, on the road, is up next. The Boilermakers are 2-4 in the B1G and 7-6 overall. 3 more points, on the road, would be huge!

IIRC we've moved from 10th to 6th, in conference play, with these last 7 points.
