This is the Big East. Plus, he’s not a true center. Played admirably throughout the season but Sha should have started Hines. I’m not sure what he was thinking there.

After the game at Butler, Sha stated Hines conditioning was why he wasn’t seeing more mins.

Three out of the next six games, Hines played 24, 29, and 31 mins. It was never conditioning. Never.

Stop it with the he’s not a true center. You think his game profiles as a PF? Come on.

Your last point I agree with completely. Even in tough games Hines gives you 10 and 5.

He played 30 mins tonight and 30 mins vs UConn. He was in great shape. The coach did not do the right thing. He played the wrong player all season. Payne was -17 today. You are clueless
It isn’t clueless at all. Hines lack of conditioning has been well documented on here and elsewhere.

Hines is also just a freshman. He’s priority no. 1 next season.

But even if Hines played 36 minutes we would not have won today.

If he played 36 mins all year we win 5-6 more games this season. Payne -17 today so if he never played would’ve been a coin flip.

He stole valuable minutes from Hines from the beginning which would have helped Hines development ten fold for the post season.

Payne was solid overall this year. I totally disagree with the notion that Payne wasn't a productive player. He is limited offensively but he can certainly hold his own on the glass and defensively, which I didn't think would be the case. Credit to the staff on that one, because he's way better than I thought.

He's been on campus since [at least} late August, and he's not in shape by Jan. or Feb.? Really?
I don't know why I'm bothering. Hallstorm said it well in a post earlier in this thread. If you can't get that, I don't know what to tell you or the other guy who calls everyone else clueless. The summer is meant for conditioning on campus. When he got here, he was behind. He got gassed early with the tempo that Sha plays defense. Yes, he is in better shape now, but needs a good offseason of working out with the trainers and a nutritionist. OUT

Payne was never the same after his ankle sprain against Creighton. I suspect that injury was worse than Shaheen let on. Even still, Steph was way better than I expected this year and gave us some monster games.

All due respect, the Hines “lack of conditioning” thing is some of the dumbest sh*t Shaheen has peddled.

I think the issue was that he didn’t adjust to Sha’s coaching style as the season wore on. Same with Simpkins. They both looked nervous out there. Some guys just don’t respond well to negative reinforcement.

It seems as if Payne never regained his aggressiveness after he was injured. Perhaps it was nagging but he was not as strong and explosive as he was earlier. Before his decline, it made sense to start him.
