Tough place to be a Cats fan. I lived in JC for a long time. My hatred for UT is strong! I was hoping somebody was going to say a Pal's burger. Pretty solid for fast food, but obviously not "best you've ever eaten" quality.

It's a tough gig being a UK fan here, and to top it off, many of these UT fans are also Dook basketball fans because they win and always have some white kids. You wouldn't believe how many times I've hear that statement. BTW, I love Pal's. It's nothing that's going to cause you to write home about it, but it's amazingly consistent in the quality of it, and seems like no matter how long the line is, they will have you through there in a flash, just like their motto.

:)

Honestly had a hard time eating most of it. Wife doesn't like clams and I was unaware I could get only haf, thought it was whole or nothing. Learned my lesson, but I enjoyed it.

What we had at Sally's the night before, wife could eat pie 7 days a week. The potato pizza on the left was interesting.

Don't worry! Bbdk will be around soon to give a lesson on ordering pizza too. :joy:

@Ron Mehico : My final thread hijack, I promise. Sorry. Just reliving a few old UK Watch Parties in Austin from years gone by.

@UpstateNYCat : 2 photos from our 2010 Watch Party at Bagpipes Pub on Burnet when our Cats annihilated Wake Forest leading up to the Sweet 16 during Coach Cal's first season. You might be in one of the pictures. Pat Riley is on the monitor in the second photo. Enjoy.

Me too. It was ugly. Darren was going off. Heck, we were all going off.

Remember slamming the table after about the 40th missed 3pt. attempt. Wife was none too pleased with me. That may have been the last time I attended any of those parties, later that year was when we decided we were moving to NY for the Wife's new job and I was preoccupied with selling the House and packing our stuff up.

I somewhat remember you mentioned that. My response may have been something like, "New York?!? What? Are you serious?". Can't remember exactly.

It's a small world. Darren's dad was my Guidance Counselor at Southern Jr. back in the 70s. And here I run into him in Austin of all places. I thought I remember Darren having some family/marital problems a few years back. Hope he got that all squared away, wife was as sweet as can be.

No. I'll tell you more later. His wife saved me at the 2009 kickoff picnic from a massive case of sunburn. I was fairly toasted. Really great lady. She told me, "get your sunscreen on or your legs are gonna burn". No longer together, from my understanding. He moved to Houston for another gig. If both happen to read this post, I just want to say, both are really wonderful folks.

Here's some pics from our 2015 SEC Kick-off Picnic from my post in the D-League. Lauren, who earned her BS in Chemistry from UK and MS from Yale, is now our chapter prez. She earned her PhD from Texas. She is really nice. Yeah, I still miss TX and Darren.

Ha, I was at that event. Do you go to the watch parties at Blackfin? If so I'm sure we've met.
No, I stopped a few years ago because I became very superstitious after a couple losses. I may try to come out again in a few weeks.

A little off the wall, but these two out of the way places make a pretty good burger as well, especially if you're on the road and need lunch.

Betty's in beautiful downtown Barlow, KY. Stopped there once on the way to Cape Girardeau for work and had a cheeseburger. No frills, but just a good, greasy burger fixed on a flat top with a grilled bun. Betty's also has fried chikin on Sunday and Wednesday that is supposed to be really good. We were there on a Tuesday, and from where we were sitting I could see them preparing to brine the chikin in 5 gallon buckets. If you are taking the time to brine your chikin, I'd guess the outcome is going to be really good.

Bluegrass Restaurant in La Center, KY. Same type of burger as Betty's, with quite a few more menu options, and some damn good homemade desserts, one of which I took back home with me. Like with Betty's, if you find yourself out on US 60 and need something to eat, this place will hit the spot.

If any of you transplanted Kentuckians in Texas are ever down in SA, hit up Whiskey Cake over by La Cantera Shopping Mall, Fiesta Texas. No pics, unfortunately, but the burgers were outstanding. Also their duck wings and namesake, whiskey cake, were spot on. I linked their Yelp page for y'all to check out.

Nice, I'm in SA all the time for work. I'll have to check it out.

Muscles and Burger Bar in Louisville. The CEO burger with the big potatoe slice fries with the truffle oil sauce.
I'm seriously gonna try visiting the place this coming April. I hear they also offer a decent craft beer selection on draft.

I had an Ollie burger from ollies trolley today. With some seasoned fries. Certainly not gourmet but unique and good nonetheless.
