my bad, that post wasn't directed at you. i just found a fb related post and responded to it. sorry dude.
No need to apologize. Your take was good
if you watch the film with van ... both the offense and defense was schemed perfectly. had UK kicked the FG on the first possession or in OT then it was a totally different game.
I do understand going for it on 4th and G only in this sense: there was no way in he11 that Texas was going to score a TD, the best they were going to do would be a FG. so if UK got the TD, then we win.
I don't have a problem with going for it.
What I have a problem with (and don't take this personally, cause it's got nothing to do with anyone posting anything here) is the absolutely STUPID AND the completely ****ing FRUSTRATING, REPETITIVE IGNORANCE OF NOT ****ING CONTINUiNG to do things that PUT you IN POSITIONS and GIVE YOU OPPORTUNITIES to win these ****ING GAMES.
We didn't drive down the field by running the ball up the middle into a packed-in D in this game, just like we didn't have the chance to beat UGA (WHAT WAS IT?) 2 years ago by just throwing the ball on 3 straight downs, or would have beaten USC that year (or last?) .. We got into that position against Texas by balance and working the outside, stretching them sideline to sideline, and running the ball against UGA.
THEN WE ABANDONED THE GAMEPLAN AND WHAT THEIR D was GIVING us. OUR OC (or someone else) WENT FULL RETREAD AND STUCK THEIR OWN HEAD UP THEIR ***!
HOW MANY games have we abandoned what was working? How many series have we gone to prevent D on "X and LONG" and given up big plays and first downs? How many "X and SHORTs" have we abandoned what was working to try to go for just the sticks?
It's OK to pick up 8 yards on 3rd and 1. It's OK to throw over the top or hit a comeback route on 4th and 1. Why limit your options to plays that are only meant to pick up just what you need, when you've been gaining 3.5 yards per play? It's psychotic to aim for just 1 yard on every "X" and 1. YOU'RE STOPPING YOURSELF SHORT. YOUR LIMITING YOURSELF when the opponent hasn't been. It's the thinking OF A CHILD.
Run your offense. Run your defense. Score until they stop you. Stop making it easy on your opponent. Quit helping them. It reeks of fear and immaturity. It screams of a lack of discipline.
It tells your opponent that YOU don't believe in YOU. It tells them you don't believe you belong in the fight, and that you don't believe your can win.
So SICK of this ****
