Just a few weeks ago I had my best burger ever from a Durham food truck (think it was Bull City Street Food).

At Game in Louisville, Build your own burger.
Kangaroo, fried egg, bacon, goat cheese, siraccia mayo, on brioche bun.
My grandfathers. He mixed burger, bread crumbs, ketchup, garlic and onions, and cheese in a mix. It was world class and if I owned a burger joint, this recipe would make me millions.

Agreed, I rotate between the kangaroo and bison. Throw in their sweet potato fries and you have a winner.
And also keeping it local, when I lived in Lex, I thought Shamrocks had the best burgers.
Nice pics.
It appears a "Best Burger You've Ever Tasted" thread might have serious potential in the not-so-distant future.
Thanks! A few smaller chains in Austin, which began operations over the past two years, are of particular interest: Hat Creek Burgers and P. Terry's Burger Stand. Hat Creek offers $1 craft beers on draft every Thursday. Burgers are good, but very small.Probably not fair seeing as you have Whataburger, Dan's, Sandy's there in Austin. There's plenty of good Mom&Pop places up this way, only problem is some have an issue with seasoning, like none. Still, their burgers are pretty good and juicy. And several are only seasonal, so we're stuck with the FF or Red Robins of the world.
Butter is owned or ran by that Alex chick off FTV, right?
I can't stand that *****.
It tastes like heaven sprinkled with a few spices. The burger is extremely juicy cooked medium. Not gamey or dry at all. Honestly, if somebody stuck it in front of you and didn't tell you what meat it was, you would assume it's a lean beef.Kangaroo? That sounds extremely gamey and dry, what does that taste like?
Were you living in O'boro @25 years ago when Little T's Diner was there on 2nd St across from the soybean plant ? They were open for lunch only. Awesome burgers.Big Dipper in Owensboro, double cheeseburger through the garden. I don't know what they put in their burgers, but it's the bomb.

Copied these posts from the other thread.

Mighty Fine Burgers has been serving hamburgers and fries since at least 2009 and are operated by the same folks who own Rudy's BBQ. Pricing is more upscale. Great quality.
Top Notch on Burnet Road is my current local fave for non-gourmet burgers. They've been around since '71. My wife grew up on their fare.
I may hit up Dan's tomorrow for lunch. Nearest location is 3/4 mile north of our complex, within easy walking or cycling distance.
Great discussion so far. I'll have much more input in a few. Gotta get back to work.
First Whopper I had at about 8 years old.
The last time I stopped by Ferrell's in Hoptown they put Ketchup on the burgers unless you requested only mustard. When did that start happening? So I hear.
The best Ferrell's burgers are when the old fat lady at the grill smashes the meat wad with her arm pit.
I dont recall that one. I left O'boro in 86 when I went in the Navy, only to return for occasional visits.Oh yeah, we went there a lot, the damn burgers were the size of a pizza pan. Did you ever make it to Ruth and Bob's, the greasy spoon in a trailer off, 5th street I think.
The awesome power of suggestion. I'll ride over to Dan's on North Lamar near Koenig within the hour. Can't wait until tomorrow. Thanks!PTerry's is the only place I've never been. We moved from Austin to NY in 2011, I've heard good and bad about them. Hat Creek was fine, not a big fan of Mighty Fine, found it to be bland. Top Notch is outstanding, good charbroiled flavor and I'm a big fan of their Fried Chicken. Dan's remains our favorite, we hit one up every visit to Austin. Sandy's is real good, give it a shot whenever you're down that way, good frozen custard also.

Sandy's on Barton Springs = crazy good. On a group bike ride, I dined there once during summer 2013. Incredible burgers and custard available. Definitely heading back.
This is a great topic. Much more to come. Disclaimer: I'm a longtime Wendy's shareholder and still consider their offerings the best of the "Big 3" (McDonald's, Burger King, Wendy's) mass-market burgers. But mom and pop shops can definitely produce some most excellent creations.
@starchief5 brings up a good point. If I'm not mistaken, quality has devolved and seems problematic within the Big-3. Wendy's now offers smaller buns on singles, doubles and triples than 5 years ago.
I personally like Red Robin and dine there 2x yearly. More on that chain after lunch.
No. They used to be served with pickles, onions and mustard. Period. You may have whatever you want (or don't want) on them, learn how to order food.

Is this my dad?No, they're served however you like them -- just like at any restaurant.
Mine come with Cheese, Onions, and sometimes an egg. You can let the lady who takes your order know how you'd like your burger, and if she's worth any count, she'll ask you herself.
Try it, works every time. You can also choose to add fries, some chili, or your choice of drink if you're thirsty.
Have to agree about Dyers. We ate there the last time the Cats were in Memfuss. Reminded me of Steak-n-Shake. It was ok, but way below what I expected.
My favorite(s):
Burger Bar in Bristol, VA. Been there since 1942, and the last place where Hank Williams was seen alive. Named top burger in Virginia by Thrillist. http://www.theoriginalburgerbar.com/
Mid City Grill in Johnson City, TN. Open only from 5:00 PM - 5:00 AM on the weekend and 5:00 PM - 4:00 AM Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday. Named one of the top 10 burgers in Tennessee by somebody. Try the 1.5 lb. Full Nelson, or make it a double.....or triple. :flushed: http://www.mymidcity.com/
