I am glad this was posted. I have attended games since 1971 and have only missed 4 home games at the RAC since it opened. The student section with the Riot Squad are outstanding. I feel that it is an injustice to our students that about 200 seats are lost to possible recruits for football once or twice a year. I saw this yesterday and that entire section did LITTLE OR NO CHEERING FOR RU. Schiano is living off the success of our basketball team. The football team must hold up their part of the bargain. Basketball recruits go to football games for a visit and we are usually taken to the wood shed. We must win at least half of our BIG Ten games instead of getting destroyed. Schiano is making $ 4 million dollars a year and he coached at RU I think for 11 years in his first go around, than two years for the NFL and several years at Ohio State. He supposedly knows every high school in the state so he should be getting so many better recruits. It makes me upset to see so many football recruits sitting in the student section and sitting on their hands and we will most likely only get a couple of these kids to come to RU. It is a travesty. The football team was only 1-8 in BIG TEN games this past season and almost every game was a blow out. The team really needs to step it up already. That is my opinion!

No students were turned away. If the recruits weren’t there the upper corners of the student bleachers would have been empty. The recruits actually made it look more full. Because even with that, the upper corner behind the band was empty the entire first half. Students were still not back fully, and even then they haven’t shown up in as big numbers this year for some reason as in the past

Did the school charge more this year for tickets?

Can you show proof that any student was turned away? My guess is you have preferred those seats were empty since the students are still on break rather than football recruits sit in them.

BTW is it Greg's fault that there is no recruiting area in the RAC like they have at SHI? And what about the years that Greg did this in 1.0 when the basketball team was getting blown out?

When you are on an official visit as a recruit for one sport and are attending another sports game, you should always actively root for the home team.
It was an unofficial visit. Just because you are visiting a school does not mean you have a rooting interest for the basketball program.

you are a good fan, no doubt....

but I disagree here....I don't think any students were turned away..... if they were, I would then agree to an extent.... I saw empty seats behind the band during the game

we secured the verbal of a 4 star football recruit, after his visit to the RAC..... maybe, just maybe, it helped a bit, with his overall visit, his experience

I will always hate that a bunch of entitled high school athletes and their families are way too cool to cheer at one of the best home venues in college basketball. There was barely a clap by any of them yesterday as they spent the game glued to their phones.

I am an avid follower of both RU hoops and Football, with season tix to both for 30 years. But, for that entire time I have absolutely loathed when football recruits take up seats in the student section Of the RAC.

1. The ROI on giving these seats to recruits is perceived as very low right now - if the team were winning and/or landing some 4* regularly it wouldn’t be an issue.
2. Maybe the renovation will take care of this issue with more seating

RU fans: “Don’t ever change a single thing about the RAC.”

Also RU fans: “I can’t stand the disinterested football recruits taking up our student section. Bad Schiano-man!”

Where would you have us put them?

Even when we already have the best home court advantage in the country people still complain lol (and don’t want football to try to do what it can to improve?)

Maybe the fanbase is drawing their line in the sand with these comments. Something we will all keep an eye on I’m sure as time goes on.

we should ask, does the football section take away from the atmosphere, and does it deny entry to students

that is all that matters..... as far as the atmosphere, it seemed great, could not be better.....so just the second question remains...IMO

edit:.... this particular game was well placed for it because there might have been less students available to go, due to no classes yet

Consistently winning football games against sub-bar or mediocre BIG10 opponents and maybe an upset every other year would do way more wonders for the Football program than taking them to a basketball game.

If this game was a week later when school was in session and football recruits took up 25% of the section taking away seats from students it would be real lame.

I was most bothered by the midget football team in the student section. There were few little twerps yelling right in the middle of Rutgers free throws. Those kids need to be sent up to the 300s.

I feel like some version of this thread pops up every season.
It does because there are some real lame parts of our fanbase. I feel like I remember this same complaint being lobbied by people when were getting blown out under Eddie Jordan. When the RAC was half full, people still bitched about a few rows of seats being given to other teams in the athletic department, btw it's not just Football who gets these tickets.

The picture provided by OP- obvious well before the game- did that section fill up with recruits and players or did it stay empty? I know when we were doing visits- your day is packed full and I believe both at RU and at GaTech- recruits and families didn't get to seats until just after tipoff

There's a great Round Table article just up about the Jr. day with a ton of comments from recruits about the game. (for those saying it is worthless cause they don't care).

I dont think the students have done that good of a job this season...there I said it, not compared to to 2020 or 2022 and quite frankly not even up to Waters or Rice years

Riot Squad very good dont get me wrong. It does seem like the loud music, inflatables seem to take more precedence over cheering and crowd noise

How about, the school knew what it was doing, scheduling the football section when they knew it would not fill up with students
You could look at it like that
Let’s give them credit for once

I trust you don't have premium. I asked the guys to post it over here so folks could see the comments direct from those kids on their phones. There's inside info so not likely to happen.
I would have the same concerns had I not read the comments from these recruits.

Put it this way. We need to do everything within Universities power to get these recruits. This is a price we need to pay for football and basketball. We dont get the recruits, we will see more empty seats for students and everyone else...

Maybe limit amount of tickets per game.

200 seats during mid-winter break when there were open seats for one game? Come on? Meanwhile, you have the Administration/B1G giving away an entire home game, but Schiano is evil.

There has been a few times that my son could not get a student ticket in the week before a game. He’s in the pep band and was buying for his girlfriend hence waiting until the week of the game - but still student seats were no longer available (I believe it was for Maryland, SHU and Indiana). Of course they can always buy on secondary market and squeeze into the student section.

I’m pretty sure the reason the student section behind the band seems less filled is because the middle section is overfilled.

In the other thread about the team losing at home, did anyone blame HC Schiano?

Is it his fault for the team not winning?
Whats our record when we have football recruits at the game?
