Carino:

"The blown out-of-bounds call at the end could have been reversed by a coach's challenge, but Seton Hall was out of timeouts. That rule needs to be tweaked. At the game's end, the officials spent five minutes reviewing footage to change the clock by two seconds. If they can do that, they can conduct an auto-review for something of that magnitude in the final 30 ticks."

Only Clark and Williams of our guards/small forwards were in foul trouble with 5 minutes to go into the game. That left a bunch of kids that could fill in. Sha was too slow on the trigger to get the press going again. There were bodies available. It had to be done to disrupt USC from slowing the game down, using clock, playing half court and using their size advantage (14 plus rebounds).
You are not giving up with this. First of all, there aren‘t 10 to 12 guys available. Secondly, three guys in foul trouble is a lot. Even two guys in foul trouble is a lot, especially when one is your point guard. Thirdly, it takes energy to press for a full game, especially when you’re playing twice in two days. It’s a lot harder to do, and to be effective, than you are making it out to be.

This may be a dumb thought but I wonder if basketball has ever considered a system similar to hockey where if you lose a challenge you receive a 2:00 minute penalty. It’s a strong enough deterrent so teams are constantly challenging plays, but it doesn’t hamper you to challenge if there is an obviously wrong call. Maybe in basketball, the penalty could be two free throws. You wouldn’t have to save timeouts to challenge.

It would have been nice to win yesterday and play ASU. ASU was also picked 12th (in the Big 12). Clark is going to need to stay out of foul trouble in BE play.

Now Clark picks up and gets in more foul trouble on the offensive end!

Well Lunardi has them as an 8 Seed as of today. So yeah maybe you’re a big pre season rankings guy but they don’t mean anything.
Nothing is gospel, but pretend Rutgers lost a close one to USC, and someone says “hey Rutgers almost beat a Sweet 16 team”? Then go.

ASU was picked 16 out of 16 in their league I believe. Dead last.
