Two games this weekend on the West Coast. First one is tonight at San Francisco. Game on ESPN+ at 9pm. Hopefully, they added some nice talent and can get to the next level. You have to accumulate wins in games like this if you want an at large bid.

LAST GAME
Senior Jordana Codio (Winter Garden, Fla.) had a career-high 20 points as the Pirates routed Saint Peter's, 88-39, in the 2025-26 season-opener on Nov. 4 in Walsh Gym.

Although Saint Peter's had the first lead of the game, the Pirates immediately responded with a game-changing 22-0 run. The Hall took a 50-19 lead into the half despite only six combined first-half points by superstar guards Savannah Catalon (Mansfield, Texas) and Jada Eads (Orlando, Fla.).

Freshman Zahara Bishop (Minneapolis, Minn.) had 15 points on an efficient 6-for-8 shooting, including 2-for-3 from three-point range. Sophomore Ja'Kahla Craft (Elk River, Minn.) finished with a career-high 13 points, including 10 in the fourth quarter.

Seton Hall All-Time vs. the Dons: Seton Hall leads, 2-1
Last Meeting:
Seton Hall 59, San Francisco (F) – December 2, 2024 (Walsh Gymnasium)

AGAINST SAN FRANCISCO
Seton Hall and San Francisco will meet for only the fourth time in history, but the second of a home-and-home two-year series. The Hall has won two of the prior three all-time meetings, including a 59-53 victory at Walsh Gymnasium last season.

SCOUTING SAN FRANCISCO
San Francisco is coming off a 15-16 season a year ago, which included an 11-9 mark in the West Coast Conference (WCC). The fifth-seeded Dons defeated ninth-seeded LMU in the third round of the WCC Tournament, but fell to fourth-seeded Oregon State in the quarterfinals, which ended their season. Freja Werth earned All-WCC First Team honors, Emma Trawally Porta earned an All-WCC Second Team selection, while Angeliki Ziaka made the All-Freshman Team.

This year, the Dons were picked to finish sixth in the 12-team WCC according to the preseason coaches' poll. Returners from last season's roster comprise of Sol Castro and Paula Tirado, while talented transfers Olivia Williams (UC Irvine), Mara Neira (Presbyterian/Appalachian State), Meghan McIntyre (Southern Oregon), Nevaeh Ferrara Horne (North Dakota), Michelle Ugwah (Morehead State), and Candy Edokpaigbe (Seattle U) add depth and experience to the program.

San Francisco enters its match up with The Hall with a record of 1-1. The Dons throttled UNC Greensboro on opening night at home, 64-40, but were defeated at Boise State, 83-68, on Sunday. Candy Edokpaigbe is averaging a team-best 17.0 points per game, and erupted for 26 points against UNC Greensboro. San Francisco has had some trouble taking care of the ball early in the year, averaging 20.0 turnovers through game so far.

UP NEXT
Seton Hall will remain in California to take on the University of the Pacific on Sunday, Nov. 16. Tip time is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. ET. The contest will be streamed live on ESPN+. 89.5 FM WSOU or wsou.net will also carry the game.

So, it was mainly a good performance. Balanced scoring and everyone contributed when needed. San Francisco were like two different teams. Hard to gage how good they are.

Since it was only the second game and The Hall gals are learning to play as a unit, they have to be given time to improve. Somehow, they must find a way to approach second halves better this season. It derails them every year. The pace and tempo are fine, but decision making hurt them. Sometimes they race to find any shot and it leads to too many unforced turnovers. They need to correct that ASAP or they're going to lose games that crush them in March. They have enough talent.

Excellent start to the season. They look more balanced on the roster than previous years. So, far they have been very focused. They played 7 of 8 good quarters on the West Coast Trip. They have 6 remaining games in the OOC. Four at home against Fordham, Columbia, Auburn and Washington St. Two road games against Princeton and NC State. They really need to beat Columbia and Princeton this season. Those types of games have left them out of the NCAAs in the past. They cannot afford to lose their early season momentum. Both San Francisco and Pacific did not look like strong teams, but The Hall destroyed both on the road. They have to be careful of the unforced turnovers and improve on their three-point shooting. The offense looks good and so does the free throw shooting. Defending the three-point shot always is a challenge for the SHU Program. With UConn at the top of the conference every season, attaining an at large is the only way in. It looks like they have a legit opportunity this season.

The benefit to beating Columbia and Princeton is that you are not winning against weak sisters as we traditionally think of Ivy League schools but rather winning against teams that might challenge you for an at-large bid.

It's been a nice start but as noted above, the Women need to stack up wins to get the respect they believe they have earned.

Last year they struggled against their better opponents and that ultimately more than cancelled out any quality wins they had. There seems to be a lot of momentum here and you would love for them to capitalize on the opportunity.

Don’t like a playing a road game or two because you signed a players from that area.

Rutgers went to Kennesaw State last year for Ace Bailey and lost.

Do what’s best for the team, not 1 or 2 players

If you're any good at all, you should be able to win under those circumstances.

In what world should RU (or any major conference program with two lottery picks) have to worry about losing a game to Kennesaw State? With apologies to my WSOU mentee Ryan Henry who is a grad assistant in KSU's athletic communications department.

Once upon a time Dean Smith would regularly schedule road games in areas where his seniors played HS basketball. They famously played a road game in Binghamton for King Rice. Just this season, Duke played a game at Army so the military academy could honor Coach K for his service and coaching career at Army.

You gain nothing by beating those teams. Nothing
Sure you do. You get to go on a nice trip to San Francisco. These players have been in South Orange for months.

Team bonding. Fun. Travel. Win multiple games. Bonus points for player retention.

Have you ever been part of a serious sports team? Trips like that one are great. Glad you aren’t my coach!

Also do we think it's a coincidence that we just got a bunch of West Coast commits and played 2 games on the West Coast?
