This is a terrible day.

Football season over after the sixth game.

And the Penguins got an absolute bomb dropped on them at home, falling to the Rangers, 6-1.

Hey, can ONE of my teams not be embarrassing? I'm not even saying "win" at this point. Just don't sit on your nuts.

SIAP.... watching guys jump up and pound their chest, make (they hope) photo ready gremaces after simply making a G.D. tackle, is really turning me against supporting this team through this tough time. It bothers me more than the careless penalties. After the past 5 games prior to this one, there was no cause to expect celebrity status as a player, yet, there it was once again. Hard to watch!!!
The penalties and showboating are symptoms of the disease known as Franklin. No discipline or accountability.

I

I believe CJF is a really nice guy and truly cares about his players; perhaps too much to come down hard when the effort/execution is lacking. I think he has taken the PSU football program as far as he can. For this season,, the administration gave everything he asked for and the result has been underwhelming and disappointing. The results on the field speak for themselves and demonstrate a leaderless, undisciplined team. Him, his staff, and players have to take an indepth look at themselves. Hard decisions face Pat Kraft and the administration.
One concern I have is some psycho fan(s) harassing CJF and his family. I have no doubt there will be discussions tonight and in the days ahead in the Franklin household and Pat Kraft will have a meeting(s) to discuss a pathway.
I in no way loathe CJF but he is paid an incredible salary and great success is the expectation..
He does care about the players but a HC needs to be the boss, a bad a$$ boss. I've always believed that as the top dog you always have to have about ten minutes of "pure a$$hole" in reserve for those special moments

It's all over the game at every level. I watched HS kids do a salute and a Tiktok dance after scoring last night. Gotta have your 'look at me' moment instead of celebrating with your teammates who probably had more to do with you scoring than you did.

It goes from the top down. Whatever the NFL permits will eventually be everywhere.

One that gets me is when a guy scores or makes a good play and he just starts running away from his teammates and they all run after him. I'd like one time to see the teammates not follow him and have him just be running around the field by himself.

Football is the ultimate team game and ain't no one doing good stuff without some help from their teammates.

It has been that way with this program for years. Has always driven me crazy.

What angers me about the player celebrations is not showing emotion-- I'm generally fine with that, and this was one area where Paterno was far too strict, IMO.

But when you make a stop on 2nd down, and start celebrating WHILE YOU ARE LOSING THE GAME, that's just ridiculous. It's not only classless, it makes you look like a friggin' idiot.

It’s our society of today. It’s all a selfish mentality. No integrity, no real tuffness nor heart. It’s all instant gratification, no hard work, no grind. Me me me…a different breed This generation.

And Franklin can’t coach, we knew this Years ago. And now I hope you all realize it’s not all jimmies and the joes.

Imagine being a PSU - Phillies - Eagles - Flyers fan. Great week! (Where is that sarcasm emoji?)

I just looked it up because I was curious to see of CJF was the 2nd winningest coach in PSU history and interestingly I discovered there is a tie for 2nd. Here are the numbers, which includes CJF's 3-3 in 2025. Maybe the ghost of Rip Engle is preventing CJF from passing him.

Rip Engle 104-48-4
CJF 104-45

Yeah, I thought about that. At least I'm not a Phils or Eagles fan. My baseball team did manage to see the post-season for a split second, though they got sent packing early. At least the Phillies got ousted by some winners.

Absolutely. A routine tackle on 1st or 2nd down isn't cause for celebrating. A sack or tackle for loss on 3rd, ok, especially in a tight game.

Sure. You come up with a MEAINGFUL stop in a tight game, then fine. Go nuts. Ride the horsey. Barbecue the ball. Do the Icky Shuffle off a fuggin' cliff. But you make one TFL, and then they convert on 3rd and long, and you end up looking like you flushed your brains along with your pre-game dump.

2nd paragraph I completely agree with you.

I see a lot of heart and grit in today's college players. Yes, there's still too much showboating. But its not all soft play. You just need the right coach to instill values that make a player great. More than any other level of football, college players are a reflection of their coach.

All coaches love their players. Most coaches dont tolerate lazy soft play and arent afraid to dish out some tough love. Unfortunately, that isn't the case at PSU.

My superpower: I have a preternatural ability to block out the world. I’m in Venice and I went to bed as the game started, found out the score at 03:30 my time, focused on convergence properties of power series before drifting off to sleep. Good luck coping, hang in there, we’ve seen worse.

Once again, with the game on the line Singleton is in instead of Allen. I don’t get it
A number of people have pointed this out.

It was two different times today, too. Penn State playing from behind, and Nick Singleton in the game instead of Allen. 4th and 3, game on the line... Allen? Nope. Have a cold QB drop back to pass, then charge up the middle for no gain-- game over.

It's things like this that make you wonder about the competence of these coaches. They don't seem to be prepared for anything. They constantly seem like they're trying to remember where they parked their car.

It has to be a little bit of an energy suck too. Like maybe instead of prancing or flexing or whatever, focus on your breathing and conserving some energy for 3rd down. Perhaps pay attention to who your opponent is subbing in and making sure you're in the right position for the next play.

Our defense is basically Kyle Todrank vs Jason Nolf.

Cignetti is from Pittsburgh. He’s never going to get past the elites at IU, but he could with the resources and buy-in from Kraft and PSU. PA + the mid Atlantic is a much better recruiting home base.

But he is 64 years old.
There is no more " recruiting home base".... those days are gone. Franklin's not getting fired and he ain't quitting. There's a 56 million dollar mountain nobody can figure out how to get over. I think the politically correct BOT gives him the rest of this year, and why not? With 5 games to go what's the point? Who cares? And Franklin will probably be here next year too. I got lambasted here a couple years ago for suggesting he is the worst game day coach in FBS. If you were one of the names listed in all these posts would you come to this s-it show? NFW. Penn State football as we old bastards knew it is dead and buried. We Are Irrelevant!!!

I used to think that booing kids who were playing college ball on scholarship was wrong. And I'm from Philly. Now? They are pros. Have at it.
Many people feel like you and me now. I used to not like it but when you are being paid millions of dollars to perform and don't, the players are going to hear it. Preparing them for the next level.
