At halftime I think they should have pressed and played more up tempo. Any time Seton Hall got momentum it was from playing aggressive and dictating tempo. It became clear Seton Hall was at a disadvantage in the half court, I wish they tried pressing earlier.

Gutsy performance by the team, but Shah and company could not overcome the superior talent of St John’s.
Offensive anemia out of halftime again...Merrimack was same way Tuesday vs Siena claw back to make it reasonable at the horn then such a titled handicap to overcome with 12 min left.

It helped St. John’s that they had 6 people on the court - 5 players and so called ref Matt Potter.

Of course Pitino in the post game “credits”
SHU by saying they play like they haven’t eaten in a week and play hard defense and foul.

Pitino should just say what it is: he’s got superior talent with a double sized payroll.

I don’t hate that. I wish we had the funds to buy the players he has.

But it ain’t his coaching. With the talent they had last year and the talent they have this year, they better make the second weekend this year at minimum.

Let’s face it, as Decourcy said SJ did not do well versus top competition. They did well versus everyone else. Second weekend or bust. But for good of the league I’ll be rooting for them.

How come Seton Hall fans don’t acknowledge when they beat say Xavier or Marquette that Seton Hall is spending more than them?
You know the reason. In fact, $$$ doesn't come up for any other program in America, except for one.

Likewise, no one brings up they were picked 5th preseason in the league last year and went 18-2 and tied the conference record for wins. Again, we know why.

Personally, I see them getting knocked out in the Round of 32 with the wrong matchup, and so that will make everyone excited and lead to all kinds of b*t **** crazy, hypocricy filled rants.

I don't understand why it devolves to this and we can't just evaluate the game like was the case last night.

When you aren't good for 20+ years, and then have back to back seasons where you set a conference record for wins, win back to back regular season titles, win the Big East tourney for the first time in forever, have a chance to repeat, sellout MSG, and now get covered like a professional sports team by the NY media, it isn't "second weekend or bust". I'm sure they will be disappointed if that doesn't happen, but a little perspective of what's been accomplished there in a short period of time. Which should be no surprise given who is at the helm, because it is what he's done for 40 years at every type of school, in every type of recruiting environment. That's the objective reality some people here just don't want to come to grips with. The reality is the Big East needs Uconn, Nova and SJU to win some games this year, and so theoretically all should be rooting for that outcome. Instead of hoping for an early upset so they can run to a message board and post some insane rant.

Na only proof we need is UCONN.

end of day Nova, UCONn, and Creighton built great seasons without the money st johns ridicule benefitted from.

I understand they have some solid history in the 80s and 90s, and always respect their program, but for me it really cheap feeling seeing a team that was mid at best when the playing field was even and just leapfrog simply because they have an advantage of money.

I really don’t believe even with Pitino they are even ranked if the playing field was eve

They could get recruits but us, Creighton, and Providence would get similar players and then have this BS talent advantage.

@CTF591011 You’re out of your mind if you think they wouldn’t be ranked in a level playing field. Pitino is a HOF coach. C’mon dude

Best college coach in the post wooden era. Not sure how long his Kentucky run would have been without nba call up but he would have been elsewhere and won...hell he took cusa Louisville to a final four

If Seton Hall had their resources no one would be apologizing, we all know that.

I despise the loser mentality and excuses. Seton Hall loses that game tonight more often than not but St. Johns is not some juggernaut unable to be beaten. SHU was up on them in the same building by 15 earlier this year.

Seton Hall needs to get better at its player acquisition and scouting because no matter how much $$ they raise, they’ll always be at a deficit.

its necessary to keep up and stay respectable with the NIL but to me the biggest ROI would come from investing in more fundraising positions and a FO. I don’t even mean 15 people. Start with a GM or if that ruffles Sha’s feathers (ridiculous if so because they would report to him) just give out nice personnel titles.

Can we not pay 1-2 people a respectable salary to identify players here and overseas to go after in the portal? If Sha wants complete control why can’t he pick these people?

I’m all about solutions. NIL will never be a strength here. Brainstorm and find your strength.

That St. John’s frontline is awesome. Such a matchup nightmare. All the more impressive what Najai was able to do.

SJU guards suck, though. Imagine Ian Jackson telling Pitino with a straight face that he’s thinking of going pro. Lol

I really like Darling. Not the most talented guy, but he gets everything through hard work. He could play for me any day.

Seton Hall had what maybe 4 players that would ever see minutes if they were on St John’s.
Maybe. I made the comment that not one of our starters would start for them.

Not sure how many in the top 8 of their rotation.
Let’s face it…we are far out talented…I give great credit to the coaching staff and the players to dig deep and gut out what was a successful season.
We bloodied the top teams in this conference now than anyone.
We just do not have the talent to pull off the victories.
That’s gotta be the step we take next year…but that is on the school.
Put up…or…

I like how he plays - with that said I’d isolate & attack him all day defensively. I probably would have used less PnR with bigs and just let Clark go 1 on 1 more often, he’s way quicker than Darling.

Doing pretty well for a high major team as their starting PG.
He’s started like 10 games this year. Pitino finally landed on him because the other idiots can’t stop stealing shots from the actual good players on the team. He’s smart enough to stay out of the way. Which I guess is good.

Amazing how we throw stones at other players on better teams, but never see any faults in our own, of which there are many.

Their 4 guards are wildy inconsistent, it seems, which is probably why they are a top 15-20 team and not better than that. I don’t think any of them had a clue about playing defense before they got to Pitino, and to his credit he’s gotten them to do that, which is why SJU improved so much defensively.

That’s why I would have pressed more. Pressing quite literally keeps the ball out of their bigs’ hands if even for a few more seconds per possession. I think Clark could have caused problems for Darling bringing it up.

Full court or 3/4 press system really fits Shaheen. Its like his personality reflected on the court when I watch….I like it! Lol
