Just an FYI, and it might not be what many want to hear but....

SHU is not a sleep at the wheel as regards the hiring of a GM. But for this particular year, and hopefully for the last time, the money available for the program could have gone to hiring a full time GM, ot it could have gone to our NIL fund. The choice was an obvious one. it went to NIL.

Rutgers is advertising for a GM position for salary of 150k-300k. Even if we got one for 200k at most what would it have cost us maybe 2-3 bench players who probably are only going to play a few min here and there. You can go get some d2/Juco guys for cheap to fill the roster. A GM would take so much off the coaching staffs plate and help them figure out how to responsibly spend the money.

How does that make sense when I’m sure the GM role isn’t necessarily a huge ticket number for most? Diverting $200-400K for a GM gig wouldn’t really impact us on the court.

Pretty basic in the new NIL world to have a GM if you're a serious program.

There’s still a ton of programs that don’t have one.

Another thing that I wonder about the GM position …. It might be nice to have one, but what kind of pool of GM candidates is out there?
It’s a tricky position. You need to be skilled in many areas of negotiation and dealing with basketball coach culture.

Joe, coming off the brutal year last season I think Sha did a great job constructing the roster. He has a bunch of quality guards and wings and 3 excellent centers. They might be lacking at the 4 spot and will have to play small but based on my limited viewing and what I have heard from others who have seen full practices I fully expect the team is going to surprise this season.

I see a .500 season or slightly better and 8 Big East wins. All in a transition year.

Or how about what will a GM actually do…. Give sha a monthly list of the updated top 300 players in the country poached from ESPN, etc.. A list that 99% won’t consider coming to SHU regardless?

The GM is not even here yet and some posters are ready to kill the guy. LOL!
Therein lies the problem. No excuse to not have one in place. How has reinventing the wheel worked thus far for Felt and Sha? Answer— IN A CATASTROPHIC DISASTER!

Don’t believe me? Look at last year. Still don’t believe me? Well, it’s almost time to find out.

It should never be a question of player salary or GM. Its about reallocation of existing resources to bring in staff that have skills required in today's completely different environment.

How many coaches and support staff are employed by SH basketball and what is that budget? Why do we need all of these assistants with the same aging skillsets? If it's a money issue which is more valuable? Having someone skilled to take salary negotiations, market analysis, relationship-building with agents, etc off of Sha's workload or a 4th Assistant who specializes in recruiting 15-18 year old in a now defunct era?

A SHU GM role would be a brutally tough position right now as the expectations seem to far outweigh the resources. I still think top priority needs to be fixing the business side, otherwise even the best GM is still going to be working with both hands tied behind his back.

Hearing that we don't have the budget for a GM or assistant GM whatever for $150-250k? when the school charges around $50k per year for a student sounds ridiculous also.

Stop pretending and give the coach and department what they need that has given you unmatched national exposure for your school
