Nope. Exactly the same now. Prior to NIL, Urban’s leverage was threatening a kids scholarship if he didn’t perform up to his expectations. Can’t use that when a kid has deposited money into his account. Which is exactly the same reason he can’t win in the NFL.
Completely disagree--Meyer with a portal would love life

Disagree for lots of reasons. College are still kids. NFL has a salary cap. NFL has contracts. College has unlimited free agency

Not sure who we can get but I think top of the list is a guy who knows how to develop and coach physcial/tough lines. Need that in our culture along with actually holding players accountable.
I thought CJF was doing a good job overall. However his hire of current OL coach was more than weak. He needed a crusty guy with experience. He didn’t get that.

After Sandusky PSU is not hiring an unethical coach with a troubled past, such as hiding allegations of domestic abuse against one of his asst coaches. He gets amnesia when things go down and develops “health” issues when he is heading out the door. 0% chance Urban is approached by PSU.
IMO the Sandusky mess was engineered by the BOT (at the time) in order to get Joe out and gain power. At this point, I think the BOT would approve hiring the devil himself if that’d meet their goals.

What do you think the most frequently asked question an NFL Scout asks a college HC? They want to know how the kid handles money. They want to know if the kid has the same drive and work ethic as he had before the money. You don’t think that’s an issue with college players?

Running out on his “dream school” after 1 year. Taking a loaded #1 ranked USC team to unranked by the end of the year even while cheating. He cannot stop being a whiny *****. Constantly whining about opposing coaches. Constantly whining about the BCS and playoff system. Bitching about his own fans and student section. Cheats as a coach, cheated on his wife, was rumored to be involved with Saban’s daughter while at bama.

He has the personality and ethics of Steve Spurrier but without the winning. Thinner skin than Franklin and bigger douche than Brian Kelly.

He does recruit well and runs an exciting offense though.

Being an Alum is not skin in the game. I would guess most of the loudest voices aren't alums and have never been members of the Nittany Lion Club. I'm an Alum BSCE '93 but I don't give anything to better football.
Uh, it absolutely is. People are more willing to donate when there's something to be proud of. "Skin in the game" is distinctly NOT when you're a donor to whom money means nothing.

Don’t rush it but at the same time, take it as soon as you can. It’s not a matter of how many years we got left but rather how many good years.

I still have a kid in college and paying full out of state tuition. Brutal.

The UNC hoops 2022-23 collapse is the only thing that comes to mind that matches this debacle. The Heels were preseason #1 and missed the tournament all together.
The most underachieving team compared to expectations in the history of any sport, including college and pro. Not baseball. Not basketball. Not football. Never has a team so grossly underperformed at any level. We will never live down nor forget this season. It will haunt us forever. Penn State football may be dead for decades because of this putrid team. The players on this team are soft as marshmallows and the coaches are dumb as rocks. They might well have destroyed everything that Paterno built. They ought to cancel any further stadium construction and spend the money elsewhere. Play future games at State College High.

Would a FOIA request work to get the NIL contracts with individual players? I know PSU is not paying them or administering them but we are guiding them. I need to know why certain struggling players like Singleton have been guaranteed playing time.
I read your post and messaged my buddy who is the DA in a fairly decent size city in Ohio and he said

Don't kow about the rest of your argument, but is there really a bigger douche than Kelly?

Agreed, of course he’d take it if offered, I don’t see Day leaving any time soon. I have no idea if he’s qualified to run an organization the size of Penn State Football though.
Absolutely. Hartline would take the psu job in a nanosecond

but I’d rather have a guy with HC experience

3-9 is possible maybe probable

I don't see another win.

Nor do I... Sad situation. Kraft has a lot on his plate right now... I wish him well. He doesn't get this figured out quick that stadium project could bankrupt the athletic department. That is not hyperbole.

Cignetti is from Pittsburgh. He’s never going to get past the elites at IU, but he could with the resources and buy-in from Kraft and PSU. PA + the mid Atlantic is a much better recruiting home base.

But he is 64 years old.

I really doubt it. In theory, the NIL contract is outside of university control.

They’ll get the funding and finish the stadium. The issue is similar to FSU…can you continue and fight thru the negativity when you have a large buyout? We are about to find out over the next two years.
