Remember- "I Believe in Steve" Sloan-About 30 years ago...See more below...

Some other "beliefs" I'm sure are close to your heart...

"The South Will Rise Again"

We are the "Harvard of the South"

"LSU is our real rival"

"We won't miss a beat when Eli graduates cause spurlock is that good"

" (insert name here) for heisman!"

In 2008..." 10-1 and Sugar Bowl!"

"Nutt never loses to Mississippi State!"

keep letting those three years of denial and frustration flow! It's ok.

Surely y'all can do better than this. This is pitiful. What the 17 happened to the 6-pack I used to know?

JJ, give bucky a blowjob? Fine. Bold statement given that two weeks ago many of y'all would've given the hunchback a lot more than that, without lube, no limitations.

LD, to an outsider, the space ship concept seems and in fact is insane. Also to an outsider, in a microcosm parallel, the concept your team had a prayer of beating Alabama is also insane.

TUS, bringing up stereotypes. Smooth. That one's NEVER been done before. No, seriously.

Sloan was before my time, but regarding shirts, don't throw stones when you live in glass houses. For the record, I abhorred the TSWRA chant, and was fully in favor of Jones banning From Dixie with Love to end it.

Not sure I'd compare "LSU is our real rival" to "I believe 8-0" though, as there's a lot of history between the two teams, and even recently we usually have something on the line when we play them. Shot at the SEC title game in 2003, playing for bowl position in 2008 and 2009 (even sweeter because they were a Top 10 team), a shot at breaking even and going to a bowl in 2010 (took them to the wire). There's a reason that during the national anthem, our fans yell "Go to hell LSU!" during the pause right before "home of the brave."

That said, MSU is certainly a rival. As for Spurlock, yeah, I didn't buy that **** either and knew '04 was going to be a bad season the moment that midget's second pass was knocked down by a Memphis player.

WTD, three years of denial and frustration? What the 17 am I in denial over or frustrated by in saying Heaven's Gate was full of believers too? 2009 was actually the "10-1 and Sugar Bowl" thing, though I didn't believe that myself. Sure was nice being ranked No. 4 for a while though. Get ranked in the top 5 (as opposed to earning a 7-0 record against mediocre teams) then we'll talk about ridiculous expectations flapjack.

When he came to Ole Miss, the line about Nutt was accurate. He had, what, a 9-game winning streak over MSU. Hindsight proves it was just his fortune to coach against Sherrill and Croom, and misfortune of facing a new coach who bases your entire season and program around us, with constant references to "The school up north" (well, technically northwest, unless the Tupelo campus is fielding a football team), and desperately trying to make it into a rivalry.

Want more proof? Click here, here, here and here.

As for "(insert name here) for heisman!" I submit Banks' Heisman commercial about a week before Bama torched him:

Actually, you'd be gravely mistaken. Not me and I don't even own a purple shirt. My former board handle here was Homer J Simpon IV (yes, it was misspelled), and I took a long break from the board before the move was made from Yuku, I assume.

Really creepy that you're trying to dig up info on others talking sports on a message board btw.

Why in the hell would I lie about previously having an account with this board? Why do you think my first post was whether or not yesterday was grounds to bring the Friday Four Play back? If memory serves right, I joined very shortly after the founders broke away from Swindoll's board.

Yes, I'm an Ole Miss fan, and typically don't take cheap shots, which albeit, the Heaven's Gate thing definitely was, but it was intended as a joke.

You were ranked number 4 preseason so you actually never earned. Atleast weearned 7-0

We were not ranked preseason No. 4. We were ranked No. 8, based largely on our surprise turnaround and finish to the 2008 season (beating Florida at Florida, furious comeback attempt at eventual No. 1 Alabama, 6-game win streak including at Arkansas, Auburn, at LSU, MSU and 11-1 Texas Tech in the Cotton Bowl) a veteran QB returning (still trying to figure out what happened to Jevan Snead in 2009. Just didn't build on the promise he showed in '08 and most of the starters/contributors from the year before returning (Greg Hardy, Jerrell Powe, Dexter McCluster, John Jerry, Kendrick Lewis, Shay Hodge, Cordera Eason, etc.)

