Duncan Powell fouled former Prov forward Bruce Hopkins really hard in the head. A fight ensued. 6 players ejected. Yikes

Powell should be suspended rest of the year.

English has to be fired.

PC was already down with Edwards and Floyd out. Then that mess knocks out Sellers and Powell with them leading by 1.

Jones ejected later.

What a **** show. Donors get their NIL money back? Could’ve just thrown it out a window.

This felt like the end of a long decline of the program that’s started when Cooley checked out around Tournament time to go to Gtown. Ever since then it’s been one thing after another: Hiring Kim English, Hopkins getting hurt, missing the tournament in ‘24. Hopkins sitting out most of the next season while taking NIL money, Hopkins transferring to SJU, more losing this year, and this felt like the bottoming out. Time for PC to go back to the drawing board.

Per the NYPost


Powell, who appeared to throw a punch at St John’s Dillon Mitchell after the hard foul, was ejected from the game.

Providence’s Jaylin Sellers was also ejected.

The Red Storm’s Mitchell, Kelvin Odih, Ruben Prey and Lefteris Liotopoulous were tossed for their roles in the brawl.

And they purposely tried to injure Zuby with a non basketball shove to back play when game was over. Resulting in another ejection.

English should be canned. He lost control of his team and could have seriously injured players.

very low class display by a program in shambles.

Those refs were allowing a very physical game prior to the melee. St. John's, the more physical team, was getting the benefit of those swallowed whistles in a big way. Perhaps it led to frustration for Providence.

I don't like when there's too tight a whistle but in a very physical game you can keep order by actually calling clear fouls. This officiating crew did not, even after the fight! A lot of the blame for the fracas should be laid at their feet. I hope the conference will look at this.

“Purposely tried to injure” is overstating it, of course. It was a frustration foul, and he deserved the ejection, but don’t get carried away like you always do.

Just saw the YouTube mini clip. That dude gets a flagrant 2 for the dirty foul, then throws a cheap shot right hand at some other player (think it was Mitchell), and then is still on the court forever waiving his hands to the crowd who is cheering him and chanting his name. Wild stuff.

Have think with the punch afterwards he’s going to be suspended for a while. That’s way worse than the foul.

Great question - donors get their NIL money back? They should but will never happen.

Yea, Val will talk to the refs and now every ticky tack foul will be called.

I don’t really agree with the letting them play too much part. Breeding was even one of the refs, so that pokes a hole in the argument. There was just no flow to the game through the first half. Poor shooting, sloppy play by both sides. The sloppiness was dictating things, not really the whistle.

Let’s not overlook the conduct of the PC student section, of which several were ejected. Never a good look to be shown on TV chugging beers at noon. Maybe there’s something to be said for having a low turnout.

I think there is something to be said for having class. Every fan base has wackos. Every single one. And college kids do dumb stuff - we all did at that age. What I don’t get is the level of vitriol. They have a great, passionate fan base. But it goes to another level sometimes, almost akin to the Eagles in football. I’m a diehard of 4 sports teams, 3 professional and obviously 1 college. I’m loud at games, but try to remember I don’t need my son or parents to see me acting like a complete and utter moron Andrea Hurley said in an interview she won’t go there anymore because she was spit on - and she sits in the expensive seats!!!
