Put Up or Shut Up Time

So, today starts the rest of the 2025-2026 SHU Men's Basketball Season. They basically have to go 6-2 or 7-1 with a win against SJU at home to get back onto the Bubble. If they can do that and do some damage at MSG, they will have a chance on Selection Sunday.

Can they do it? Enough is a enough. If the coach doesn't want to make changes that is his prerogative. He has more expertise than the rest of us. He has to live with his decisions. We can evaluate in several weeks. The team has to play to the best of their abilities whatever that may be. Maybe we overrated them and that has led to false expectations. There are the detractor's that have seen enough. Only the players can fix this. They MUST play with focus and more important with Confidence. If not, it will be lessons learned and the staff can spend differently next season.

The put up or shut up is such a ridiculous saying. Like the players are trying to win every game.

It’a about stop talking (which players and coaches alike do) and actually performing on court.

Totally agree with you! They are doing the best they can with the talent they have. They play hard and compete in just about every game and the record is so much better than last year we should all be thankful! It made for a fun team to watch and root for.

Players are asked questions. What are they supposed to say, we don't have a chance today? Same with the coaches..

All games in the Big East are important and there's no need to say put up or shut up. It's no more than a mucho comment for fans who have never played anywhere close to this level.

I think some of the posters on this forum should shut up and just enjoy the rest of the season. Expectations were way out of line with the total redoing of the team and the money available and the talent that was available. We did good no matter how the rest of the season goes.

Wish we could see Hines get a lot of old fashioned low post feeds. If he could be consistent it would help a ton not only in scoring but by slowing the game down and letting us set up the press.

Letting teams run and get open for 3s is killing us. We’ve started to become similar to last season. Clark is now Coleman where he has to handle the ball and be responsible for all scoring since nobody else can do either. We saw how it worked out last season..

I was disappointed last game with their rebounding.
Three against one and guess who gets the rebound.
Dar played only a few minutes and was the only one who actually boxed out.... that I saw.
Gave up way too many defensive rebounds.

This is pretty bold. Aren’t you a bit old for participation ribbons? Those same posters may want to see you “shut up.”

Who was Dar boxing out, he had no rebounds or counting stats of any kind at Villanova.

Halldan, it's a metaphorical comment. The team has my support fully 1000 percent. I drive to games at great expense or take long train rides to games. I guess I could have said "You're Running Out of Time". Remember Jim Fasell saying put your chips to the middle of the table. You are in or out. In other words if you can elevate the play. i don't believe our guys are trying to fail or come up short.

I would say that if your stats say you hit two or three out of 10, then thats my expectation. I recently showed compassion to one of our frontcourt piayers for missing important free throws. I was countered with why these are paid professionals. So, which is it?

I have no issue with you as a fan.

I just despise that comment telling players essentially to play well or shut up. These are for the most part very young men and despite now getting paid are under enormous pressure. Who are we to in any way tell them, especially this team that have played their hearts out all season long to shut up?

Dan— with all due respect, it’s not that serious, lol. It’s just a phrase. I have been using it plenty myself. It basically means the same thing as “do or die.” Are we worried about loss of life if we don’t win today?

It is not a comment about the players saying anything verbal. Kind of like saying "let's see what you got" Its a positive, I know you can do better. I do agree with you about the pressure whether paid or whatever else. That's why I had compassion for our guy after the free throw misses, It is not easy when you actually have to do it. We have the luxury of watching from our seats or couch.

True. Reality is that they have a very good record considering that the team is mostly comprised of offensively-challenged players who compiled moderate to poor stats on mostly losing teams in mostly weaker conferences. You have to give Sha major credit for leading this team to its record so far. They were picked at the bottom of the league and deservedly so based on their respective pedigrees.

They are very highly paid professionals. No more kid gloves.

It's DEFINITELY time to put up or shut up and see what we are really made of as a team. We've had high moments and low moments, and are basically a bipolar team. The tale of two SHU's. Post-season all but slipped away.

You equate money without taking into consideration these are young men. When you and I did what we did at their age did having or not having money make any difference?

When we were kids we weren’t paid athletes and we sometimes took the heat. The “kids/pros” now get financial contracts and, therefore, deserve ZERO consideration of their age. Their pros. Case closed.

I made $2.35 an hour at Burger King while I went to Seton Hall and nobody coddled me.

These players have far more skill in what they are doing now than most of us have ever had. They earned what they are being given. But I don't equate it with being coddled.

I know how hard they have worked to get where they are now. I worked just as hard but could not compare to reach their skill level although I considered myself a pretty good, not great, competitor. For that I admire them and as long as they stay on the straight and narrow they have my total admiration .

My intentions were not to call out our guys. I just wanted them to step up their play after the Villanova game. They gave a Solid effort at Creighton. I truly apologize for Posting this thread.

You have nothing to apologize for. This is a harmless thread and one person is making you feel bad for it. These dudes are paid and even if they weren’t, I don’t see anything wrong with what you posted.
