Much improved with the hiring of their new coach. The last guy wasn't doing anything for a long time

Clipping a paycheck. Happy to see Price doing something with the team and will face two ranked teams this weekend in Syracuse and Minny. Should be ranked if we can best one of them as we are just outside rankings.

I've mentioned this before about the prior coach. Not very good at his job. My daughter was a 1st team all conference XC runner as a sophomore, not statewide great but much better than average. She quit running to start rowing her junior and senior year and was very good. Her boat won states and she had a great erg time as well as the perfect build for a rower, and no one would outwork her in the gym. On our recruiting visit to RU, they told her we don't like to recruit HS rowers, we prefer girls who were good at other sports who want to row. Now that makes no sense. She went on to row at another school and her very first year her boat ended up finishing 5th at NCAA's, while the RU team was sitting at home.

That should’ve gotten him fired on the spot.

He knew he was safe for a long time. FINALLY a person like Hobbs takes a interest in the global landscape of all RU sports and he gets the boot. I knew MB well and outside of a ridiculous recruit (Maite Urtasun) 20 yrs ago women's rowing never showed results. Conversely the men's rowing team was routinely ranked top 10-15 and gets axed.

Wonder why mens rowing isn't considered an NCAA sport that doesn't score in the Directors Cup. That being said I wouldn't be shocked if RU women's crew is ranked either this year or next.

In men's crew the sport supersedes the NCAA by over 50 yrs (started in 1850's). Their conference is the "IRA" and RU more directly competes in the EARC. Men's rowing doesn't want to adhere to the rules the NCAA would impose and which would inevitably terminate shirt betting which has a long rich tradition in the sport. Also more schools would have to cough up more Title IX funds if it was included so the inclusion in NCAA has never had any traction. Converting the sport to conference championships and holding NCAA's would diminish all the history and frankly no BIG teams outside UM and Wisco are any good.
