you hire Petrino back when the chance existed because he was way below his market value. had he not had his Arky episode his salary to hire him away would have been far higher than Barney would ever spend. it would have been a risk but one worth it as there would be no other way to bring in a coach of that talent level. as it stands now, he's kept his nose clean since his episode and if he continues to do so will be in position in another season to again command a far higher salary than Barney will ever spend for a FB coach. But he'd rather risk it on the unproven anyway. Barney's a lousy poker player.

sounds directly related to character and integrity to me. there are a great number of less than saintworthy coaches who are quite successful. we're either going to have to pay the market rate for saintworthy and capable coaches, hold our nose a bit with the hire, or just stay very bad in this conference. we seem to be doing the latter.
