So you were graced with the naive wisdom of your ten year old inner child. Hmpf
Yes because I reach my own conclusions instead of following a cult-like mentality I'm the one that has the "naive wisdom" of a ten year old. Makes perfect sense.

Sign Urban Meyer to a short-term contract and have Brian Hartline in line to succeed him.
Both are OSU guys - especially Hartline. He bleeds Scarlett & Gray and any school that hires him risks Hartline leaving if OSU ever offered him the OSU HC position. I'd go after Cignetti or Rhule. We need someone that will be here for the long haul

Cignetti is 64 yrs old. He isn’t here for the long haul. If Rhule didn’t play at PSU he wouldn’t even be in the conversation.

I'm surprised Dan Mullen's name hasn't come up more in this conversation. He would be right at the top of my list. I know the main criticism has always been his reluctance to recruit during the season, but the landscape has changed significantly since his time at Florida.

No thanks on Mullen

If he didn’t work at Temple w Kraft he wouldn’t be in the conversation more accurate

What's interesting about this search is that if the new coach is not coaching right now, he could be hired right now. I don't this is likely at all, but Urban rumors are out there.

I wonder how many other coaches will get a new contract with pay bump during this process.

I went with Stein. I dont think Cignetti, Kiffin, and Hartline are realistic. I dont think Diaz would want the high pressure job. The rest dont move the needle for me or I dont know much about them.

To me it still comes down to for Kraft that Rhule is the safe option here. Its almost lateral move from Franklin. Of course Kraft will make the due diligent calls to Urban and Saban. They are not coaching again. So the big swing will be someone else outside of Rhule. Definetly a riskier pick but potentially with a huge upside. It's going to very interesting going forward. Will be plenty of rumors, also interests me how soon they announce the pick in season or after the season for recruits and portal. For me I have moved past the shock of Kraft actually getting rid of Franklin and now I am kinda interested and excited to see who the next HC of PSU will be...

Terry Smith. He is of high character and a great representative of the University. Everyone likes him, including recruits. Hopefully, he is also a great leader and a great head coach. He played for PSU, his father and children went to PSU, and he has lived in State College for 11 years. Loyalty and love for the program is unquestionable. He is a relative unknown but hopefully the answer is already on the sideline.

He has been dealt a tough hand given the team's performance to date and Allar's season ending injury. However, if Gronk is able to perform and Smith is able to rally the team, there will be a lot of support for his hiring, including support from the players. Also, I believe he could salvage the recruits if he performs well. Frankly, this is our best case scenario.

Of course, if the team continues its tailspin, his job is temporary and any coach coming in will be in rebuilding mode.
All those things are true but the idea of him being truly considered is a complete charade even if he rights the ship. Kraft had to say the right things at the presser.

I am a 65 yo Nebraska fan grown up in Lincoln. This is eerily familiar to us firing Solich way back when we began our plunge.

I am ambivalent about Rhule leaving or staying, but us Huskers wished for better too, when things were really going well.

In full disclosure, I voted Rhule as your next coach.
please NO!

That is no longer a realistic option, unless Penn State decides to become Northwestern or Vanderbilt. The pressure these coaches are under to win is enormous, possibly more than they feel in the NFL. The recruiting is nonstop, going after HS kids and then keeping your kids from going into the portal or finding gems that have gone into the portal. The burnout in these coaching jobs is going to get worse. If these coaches are making upwards of $10 million a year, in a mere 8 years they're going to haul down close to $100 million. They can work 8 years and then retire, do sports shows and such. The days of coaches staying at a school forever (e.g. - Paterno, Ferentz, Bowden) are over.

If he does somehow right the ship (beats everyone but OSU) he deserves serious consideration.
