Sha deserves a lot of credit…not for beating St Peters, but for changing his style of play. Starting out with a press was a hit. St Peters zone didn’t bother us at all. I thought we ran great sets. Fisher/Dar was open almost every time. Only decision I didn’t agree was not to start Hines. He has to start every game moving forward. I’m ready to send in money strictly for him to stay.

Great to blowout a team you're suppose to blowout!

Highlights for me:

Najai Hines for one, even if it was lowly St. Peter's. The sky's the limit for him.

Free throw shooting. Should travel well as well.

As alluded to above, a true press not just token pressure.

Sharing the ball, unselfish basketball.

I can't say if we'll be better than I expect but I can't see us being worse than I expect.

It was actually fun to watch SHU basketball! Lets goo. Block party featuring Hines was worth the price of admission alone. Not to mention bigs as well as a whole team who can actually hit FT's, actual offensive sets moving the D leading to easy dunks, some outside shooting. Engaged D. I think I only remember seeing one or two egregious defensive lapses. Bigs who can be strong inside and finish. Definitely something to build on.

Thought the new guys looked to be true basketball players. Could be a high basketball IQ squad. They were completely focused, unusual for a first game of the season. Of course, we won't really know until they play more talented teams. Nice start to the season. They play like that, and those seats are going to get filled in a hurry.

We already look more skilled. Very encouraging to see the team play look sharp with so many new faces. It looked more cohesive than maybe any game last year.
We did not score 1.28 points per possession (tonight’s figure) in any games last year. An encouraging sign.

Echoing everyone else here, but Hines looks really good. Way more athletic than I was expecting.

Love that Sha has finally gone with the press. This team is going to need cheap and easy baskets off its defense because it can’t shoot very well from three. Hines is a player and I know its St Peter’s but you can tell. This kid is special. I also can see Payne moving to the 4 with Hines at the 5 against some of the bigger teams that the Hall faces in the Big East.

I don’t know how good this team will be but at least it won’t be dreadful basketbal.

We hoped/theorized all offseason that we’d have a legit PG and an impact big. We saw it last night. That’s a great base to build from.

Dar looks explosive too. Parker also flashed a bit despite the fouls.

Positive opening night for sure. I'm still wary of the consensus(?) that we win seven BE games.
An aside: the guy doing play-by-play on WSOU was really good. I think the color-guy was OK, but he spoke so fast, it was hard to tell.
What was the crowd? Lot of students?

We need to begin to plan at this moment, right now, on how we are going to keep Baby Shaq for next year. Sha needs a strategy that can begin to be implemented immediately. This kid will be special and we don't get kids like that often. Last one was Angel. Even Mamu didn't make a splash immediately like Baby Shaq did. If we lose this kid next year that will be a tough blow to take. But I guess we should assume he's gone if no plan is implemented to be able to retain him, or if no plan is even attainable for what he'll be asking for.

I just made a substantial donation. I hope others follow that lead.

Also, for those that bought a legacy brick. Those bricks are now available for viewing on the outside of the practice facility, opposite the softball field.

Go look at them before or after the Friday night game.
