Austin Comer had a big night including this 61 yard run as the Eagle defense struggled to find the ball all night.
SWOOPE- The Greensville County Eagles hadn’t been this far before and there were a couple of things they could and could not do if they wanted to win Friday night. The one thing they couldn’t do was turnover the football. Unfortunately, two fumbles for 2 minutes had elapsed off the clock and on the road was mentally draining for the Eagles. Their defense had trouble stopping the double wing but the biggest issue was the Eagles ineffectiveness on offense that ultimately couldn’t stop the lead from swelling out of control.
The last 2A Region A team came out pumped and ready to go. Receiving the ball first, the Eagles would not hesitate to hit their top wide receiver Jordan Peebles who would try to get more yards but while doing so the ball was knocked loose and Austin Comer scooped up the fumble and dashed into the endzone from 37 yards out. Comer also kicked the extra point and Gap was up 7-0 with 11;11 to play in the 1st. The Eagles on the kick return would fumble and Jacob Callison recovered. Soon after that Tristan Anderson would power into the end zone to make it 14-0 Gap with 10:14 on the clock.

Greensville's Shyheim Anderson was able to stiff arm his way out of the clutches of Charles Weatherman for a first down.
Greensville’s fans remained supportive as the coaching staff did a good job to refocus the Eagles on the next possession. On the return, Tyquan Odom would make one man miss and then it was bolted all the way for 67-yard touchdown. The conversion would be no good and it was 14-6 Gap in the lead at the 10:00 mark in the first.
The next possession was big for Buffalo Gap. Knowing they need a stop to capitalize on the momentum with a 4th down looming, the Bison did their inside reverse that Anderson would take for a 13-yard touchdown. That play would devastate the Eagles several more times on the night. The next time came when Dylan Thompson went in from 25 yards out to make it 27-6 at the 11:52 mark in the 2nd.
Eagle qb Shyheim Anderson would launch a deep pass for Peebles who had beat his man by 10 yards for the touchdown to cut the lead to 27-12 with 10:34 to go in the quarter. The visiting fans pleaded for a defensive stop and it looked like one was about to occur but then David Mullins happened. The senior fullback blasted right up the middle from 12 yards out to make it 34-12 Gap with 6:50 to go before halftime.

The Eagle's Rahkeem Ricks prepares to collide with power fullback David Mullins. Mullins rushed for 184 yards.
Coming close to stopping the Gap offense again, Greensville was trying to give their team a reasoning to be happy before halftime. With less than 10 seconds left, Lucas Wheeler would find Comer on a beautiful play action fake and pass to make it 41-12 at the half.
Comer and Wheeler would hook up again on the same endzone and nearly from the same spot. Comer’s touchdown reception off play action from 14 yards out increased advantage to 36 points and a running clock would then begin. Following another failed possession, Mullins would get his longest run of the night going 32 yards for a score to make it 55-12.

Comer receives the perfectly thrown pass in the corner of the endzone.
In the midst of chants of “Go Gap Go!”, the Bison would add another score. This time Callison would do the honors to make it 62-12 as things would get a little chippie from that point on.
Wheeler finished going 2-2 passing for 25 yards and 2 touchdowns on the night. Comer had 3 total touchdowns on the night including the 2 receptions. Mullins added 184 yards rushing and 2 touchdowns for the Bison.
The Eagles finished overall 8-5 with an even brighter future with a lot of talent joining the squad next season. Expect to hear more from Coach Mario Walton and the Eagles next season.
The Bison will be hitting the road versus the highest seeded winner of the 2A West games today.
