Bless her heart I thought Leia looked like she had a few to many drinks in most of her scenes.

Didn't think the Leia/Han stuff was that bad, of course it was a lot smoother when they were younger.

My initial thought was Rey was Ben's little sister but I think that may have a garnered a different reaction from Han and Leia especially if they thought Ben killed her.

40 million for a monday .. this movie ...man alive.

As long as weather cooperates 2 years from now... they should just movie episodes 8 and 9 to December. While they most likely won't make the same money, it sure won't be too far off.

No, no...let's just wait a year and a half instead of two years...

I didn't think $40M Monday was even possible. It needs about $22M from Tuesday to pass Empire and Clones' totals. I actually thought that'd be a good 2nd Friday number. I can't begin to guess what it will do Christmas weekend.

You know, I think they could go the Kenobi route since they used the McGregor and Guiness voices talking to her.

EDIT: My bad, you meant Ben Solo. I still wonder about the Kenobi route. I just have a hard time her being a Solo because Han seemed to genuinely not know who she was.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens is now the fastest film to make $300 million

Star Wars: The Force Awakens is breaking every record it can at the box office this week. The Hollywood Reporter writes that the film has pulled in north of $300 million in the five days since its debut in North America. That's the fastest any movie has reached that milestone in cinema history, shattering the previous eight-day record set by Jurassic World earlier this year.

That isn't the only record Episode VII broke in the last few days. Numbers came in this morning showing the film earned $40.1 million on Monday, crushing the previous record set by Spider-Man 2, which earned $27.7 million on its first Monday in theaters. And that's after making the biggest global debut ever, earning $528 million over the weekend. At this point, there's really no stopping this juggernaut from hoovering up what's left of the world's money.

What if she is Ezra's child? I'd still bet 100$ we find out she is Luke's daughter within the first 15 minutes or so of episode 8 like how quickly they let us know Kylo Ren was Han's son in this one.

I'm confused and I can't find a definitive answer did the Starkiller blow up Coruscant?

I don't think so. They said in the movie that Starkiller destroyed the Hosnian system, which doesn't include Coruscant. The New Republic, Senate, and stellar fleet were headquartered on Hosnian Prime for unspecified reasons.

Ah I missed where they said it was. I did just find that the New Republic rotates capitals every few years I guess for the same reason the US elects new Presidents.

Also why the Resistance is called that when it's part of the Republic was confusing too. Evidently The First Order has systems outside the control of the Republic and the Resistance is made up of rebels in those systems backed by Republic aid. That really wasn't made clear in the movie.

I don't think enough people watch Rebels to go there.

Watching A New Hope tonight.

Finn's ID number? FN-2187
Leia's cell number on the Death Star? 2187 on cell block AA23

I kept looking out for a 1138, but I don't think there is one. There is a Wilhelm scream when Poe and Finn are escaping in the TIE fighter.

Correct. Cannot be a Kenobi since he had been dead 20 years+ before her birth. She is either Han and Leia's or Luke's - either way would make her a Skywalker which is the key component to the stories.

Not sure why Rey being Luke's isn't obvious? I guess because Jeri's aren't supposed to mate?

It's just a guess but I'd say that the republic was promoting peace and the resistance was formed but was like a special ops team that the republic would deny claim to

Just what I got from a few lines in the movie from hux and kylo ren

What? People do remember Dooku telling Anakin that the republic c was ran by the dark side right? And that by defending the republic the Jedi were defending the dark side, basically.

Therefore the ones smart enough to realize then went against that movement and b came the resistance.........in turn the first order happened because they were the first to defend the dark republic.

Or at least that's how I took it, may be wrong but I somehow came to grips with that.

any of you guys read aftermath? Chubby pilot guy who played Matt on heroes was timmin Wexley, the kid from aftermath. He did really well upgrading the battle droids AI so I think it would be cool if they used that in one of the next two movies to help battle the first order

the empire and now first order were from the republic. This is the new republic so it's a completely different group

Maybe the Jedi defending the dark times republic is how Snoke got to Ben Solo but the resistance was specifically formed to fight the first order.

What's the Star Wars related movie coming out in between now and episode 8 and who is directing it? I assume Abrams is signed on for 8 and 9?

I read an interesting article (wish i could find the link) on the differences in the movie vs. the novel adaptation. In the book the starkiller base sends a huge "energy ball" through sub-hyperspace so it disappears shortly after it leaves the base and then reappears in the targeted system. Then it collides with that system's star making it go supernova and wiping out all planets in the system.

That's what they were saying about the base for almost a year now but I guess they changed their minds for some reason. I like the idea of it destroying the star better

That is the Old Republic which became the Empire which is now the First Order. A New Republic was set up after the Emperor died. I thought that was obvious. The people still loyal to the Empire made the First Order and took control over some systems. The Republic probably from decades of trying to over throw the Empire was weary of war and instead of taking on the First Order out right backed a Resistance based in First Order territory. Which seems to be a mistake because if they fought them outright they may have stopped them from blowing the Republic to hell.

I'm interested to see if any of the Republic is intact to still run the galaxy or if this gives the First Order free path to attempt to set up a new Empire.

I think that is what I explained as well, maybe not.

Also it had a lot to do with Palpatine leading the republic as a dark lord. Which is crazy he baited both Vader and the princess to believe in him.

Rogue One is directed by Gareth Edwards (Godzilla) and will star Felicity Jones. It centers around the Rebels stealing the plans for the first Death Star.

Rian Johnson (Looper, Breaking Bad) is writing (actually has written, the script is done) and directing VIII. Benicio del Toro will be joining the cast as a villain.

Colin Trevorrow (Jurassic World) is directing IX. It's a little up in the air at this point who is writing (it could be Johnson).

Abrams will executive produce.

In Rey's flashback to her abandonment, she's being dragged away by an arm that looks an awful lot like the junkyard dealer/owner. That dealer was apparently a supporter of the First Order as evidenced by his attempt at turning BB8 over to the FO.

If Rey was abandoned by Luke (or Han/Leia), why would they leave her with a guy that obviously hadn't been vetted very well?

If she had been marooned there by Kylo Ren, though, it would make perfect sense.

Perhaps this also would explain why a guy important enough to have the missing piece to Luke's map was on the same planet as Rey without (apparently) knowing it.

What about if Leia was pregnant with Rey when Han left and he never knew about her? Ben would not know either so maybe Leia hid her away hoping he would never find her.

I kind of assumed the rebel alliance from the original trilogy had set up the old Republic to rule in place of the Emperor. Somewhere along the line the remnants of the Emperor's army had gotten together and became the First Order and began seizing control of the Republic and the Resistance was the soldiers and generals of the old rebel alliance teaming up to resist the first order and try to stop them from controlling the Republic again.

It's possible, but I don't know if there's a big enough age gap between Rey and Ben. Driver is about 10 years older than Ridley. Han didn't leave Leia until Ben turned to the dark side and Luke disappeared. Unless this happened when Ben was like 14, it's tough to fit. Rey was about five I'd say when she was left on Jakku.
