I hear great things about all of them, but don't own any. I recently got a Walther PPQ & like it a lot. The trigger release is different (it's on the trigger guard), but once I got used to it I think I like it better. Anyhoo, it's a top-notch firearm, and worth taking a look at if you want a 9mm.

Recently bought a Ruger P95 9mm. I am a lefty and really liked the clip release being on both sides. It shoots well and is usually a decent price. I got on Black Friday at Cabela's along with 40 other people. I was surprised they sold all of them.

I would suggest buying a pistol safe, trigger guard, and any other safety features because I think they will be in short supply if any changes are made legislatively. The prices will be up if it happens. Also, they are a good idea anyway.

My Christmas present..

is a Glock 23 Gen 4...moved up to the 40 cal. Sweet weapon not as clunky as my 45 and I still love my 45! I'm home for 4 weeks for the holidays (I working in the Mideast, ugh!) so I'll have to enjoy my toys while I'm home. I'm catching up with the board...I have no access to "social" internet, sux!

Bought a Ruger LC9 last week for concealed carry purposes. No complaints from it thus far. But I really think you will be fine with any of those 3. My suggestion would be to ask around and see if any of your friends have any of those three that they will let you borrow to take to the range.

Any reason you picked glock 23 over 19 gen 4?

The .40S&W ammo is more expensive and has about the same stopping power as a 9mm

I have a buddy that has the Springfield in 40

He seems to like it. I've shot it.
It shoots ok...won't break the bank buying it.

Don't know about the other two.

Spend $500 plus some tax and look at the S&W M&P or a glock 17 or 19, depending on what size gun you want. From the looks of what you want it for, the 17 may be best. I owned a Springfield XD and would never ever own another. Wouldn't feed reliably and had alot of muzzle flip. Check out budsgunshop.com, they have alot of good condition used guns. But, you couldn't have picked a worse time to buy a gun.

My Christmas Present...

Robbie,

A close friend recommended the 23 and said to grip both the Gen 3 and the Gen 4 and see which one felt better...the Gen 4 fits my hand perfectly without changing out the backstrap. Also, I travel all over the world and it is one of the preferred weapons for police the world over. It was $50 more than the 9mm.

no one should own a gun. they are far too dangerous. Any one who owns a gun should turn them in immediately. i for one will b returning all of my guns tomorrow. i am going into downtown jackson tomorrow to give them away on farish street. figure i would save the government a step. u should all do the same.

experience with all 3. the storm is nice but completely different than the other two being that it's a single/double and the other are striker fired. all 3 have lifetime waranties against defects so you can't go wrong with any in that facet. i'd go with the xd. i have a xd tactical in 357sig with a 40 barrel and love it. fantastic shooting guns. the other two are very nice though, have friends who own them. i like the beretta better than the sr9 though. i don't know your price range but i'd spend a little extra and get a sig 226 or 229.

I've bought several firearms from Bud's, they've always done a good job. If you are looking for a Christmas present, it's going to be tough getting it shipped in time - sounds like they are swamped.

Remember one thing "There are no inexpensive guns, only cheap guns." I purchased a cheap gun, that I thought was inexpensive, and have problem after problem. It was recommended by the American Rifleman magazine published by the NRA and they gave it rave reviews. In fact, I had to force about 200 rounds through it in a break in period to make it feed properly. That worked but then it wouldn't extract the fired brass. I returned it to the manufacturer in late October and haven't gotten it back yet. And no, they won't respond to my emails or letters. Don't get hung up on initial cost. Spend an extra hundred or so to get a name brand that you are comfortable with. Continue to seek out the experiences of people who have shot/owned one.

Buy a Bushmaster AR. Wait for gun ban to go in effect. Sell AR for $2000. Buy Kimber pistol and still have money left over.

Cop friend says Beretta 9mm built in Italy > Beretta built in USA...

Some of the American-made gun's inner-workings are plastic vs metal in the Italian produced gun.

FWIW, he carries (Police Dept. department issued) the American-made Beretta 9mm.

Just an FYI, if you are looking to get an AR, scare buying is in full swing. Stopped by on the way home to pick up a couple of 30 rd magazines and they were all gone. Rifles were pretty much gone also. Came home and started looking online and most high capacity mags are now back ordered.

JOIN THE NRA

sorry for shouting, but if you like your guns, now is the time to strengthen the NRA's numbers as much as possible.

Every single person in here that owns a gun for protection and/or hunting needs to join the NRA.

Also consider joining the GOA (Gun Owners of America). Sure their website sucks, but they make up for it by being a bit more vocal about protecting second amendment rights. They're less about being a gun enthusiast organization like the NRA and much more a political org. Join them and maybe they can use the money to hire a better web developer.

The NRA is too tied up in the "political game" for me. They compromise on too much on little things to make it look like they are protecting our rights to bear arms. They are the reason every "new" gun must be registered and FBI check done to see if I can buy one, yet I can buy one from Joe Schmoe on the street today and no one is the wiser. I don't disagree with the registration of weapons, per se, but it serves no real effectiveness on controlling who buys firearms. It simply gives the govt knowledge of who legitimately owns weapons so they can "legitimately" take it away from the law abiding citizen if a weapons ban occurs.
