I thought this would happen. Matt had to put the AD ( Dannen ) on notice before he could speak to Ped State. That naturally triggered a situation where, if Ruhle DID leave, he likely does what Cignetti did, bring his staff and something like 18 of his best players with him. If that happened here, the program would be in a situation where it would take years to rebuild the roster and we would have to hope and pray the new coach hire was a home run. I was against an extension but it was reported weeks ago that one was "in the works". My thought was, there is five years left on his contract, that is plenty of time to evaluate things. I hope that along with the raise, there is a much larger buyout on Ruhle's end. As a program, you just never want to bend over and offer a one sided extension without getting something in return. A larger salary with a LOWER buyout. Something creative that also gives NU some relief if we need to fire him. One thing I do know, one year from now there will be a lot of pissed off people due to the fact that next years schedule is really difficult. It is not hard to imagine that won-loss wise we likely will not be 6-2 at this point next year.
