Quick Points on The SJU Loss.

That was a crunching loss. That was The Quad 1 win that was needed. I give the coaching staff ton of credit for having the team ready. They really were. The pace, tempo and toughness were all on display. They actually scored 38 points in the first half. The second half started great and the lead looked solid.

However, the fouling and over subbing reared its ugly head. The PG had a rough night and a very tough second half. The frontcourt produced zilch and could not finish their plays. Staton McCray and Simpkins started out well but declined maybe do to fatigue. The free throw shooting once again saw players missing both at important times. Is Seton Hall the only team in the nation that has a PG that won't take a three??? That part is on the coach. He has to demand it. Have to keep the opponent honest and at least try 1 or 2??? The use of Hines was puzzling. Has to be out there at crunch time.

I thought playing at MSG helped the team and then hurt the team. They obviously played with more focus, and it showed. In fairness when SJU were coming back the players were rattled. At one point it seemed like Seton Hall were playing against The Knicks and not SJU. It's a Great venue and quite intimidating. So maybe some slack to our guys. Anyway, I thought they would play up to SJU's level and they did. Now I am concerned they will play down to DePaul's level?

Most painful loss of the season. Leading by 15 with about 16 to play and we hit 1 FG in 12+ minutes? Hard to believe. Choke. It would’ve been a marquee win. We won one this way (Creighton), lost one this way now, so cue the Seinfeld evening out, LOL.

The good: The team was right there against St. John’s and Connecticut.

The bad: The same issue keeps popping up with scoring and now FT shooting and it’s killing the team. It gets in your head. Maybe regression to the mean for some veterans, but it’s also a slump. Missing those putbacks and 0/2 FT trips is absurd, but that’s becoming common.

I had us at 17-14, 8-12 preseason. So I’m happy we’re relevant and being a Bubble team is a pretty good year. Plenty of basketball left, gotta take care of business.

Hines MIA in second half was a head scratcher
Thought the same. Esp when Sha says Payne was winded and had a bum ankle.

Sha clearly values Payne more in late games. Was the same against UConn.

Hey, 14-5, 4-4, NET #44 today. Go get the bid, it’s still there to be had.

If they come out with that intensity and focus they could win any remaining game.

Same problems. A+ grade defense and F grade offense. Defense that relies on turnovers and committing fouls. That can be a problem if the turnovers don't happen and the other team makes its free throws.

Not sure what to expect in the remaining games. This team could win a lot of them or lose a lot of them. They have a habit now of having a very low scoring half in every game. That is not going to bring success going forward.

Hines wasn't looking good in my opinion first half. Seemed a step behind early. Holloway is picking his guys based on nightly performance. Sometimes he favors Hines. Free throws just killed us last night and put backs under the basket. Felt like we out played them and lost. I’m with you lot of basketball to be played lots of opportunities. We are not a bad team, need to seize, win and advance.

Hines is being taken to school quite a bit by upperclassmen with experience. He needs to study more film and prepare better. Zuby and Hopkins blew right by him with moves they make all the time. No substitute for experiencing it in a game but he looked unprepared the last few games as many freshman do. He's got to get off the floor, put his big boy pants on and improve his preparation IMO. He can make a huge difference for us when he's on. He did not play a lot of minutes last night either so it couldn't have been his legs or stamina. If he wants the big contract next year, he's gonna have to put some better results on tape.

I think the last 3 games have been very interesting to watch how the 3 coaches attacked us. Hurley and Pitino basically said we have just as good of athletes as Seton Hall we're going to beat them at their own game. We took both teams down to the wire. Matta on the other hand basically conceded that they didn't have the athletes we had and said let's dare Seton Hall to beat us in a half court game and they had us beat by halftime.

He was falling for the high screens and switching off his big which allowed them to break to the basket leaving him on a smaller player. When he tried to recover he was a bit slow. That is not on him that is on Sha not coaching him to NOT switch and stay with the big that is out beyond the free throw line. This happens all the time with our centers. Payne was a victim too but is faster on his feet to recover but we get burned time and time again same as last year,

So you're saying that 19 games into the season Hines can't defend the pick & roll & is a bit slow to recover but it's Sha's fault? Our defense is predicated on switching & recovering quickly. That's all we do & why we've been so successful this year.

We have held par so far with no bad losses, with the exception of (maybe) Butler...next 5 games will tell us where we stand..

No way held par. Now in a swoon.

Butler was a bad game. And last night msg was as bad a last 10 min from on court performance to coach chair as there can be.

I have us losing at Depaul which puts us at 14-6, 4-5, with home games against X and Marq. Those two will be must wins and then split at Creighton or at Nova and we will be in decent shape.

Yes but could of, would of is meaningless. You are your record and body of work at the end of the day. And we know what it is from the standings and the BE stats.
