I figured in another thread 17-14, 8-12.

For a program that was coming off a program-best 9 consecutive years .500+ in BE, we’re in the wilderness again. Lord knows we’ve been there before! 🙄

Hopefully we shock everyone.

I’m surprised we’re all counting NC state as a loss. We play a team with a new coach, an entire new roster, and play them before Thanksgiving? I think we should win.

I see the same 7 wins plus consolation games in Maui, but I have a feeling they won’t all be as easy as we would like.

I have us at 8-3 OOC and 7-13 in conference for 15-16 before the BET.

No offense, but I don’t see any easy wins. His teams always struggle in the out of conference and with 10 new players. I just don’t see it.

Should be 7-2 but will be a grind.
New year, new roster. We are not struggling early against those teams.

As the competition gets better than I can see issues. But not until mid Nov.

No easy wins. 5-4 is going to be tough. If we play anyone that has a bunch of kids who have been together and played as a team for 2 or more years we are in trouble. Hoops is all about teamwork. We have a bunch who just met let alone played together for any amount of time.

Every game will be an adventure no matter the opponent!

I mean, everyone here said "easy win" for all those OOC games last year too.

And I was criticized for saying that we have no idea about the team, players, how we would compete, and where in BE we would place.

At the end of the day our entire roster came from losing college programs where most of them were not even the best player. That is not generally a recipe for a successful season.

Foresight was off last year, but will be correct this year? Color me sceptical.

It's possible, but also not definite. Without the payroll in suspended animation next year, we'll have a better shot at retaining guys than we've had. That doesn't mean Seton Hall won't find some other way to shoot itself in the foot, but as of today, we'll be better positioned to retain guys than we were this past year.

Huh? We will lose 6 or more again and it will be a rebuild again for 26/27.
Apparently you don’t get it. There is no one year fix for SHU. it’s a combination of showing we can compete, then identifying guys we want to retain, then identifying who we want in the portal, then figuring out what our budget allows us to do. Who cares if we lose six guys as long as they are not the guys we want to keep.

Same coach, Seton Hall will struggle again. Tough to see more than 6 or 7 wins in the non-league portion of the schedule. Probably something like 4-16 or 5-15 in the league.

If we are going to be any good, then Halldan needs to be right -- we should have some easy wins. But last year we lost to Fordham, Hofstra and Monmouth (!) so I need to see it to believe it.

I said in another thread that I think our point guard play and big man play will improve, that our three point shooting will be the same as last year, and that our scoring is a question mark -- will Elijah be a better prophet than Isaiah? I think this season may be fun simply because we don't know how this team is going to play, or improve

I know until we actually see the players our opinions are mere conjecture. But despite no longer running the board I still have multiple insiders at the school. To a man they believe this squad will shock the Big East and even go so far as to say that if everything breaks right and the team stays away from key injuries the Pirates will fight for a middle of the pack finish in the league.

Based on that I just can't see us struggling early at home with the underbelly of the non conference schedule.

But history tells me we will struggle. Sha had two experienced guards in Richmond and Dawes and it wasn’t until he had the early season sit down, did they finally start to get it. His teams do not get off to strong starts.

I don't get it until I see actual change in the process of being able to retain talent we want to keep. The price to keep any quality players may be too steep for the money we have. The price this year may be way less than it will be next year. Seems like the NIL expense grows by leaps and bounds. Until I see different results I am going with my current thinking.

You be the judge. I don't see us having any issues with the underbelly of the OOC schedule other than last year.

Lost 14 OOC games in three years…two with an experienced team of Dawes, Richmond, Davis and Wusu that had played together. Is there one player on this team (Clark) who is in that class?

Pete, you keep changing the landscape. The question posed was how would this roster handle the very week OOC home games early.

In this thread it's been hinted that Sha's team do not get off to good starts. Not true other than this past year. Losing to comparable teams or better ones does not foreshadow losing or struggling to the six cupcake games above.

Saying Sha doesn't start off strong. Well his first year we were 9-1 and his second we were 4-0 out of the gate against teams similar to this year's schedule.

I have no issue with anyone disagreeing, but many of the facts given don't always answer up.

We should beat those cupcakes and I said seven wins OOC. I just don’t see them as easy wins.

Impossible to predict anything for a team of complete --at least to us-- unknowns. And with all due respect to Halldan, the opinions of program insiders carries little to no weight for me. Objectivity is not to be expected.

Your 2023 season above is from Willard's last season here. Sha has never been 9-1 at any point during his time at Seton Hall.

22-23: 6-4 OOC (Dre, KR, Dawes, Samuel, Ndefo)
23-24: 7-4 OOC (Dre, KR, Dawes, Bediako)
24-25: 5-6 OOC

Maybe we can finally put it together in the OOC. But history says we will struggle in the OOC.
Last season was really the outlier as we were simply a poor team (and yet we beat VCU). We've generally beaten the easy touches and lost to the better teams in our OOC.

In 23-24, we handled our worst opponents but lost to USC, Iowa, Baylor and RU. Only the RU could be considered a bad loss.

In 22-23, we lost to Siena on a neutral floor (where we beat Memphis) and lost to Iowa, Oklahoma and Kansas.

I'd expect we can handle those first five home games before we head to Maui. I think we'll win one in Maui but fear it will be Chaminade and I can see two wins sandwiched around a loss at Kansas State.

What can I say I’m an optimist. The Big East is not good after the top 4. The obligatory annual UCONN win.
Glad you are optimistic. I respect (often.... ha, ha.....) your pithy observations and analyses. With seven BE wins, I didn't think we would be that much improved over last year; even if the league will be weaker.

is New Haven D1??
Speaking of New Haven...... We have three games at historic Walsh: Wagner, Fairfield, Central Connecticut; yet we play upstart D-1 New Haven at the Rock? What is the thinking there? Imagine that one will really pack them in.
