Rogue One is directed by Gareth Edwards (Godzilla) and will star Felicity Jones. It centers around the Rebels stealing the plans for the first Death Star.

Rian Johnson (Looper, Breaking Bad) is writing (actually has written, the script is done) and directing VIII. Benicio del Toro will be joining the cast as a villain.

Colin Trevorrow (Jurassic World) is directing IX. It's a little up in the air at this point who is writing (it could be Johnson).

Abrams will executive produce.
Any word on who is directing the Han Solo origin which will be the 2nd offshoot movie? I read the other day that basically every single white 20-35 year old male actor in the world has expressed interest in the part. They had 500 agents submitting 5000 or so actors portfolios.

Man, I was going to go to a 2:45 show figuring I'd have no problem walking in. I looked online a little before 1:00 to double check the time and it was already sold out. So I bought a ticket online to a 3:30 show.

Christopher Miller and Phil Lord (Lego Movie) will be directing. Lawrence Kasdan and his son Jon are writing it.

Apparently Rami Malek (Mr. Robot) is one of many who has read for the part, which intrigues me.

Star Wars broke the Tuesday record with 37 million $.

And in the flashback scene the arm was the alien dealer guy and it was also his voice saying stay here girl

But it's also possible he knew her mother. He offered to pay her instead of just taking it out right. and then said to take the droid from her so it's possible he was protecting her from the first order finding her. Also notice the guys just tried to take the droid instead of having weapons trying to hurt her.

In Rey's flashback to her abandonment, she's being dragged away by an arm that looks an awful lot like the junkyard dealer/owner. That dealer was apparently a supporter of the First Order as evidenced by his attempt at turning BB8 over to the FO.

If Rey was abandoned by Luke (or Han/Leia), why would they leave her with a guy that obviously hadn't been vetted very well?

If she had been marooned there by Kylo Ren, though, it would make perfect sense.

Perhaps this also would explain why a guy important enough to have the missing piece to Luke's map was on the same planet as Rey without (apparently) knowing it.
Did the dealer try and turn over to FO? Thought he just wanted the droid.

Maybe the flashback is something that happend post drop off, like slavery or something like that, or got from the owner of the MF (Dukan?)(the guy who first stole it on Jakku)

Just dont think Kylo Ren dropping her off would make sense. Probably just the dude was on the planet, like C3PO and R2 on tattoine, the force was calling.

I also love the shot of the Knights of ren with all the fallen Jedi laying on the ground With the rain and it being dark it visually paints the message to weep because all hope is gone

I'm not intelligent enough to contribute any theories but I am intelligent enough to appreciate what's been posted here so far. Great stuff guys. Any recommendations on a Star Wars forum that has similar discussions? I know there likely to be hundreds but didn't know if there was one or two that were better than the rest.

Also, based on The Force Awakens, I'm hoping they stretch out Episodes VIII and IX to be close to 3 hours. Just seems like there are so many directions they can go here that I would be bummed if they had to squeeze into two 2 hour, 15 minute-ish movies.

I used to post of theforce.net back in the day. I glance at it every now and then, but I stayed away for the most part to avoid spoilers. The forums are still real active it seems, but the site isn't nearly as good as it used to be.

I'd be surprised if VIII or IX is any longer than the others. Apparently VII had about 20 minutes cut out.

I went to the 10 AM showing this morning and there had to be at least 50 people there (1/3 full). I thought it was going to be empty.

Yep. I'm seeing it again this weekend. I guess this movie hit a soft spot with the fans. We'll watch it like teen girls wanting to see Leo in Titanic.

I don't know how JJ did it but he definitely hit the global G spot. I've been trying to find it for years, maybe I should try thinner women

I didn't care for the feminism, imo.

You don't like Rey? Or are you like me and was wanting a good hearted male character to be force sensitive just so us guys can relate a little better?

I mean I really want Fin and Poe to both realize they are force sensitive, they find two others on their adventures and at the end of 9, Rey and them start training together to form a Jedi team.

Agree about the movie becoming better and better the more you think about it.

The scene when Rey finally picks up the light saber.....holy cow. That music, the suspense, the sense of destiny. Very overwhelming.

I plan on seeing it for the third time this coming Saturday. Just so, so good on the big screen.

It was better the second time. First time was catching up on 10 years of waiting, and felt like drinking out of a fire hydrant - so much coming at you that you could only take in so much and missed a lot. Second time I caught a lot more info and able to figure a few things out. Would love to have a DVD and play frame by frame the vision by Rey - happened so fast and so much intel from that brief part of the movie.

Something tells me that in the end all of the Skywalkers will be on the same side fighting evil. People say Kylo is too far gone, but Anakin wiped out all of the younglings in Revenge of the Sith, helped axe Mace Windu, tried to kill Obi Wan in 3 and did so in 4. The whole saga is a huge allegory showing how good and evil exist in everyone, and that there is always a battle between the two. It also shows no matter how far you have gone to the wrong side you can always come back and be forgiven.

I was under the assumption that star wars is all about how family is just disappointing and will always let you down.

Anakin wasn't too far gone but if he had lived he would have had to answer for his crimes. I imagine Ren would too.

Big fan of Rey. Having a female lead Jedi kick *** is sexy.

Going again to the 930 showing in a bit with my brothers. I guess I better get there early. Where I go in Huntsville has reserve seating which is incredible for big ticket movies.

8.5/10 would see again. Only "negatives" imo were it was too funny and a bit too fast paced. Really wish they would have lingered on shots showing the expanse of buildings and whatnot, as well as really showing the struggle and time from getting point A to point B.

May have already been answered, but Rey just being able to pick up the force with no training and taking it to the point of beating a force user trained by Luke also seemed odd.

Overall it felt like a summer action blockbuster, more so than a Star Wars movie, but that ain't necessarily a bad thing

Agreed with the too funny at times and the overall sentiment of being a good movie.

Disney infinite basically gave it away, In it kylo ren says to Rey " face me, cousin". So unless they change their minds last minute for episode 8, Rey is Luke's daughter.

Also After more thought I think UKisgood might be on to something with felicity jones .... If she survives rogue one then she might just be Rey's momma

Never mind about Disney infinity. It was debunked to say face me , curses.

$38.1M Wednesday. Puts it at 363.5 domestic. That puts it at 29th all time and it will pass Episode III today to make it the 3rd highest grossing Star Wars film.

Rogue one will end with Felicity Jones' character handing off the plans to Leia and R2 and before she departs the ship she says, "at least now we have a ray of hope" to Leia ....... 6 months later in episode 8 you find out that it was not only referencing a new hope but also Rey as in her daughter........

It would be pretty cool right?

Greg Grunberg on Abrams' reaction to Johnson's script...

“He read it and said something he never, ever says. He said: ‘It’s so good, I wish I were making it. He may have said something one time on ‘Lost,’ with Damon [Lindelof, the co-creator], but I never hear him express regret like that.”

http://screenrant.com/star-wars-8-script-abrams-johnson/
I still wish Kasdan would've stuck around for VIII, but whatevs