We earned our ranking by performing so well in Nutt's first season, and I think that had a lot to do with it. I honestly think the pollsters looked at us and said, "This is just the start." We had the nucleus, minus Michael Oher and Peria Jerry, returning to a team that went from 4-8 to 9-4 in a year's time. Why not rank us high? We beat Memphis, had a bye (17ing Pete Boone) where Washington upset USC, and dominated Southeastern Louisiana.

Basically, through dominating vastly inferior competition (sound familiar?) and having an early bye week, we rose four spots to No. 4. And might've gone higher if Nutt had started using McCluster as a running back before the fourth quarter at South Carolina, as we beat Vanderbilt the next week. But it would've come crashing back to earth eventually, as we didn't belong on the same field with Alabama in 2009.

Seems to me y'all got some pretty decent rankings and had high expectations yourselves after going from 5-7 to 9-4 with a Gator Bowl win the next year. You started at No. 20, and moved up to No. 16 after dominating Memphis, but fell out after losing at unranked Auburn and to No. 3 LSU at home. There was plenty of reason for your ranking and optimism preseason, based on the previous year, but just like us in 2009, the season proved y'all were overhyped.

Now, y'all "earned" 7-0 with four wins against out of conference powderpuffs (including Troy by 6 despite them outgaining you by 120 yards, and South Alabama, who BEGAN it's football program in 2009) and three wins against SEC teams who will be firing their coaches after this season, with a fourth when you play Arkansas, if you win.

Y'all got three games left to prove yourselves, and if you beat LSU, the critics will shut the 17 up. That's the reason so many are giving MSU and Mullen hell. Y'all haven't really beaten anyone noteworthy under him. Nutt at least beat three top 10 teams (one, an eventual national champion, on the road) and four ranked teams total in his first two years. Meanwhile y'all were contemplating This is our State (Alabama) T-shirts leading into the game at Alabama and doing all the "I believe" stuff (bulletin board material is never a good thing thing to give to another team) under a coach with half the quality wins in four years that Nutt had in two.

We almost looked as bad as Ole Miss yesterday....

It was embarrassing, the Ole Miss-ian performance.

See, this is why the "trolls" come out. Comments like this. If by "Ole Miss-ian," you mean Ole Miss circa 2010 or 2011, I concur, MSU performed at an "Ole Miss-ian" level Saturday.

If you're comparing our performances yesterday, sorry, you're an idiot. Y'all trailed a TAMU team we were a QB sneak away from beating 24-0 at the half at home. We trailed the No. 6 team in the country 14-10 at the half at their place - based largely on two blown coverages and a fumble on a first down pass when we were in position to make 17-7 our favor.

They kicked our *** second half. TAMU kicked your *** second half. Both could've named the score. I'll still take our overall performance, especially considering the location and the caliber of opponent, over anything I saw out of Starkville Saturday.

The fake snow was pretty cool though. That, I'll give you.

I have to agree with Mutt on this...We did almost look as bad a Ole Miss. And when you start getting near that bad, it's a huge concern.

Sorry, bud, but Mutt's right on this one.

Fair enough. Bold statement, but fair enough. On the other side of that precarious coin, I suppose it's fair to say I'm glad we didn't look as bad as MSU did against TAMU or Alabama. Otherwise, we never would've led either, and both contests would've been over by the end of the first quarter.

You may be lying after all about having a former handle on here for years. Not knowing the way Mutt posts tells me what I need to know.

Have you just been sitting on a MSU board hitting refresh since 9am this morning so you can respond to State fans? Obsess much? Take your performance from yesterday over ours, meanwhile we'll take our record, team, coach, fan base, and everything else over yours. Now, be gone like the little gnats you 17ers have become.
