In this Japanese trailer, it's "I will fulfill our destiny. I will finish what you started". Why would it be "our" destiny unless it's Luke's voice speaking? It could very well be an echo of Vader's admonition to Luke and his prediction in Episode V about how Luke "must fulfill [Luke's] destiny and rule the galaxy as father and son".

This whole theory is bunk. It just doesn't make any sense seeing what we've actually seen from the trailers and the promotional stuff.

I still think that Kylo is a Skywalker descendent and see's Vader as the "real" person and not Anakin Skywalker.

Was getting ready to post it until I saw you beat me to it. We basically see the storm troopers destroy Rae's village looking for Fin, right?

I think the predictions that this is the same movie as IV are looking to be more accurate than I originally thought. Could be wrong but I'm leaning that way.

So I've been reading this Darth Jar Jar **** for the past 2 hours . . . what in the world!

George Lucas is either a genius who made a character so viscerally fourth wall breaking hateable, that he had to rewrite the trilogy because it could have alienated the entire Star Wars fanbase . . . or Jar Jar was just the worst, most pointless character in the history of film. There is no in between. I want it to be true.

Yeah, she's Luke's daughter. The promotional material keeps hinting at that ("waiting for my family to come back", Luke's line in the first trailer about the Force being strong in his family, etc) and putting Rey up front in a lot of the marketing thus far just adds to that.

I keep thinking back to what Kathleen Kennedy said about how the core Star Wars films were about the Skywalker family saga and Abrams is obviously going for a nostalgia vibe in a lot of ways.

I just don't get why Han would have to tell her the stories were true about the Jedi and Sith if she was Luke's or even Han's daughter..... was she taken at birth? Because you'd think those stories would be told as fact by her parents at an early age.

Something terrible happens sometime after RoTJ. Luke goes/forced into exile. Daughter hidden on remote planet for safety.

BTW here's the translation from the Japanese trailer that someone translated:
The first chapter of a new Star Wars trilogy. This is the story of Rey, a lonesome heroine who is waiting for her family; with the power of the Force, she begins a new tale of "family love and loss". Antagonizing her is Kylo Ren, a villain who manipulates a cross-shaped light saber. A new legend begins here!

Pretty much, right? Yeah, Rae is most certainly going to be the "chosen one/hero" in this story, making this a new Hunger Games type thing I bet. It's becoming more obvious in every trailer and poster.

Super cool. Picked up a BB-8 mini model at Disneyland last night for the man cave. Oldest got a Kylo Renn and Finn action figures. Pretty awesome.

I cannot imagine how much freaking cash this is going to make off of merchandise alone.

I picked up the BB-8 Pop toy at Wizard World Louisville last week which I have on my desk. Yes, the money Disney is going to make is going to make that $4 billion look like a steal.

I think it's more indicative of the rumor that
he only makes a cameo at the very end of the film.

i believe it is to achieve the exact thing that you are asking, and that is to get people asking, speculating, water cooler shish. by leaving him out of the promotional stuff, it has done exactly what JJ Abrams wanted, to get people speculating everything under the sun about what his role is or isn't. there are a couple of other big characters whose purpose in the film are being left out of the promotional stuff as well: general Hux, supreme leader Snoke (believed to be to baddie behind kylo ren pulling the strings perhaps), Maz, the one doing the narration of latest trailer. all are characters we know little to nothing about their roles in the movie as well. so who is Luke Skywalker in the TFA? i believe it is correct he will have very little screen time, perhaps a flashback and the appearance in the final act, but what is his purpose? i give JJ props in his marketing strategy, he has everyone guessing just about everything.

I think this movie 100% revolves around the search to find Luke. Rey is Han and Leia's daughter. And Kylo Ren is their son.

More I see, looks like Han and Leia had their kids hidden. Looks like Han is picking up his daughter because of her genes, force, maybe she's been discovered or they need her now. But that seems focus

So basically the Ewok Village celebration was for naught. Disappointing. Blow up a 2nd Death Star, destroy the Emperor, and it comes back???

There's only been two trailers (plus an international trailer), which is a real small number for a blockbuster film these days. The rest are tv spots, which are targeted to more of the general audience as opposed to the fans. For example, the TV spot last night aired on ABC during shows that has a demographic that probably doesn't have a great overlap with Star Wars.

I do think the editing in the second tv spot was a little off. Typically these are done by a 3rd party. The studio sends approved footage that can be cut together. This is usually the case, but not always.

I don't think it's that. Based on the interviews from Abrams and Kasdan they're more taking the route of "What if all those Nazi's who escaped to Argentina after World War II founded a redoubt for the Reich and kept on fighting?" A lot of the canon material coming out basically is hinting that there was a New Republic founded and decided to not fight anymore against the "First Order" and basically ceded to them whatever territory they had control over.
