because I thought it made us look too small time. Like it would take a miracle for us to beat another team in the same conference as us when we are somewhere between the 3rd and 7th best team in the league. It's not like we were a CUSA team trying to compete against an SEC Champ. But after seeing us play Saturday night, maybe the slogan was a little more appropriate than I thought.
I still think a few stupid mistakes (JB not fielding the punt and giving up an extra 15-20 yards of field position, which let them get in field goal range; not getting away from the shanked punt, although maybe it was too loud to hear; not trying to block the edge on the field goal attempt; playcalling on the goal line) made it a lot worse than it should have been. Based on the 97 yd drive, I think we would have settled down in the second half and played respectable had we not proceeded to give them three offensive possessions in a row. But if Bama made a mistake last night, we didn't take advantage of it. I guess we had an interception that we dropped. Other than that, I don't remember anything they did that gave us a chance. If we had played mistake free, I still think Bama would have come close to covering.
Disappointing to lay an egg like that in a big game, but it doesn't really affect my outlook for the rest of the season. Bama is better than I thought, and we got confirmation that some of the areas we were concerned about are going to be an issue against good teams, but on the flip side, LSU is much worse than last year although we still need our DL to step up to stop their run. A&M, while dangerous, is turnover prone and we have them at home. Ark is still a dumpster fire, and UM had trouble handling A&M at home after getting what, a 5+ turnover differential.
If the team doesn't get discouraged, we should still get to 9-3 and 10-2 is still within reach.
