Ceiling: 7-5
Floor: 4-8
Expect: 5-7/6-6 (right on the cusp - can't make a call, but I know 6-6 would obviously be huge)

Didnt HC Schiano say the opposite when he took over? That the team wasn't a dumpster fire that had to totally rebuilt?

Now after 3 years, all of a sudden he back tracks and says "it actually was really bad. I need more time"?

Regardless, this sounds awful like HC Ash taking over and "trashing" the team that got everyone so upset. I'm sure people will find some way to justify HC Schiano saying it.

Nope - not at all. I love Pike but didn’t love at all the year he said everything was perfect in the pre season pressers and then we went on to lose to Lafayette in game 3 and squeaked by Lehigh game 1.

Love him or hate him, Schiano has never even brushed upon this stratosphere. What your suggesting just isn’t true. No coach is going to come out and say their current roster stinks. That’d just be stupid as they would totally lose the team. But in those early years, he made it pretty darn clear that the fan base needed to be patient. We’re young. We lack depth. Etc. closest thing he said to what your alleging is - we look forward to seeing where we stack up…. That is quite a reach to get to what your suggesting - “we’re not a dumpster fire. We’re going to surprise people with where we are and don’t need to rebuilt”.

I hope I am very wrong. Until I know we have a pulse on offense, this season will be one game at a time. I hope to see the offense grow and get better with each game. We haven't seen that in years.

I just wanted to bring these predictions to the forefront. Some of you were on point in your assessment. Some of you had absolutely no faith. Check out the staff predictions. I STILL think we have a minimum 2 more wins this year (including the bowl game). Somebody is giving up something!

8-4/4-8/6-6 here
I'm a high ceiling/floor kind of fan. Can't see the floor being any lower, but who knows. My ceiling is a bit high,.
What kind of egomaniacal loser quotes themselves? Hi @Plum Street !

Ha... I just looked up this old thread to necro it... but you smart people beat me to it. It is a real shame that many of the haters chose to not participate. **note: we are currently surpassed my prediction (5-7) and 1-win away from my ceiling (7-5).

7-5 gives us a winning season regardless of the bowl game outcome. 8-4 is not impossible and would be impressive .
This team is so together and high spirited, they deserve the good times.

Stupid comment as usual. Do we have a functioning offense? D'uh.
Doubling down on stupidity I see. Nothing "stupid" about my post - was simply stating a fact that you had the worst preseason prediction in this thread (or tied for it). And wtf does the offense have to do with predictions or our record? We're 6-2 and going to a bowl. Just man up and own your wrongness and get back on the Schiano bandwagon.

Come on.. he has a point. And I think we all were suspicious of the offense. I expected some improvement based solely upon addition by subtraction (of former OC). I expected Brown to be new OC's star.. did not foresee Monangai making such strides after he seemed to take a step back last year. I am not sure if last year's Brown (before injury) could top what Monangai has done. I hope I get to see Brown at top form alongside Monangai.

We still need Wimsatt to hit certain throws regularly. Once that happens.. with the current running game (including Gavin himself).. look out. It won't be just a "functioning offense".. it will be a great offense. We still need certain things to compete with teh big three... but everyone else is within spitting distance. And next year.. maybe there are 5-6 teams that would not be within reach except for epic underdog upsets.

But we DO have a functioning offense. If he had also predicted we would not.. then, maybe you have something.

Stupid was a kind word. Your lack of reading comprehension paints all engineers in a bad light. Shame on you.

Well put and logical. Perhaps he will learn from your reply? Read, think, then post. LOL!

Did he think he owed you some insulting post from something in another thread? I went and found this old thread (that had already been brought back up without my noticing) because of some negative comments in other more recent threads.. "people" (they could be real living trolls) minimizing the team's season and Wimsatt's great running game. I expected to find those same people predicting doom for Rutgers and Schiano.. but I was disappointed to find they did not bother making predictions. Hmmm... nah.. too much work for no good purpose to go back to the game by game predictions.

Tripling down now? My reading comprehension is just fine - it's your thinking and writing that are what make you an embarrassment. Your preseason prediction said, "Until proven that we have a functioning offense, this season is 3-4 wins at best."

By simple logic, since we're well beyond 3-4 wins, that clearly means, as per your prediction post, that we must have a functioning offense. Yet here was your post from 2 weeks ago, which clearly states that we do not have a functioning offense. Your posts in this thread after the IU game are simply a weak attempt to weasel out of this one. Just take the L.

Decade and counting without a D1 functioning offense.

Even worse - he said we didn't have a functioning offense 2 weeks ago, as per the other post I just made, clearly not having seen how much the offense had improved, despite the losses to UM and WI, where we were competitive for much of each game and the offense played decently for stretches (257 and 275 yards in each game, respectively, which is not fantastic, but is respectable), but we just made too many mistakes. Yes, our offense has significant room for improvement, but has already made significant improvements vs. past years.

Probably. He's a sensitive soul and takes everything personal. I'm sure he jumped into the thread looking for an A'HA to crow about. Sadly for him, he didn't read the post properly. Hopefully he will learn a valuable lesson.

We do have a functioning offense. Your prediction in the prediction thread was that we would not have a functioning offense, and as a result the ceiling was 3-4 wins. That's how predictions work. So your prediction was very wrong.
Nice try, words matter:

So weird posters have reading comprehension issues with this thread. I caveated my prediction the same way. I am very happy I was wrong. We do have a functioning offense (thanks to Flaherty). So glad to have him here. The rest is still a WIP but improving game by game. My wish for the rest of the season is to continue to get better and be competitive. One more win would be very nice (especially if PSU).

Some folks don't seem to understand simple words in the English language (or choose to ignore them). Fascinating to watch!

I would have predicted 69 wins this season. So I'm kind of sorry I didn't participate.

They have 6 wins so far. Michigan State was an unknown going into the season; if they're good this year they're probably a loss and the team is 5 and 3; instead they're a dumpster fire. IMO Iowa and Maryland are the games which likely show if the team is simply good at beating weak opponents reliably--all of the wins so far are against teams ranked 68th or lower--or capable of beating teams a tier below Top 25. Maryland is so inconsistent and schizophrenic they're the best chance at another win. A win over Iowa at Iowa, which is a very hard place to play when Iowa is doing well--they give Penn State and even Ohio State a very hard time--is a much bigger achievement to my mind.

Isn't it nice to know that unless something crazy happens- you all will have such a higher floor next year. No more 2/3 win floors for a while

Somehow...we have the 5th highest scoring team in the entire conference. And if anyone wants to say- well, how about ST's that has helped. next closest is 2 pts per game behind us and all the rest are almost a TD a game behind us.
Just wanted to point this out. Our offense- has been in the upper half and almost upper 3rd of the B1G...

I still want it to improve because if GW stays on his path and was a Sr right now with everything else the same- we may damn well be elite and in talks of a playoff...kid is 19 and we are number 5 in scoring.

Hmmm.. it could easily be taken as UNTIL meaning we do not now have one. While in preseason no one knew if we would have one, the common consensus was that it literally could not be any worse.

So, yeah, I can see hammering you on that now.

IF.. IF was a better choice than UNTIL. UNTIL could very well mean you don't think we'll have one this year.
