The last 3 CB predictions on him are to us. The national scouting guy for 247 even picked us.

Daddy backed out on the idea of sending him to prep school in Dallas. Can only help our case.

Really? Hadn't heard that. I thought they just wanted him home, because Dallas wasn't the only I had heard a possible destinations. Either way, can only help for him to stay at Calloway.

Do you realize how ridiculous this is? HE most likely doesn't even know where he will sign yet. How the hell would some "recruiting gurus" on a 17ing website have a clue?

If you click on the link and look at each individual's predictions, you will notice the most recent 3 predictors all have MSU (on 7/14). I would like to think that is not a coincidence. Does anyone have any info on here on what could have changed recently? Did Ray finally break through to a recruit and family?

Do you call Calipari that name because of any of the following?
- you see him as fishy and even though squid is not fish, its close enough for you to giggle at the name-play.
- you see him as slimy and view squid as slimy.
- you think he secretly has 10 tentacles and is hiding the other 6 besides his legs and arms.

Also- its spelled Calamari. If you are going to call him squid, spell it correctly.
Just trying to understand the appeal of childish nicknames.

You're right that it means little to nothing as far as the chances that he actually ends up with us, but it does mean we're still in the game with him, which is the best news we can expect at this point. It also means Ray is doing something right in recruiting, but I know a lot of people don't want to hear that.

Or it just means 24/7 is attempting to drive up new membership sales in the state of Mississippi. It is a business right?

I could be

in the minority, but I don't see us being "in the running" as a sucess, at the end of the day (if he goes elsewhere).

Of course not. But there's an infinitely better chance of us landing him if we're in the running than if we're not.

Recruiting never changes. The lottery tickets never pick MSU boys. In any sport. We don't get the greatest football player and we don't get the greatest basketball player in the country. Ever. Never ever ever. Stop the cycle of getting MSU fans excited for the chance that we might just get this one this time. Nope. We aint. And I'm also not winning the Powerball this Saturday. You aren't either.

We may eventually a long time from now be able to sign #1 players in the nation but we are skipping about 700 steps right now. How about just a 40% 3 point shooting transfer or juco that can play for us this season? I think that is a much more realistic goal and very attainable one for any SEC basketball program right?

I agree.. It's a huge failure for Ray if we don't get Malik, especially with the way he has put all his efforts into landing this one player.
For Ray, it's land Malik or get fired...

So if Ray wins 19 games this coming season and 21 games the following season, but doesn't land Newman- you want Ray fired?

Its clear progress from year to year. Its sustained growth. Its with a roster that follows the coach instead of runs around without control.

You're right. Chris Jones was only like the second highest rated player in the country. We should definitely not even try for somebody highly ranked, even if they are in our backyard and had a father that played for state.

For the record,

the situation with Malik/BBall Dogs & CJ/Mullen Dogs are not even in the same universe....

I don't think anyone is suggested we not recruit Malik, either.

My point is that he has spent so much time recruiting Mailk instead of dividing up that time between him and other players that it will be a huge loss if we don't sign him.

Ding ding ding!! We have ourselves a winner. How many 35-40% 3point shooting jucos that would play significant minutes for us this year to fill that open spot could Ray have signed with all that time he's spent on Newman?

thats just simply not true in basketball. We actually have history on our side with an instate kid this highly touted. Jonathan Bender, Monta Ellis, Travis Outlaw, Renardo Sidney even John Riek in '08 was the listed as the number 1 center and player for a while no matter how these players ended up potential wise. They were all top 15 guys and signed

Good point. Also, Vernon Goodridge was ranked the number one center in the nation (by Scout, I think) when we signed him.

The signing period is still a long way off, but I'm glad we may be in the hunt.

Wat?

Bender-played 0 minutes at MSU
Ellis- played 0 minutes at MSU
Outlaw-played 0 minutes at MSU
Sidney- seriously?
Riek- hahaha believe that ranking was before he tore up his legs and they replaced them with 14 knees

When did Ray sign any of these "players"? Goodridge transferred out. Another miss.

Apparently you have short term memory loss. You said and i quote 'The lottery tickets never pick MSU boys. In any sport. We don't get the greatest football player and we don't get the greatest basketball player in the country. Ever. Never ever ever." i just showed you that at the time of them "PICKING US" these guys were as highly touted as Top 10 can't miss 5 star guys at the time. Also said no matter how they ended up or if they came to campus they chose and signed the dotted line. You didn't say we don't have #1 Lottery Picks leaving here thats a different story

The following is a quote from you in this thread:

"The lottery tickets never pick MSU boys. In any sport. We don't get the greatest football player and we don't get the greatest basketball player in the country. Ever. Never ever ever."

Zerosktr151 and I pointed out that what you said was false. According to recruiting websites, we have gotten the best (or near best) player at a sport to sign with us. We had no control over the kids' decisions to forego college or to not pan out as experts predicted. Ray was never mentioned by me or you, until you pulled that magic trick out of your bag to attempt to cover your idiocy. I was uninformed that "never ever ever" really meant "the last two years in basketball but not in football which I just mentioned the sentence before."
