What is the Millenium Falcon known for? Smuggling. Probably a good chance Rey was smuggled out on it and taken to Jakku by whoever took her there.

Also, she seems to know a lot about a lot of things for someone loving on a remote planet - the MF making the Kessel Run in 12 parsecs, Luke Skywalker, telling Kylo about Vader when she had never seen nor heard of him...
True, but it's also lore of the Galaxy. She knew solo as a smuggler, not alliance general. While it could be true, just seems most likely as a scavenger, the smuggling aspect would be legend among that crowd.

Also, the score is awesome. Rey's song, been stuck in my head for a week.

She's obviously been trained by the deceptive jar jar and this will all come to light eventually. If Luke's seed doesn't kill him then Star Wars is ********.

Yeah, I've been trying to find a guitar tab for it. I did find some sheet music so I may try to tab it myself from that, although that's not something I'm good at.

The ship that left Rey on Jakku was definitely not the falcon because the showed the ship leaving

Correct and that is my point. Whoever did the deal to take Rey on Jakku could have possibly done so with the Falcon as collateral/payment. They show the people leaving on the smaller transport ship that looked like a flying triangle shaped ship. The Falcon being left on Jakku as well as Rey is too much of a coincidence.

Rey only knew of Darth Vader by reading Kylo Ren's mind. It's unlikely she knew anything of him before.

I don't know about that. If she heard stories of Luke and Han I'm sure there are nightmare stories about Darth Vader.

I'm guessing people in the galaxy would have heard of Darth Vader. They certainly would have been familiar with the Emperor.

Well yeah that was my point next to the Emperor he has to be the most well known person in the galaxy in the last 100 years.

Weekend actuals came in about $4M lower than estimates, but that's still ridiculously strong.

$31M more on Monday, which is just absurd. Have to figure it's a matter of when, and not if, Avatar goes down at this point.

how did avatar make 2.7 billion? was it in theaters for a year or what?
Pretty much. It was one of the first live action digital 3D movies. So it had the new catchy gimmick and several theatres started the conversion. Many people just went back to see it in 3D when their theater converted.

Star wars can hit 600 million tonight or tomorrow..... .. and it very well could break 750 million domestic by the end of the weekend meaning it can do in 3 weeks domestically what took Avatar 8 months.

If they are smart, they'd add 10 or so more minutes of dog fight sequences to the movie and make it special for 3D... and re-release it in late January or Feb of 2017 up until episode 8. I think that could give it the extra ooommpphh to break Avatar's record.

Yep China is the key. I think the US record is already a given, the rest of the world is a tougher sale.

The problem is right now the domestic/international split is about 50/50. You need it more like 33/67 to go at the worldwide record and unless China does something really unprecedented (which is possible), it's probably not going to get to $2.7B.

I think at the moment it has to do more with how its smashing domestic records ...... its doing well overseas but here its crushing it. If TFA stays in theaters 3-4 months, I can see it getting 1 billion domestic... its going to get 1 billion foreign easy, then its just a matter of how many times the fan boys like myself want to go see it..... I'll probably go once every other week from here on out myself.

That's certainly a factor, but say it gets $1B domestic. It would still need a 37/63 split to get to Avatar.

If you had to guess , where do you think it will end at? I'm guessing 2.3 Billion.

But who really knows, might just depend on how long they keep it in theaters... it hasnt even been 2 weeks yet and its right around 600 million both foreign and domestic... just crazy.

That's a pretty good guess. It's hard to say for sure because a film has never opened this big before and had this kind of legs. I expect we'll start to see steeper drops next week with the holidays being over, but it'll have a strong January. The Blu-Ray is set to come out on April 5th, so that's about when the theatrical run will end.

well it hit 600 million last night with another 29.3 million. If it just averages 30 million a day until sunday then it will reach 750 million domestic in just 17 days.

which is mind-boggling

All that being said, it's not really on pace to be in the top 10-15 all-time when adjusted for inflation (not to mention when adjusting for 3D/IMAX prices).

Still, though, it'll surely beat II and III, likely I and VI. And that'd be perfectly justified.

I saw on a movie talk show that even based on inflation , The Force Awakens still had the highest grossing opening and 2nd weekends of all time.

24. How did General Hux and Kylo Ren escape Starkiller base?
This isn't seen in the film at all:

Utilizing the tiny position sensor emplaced in Ren’s belt, Hux had tracked him to this spot. He would have taken Rey and Finn, as well, if not for the command that had been issued by the Supreme Leader. That took precedence over everything. There was simply no time left. The two renegades were going to die here anyway, he told himself as he followed the troopers carrying Ren into the nearby shuttle.

this might be a meaningless detail, but the junkyard owner never explicitly revealed ties to or sympathy for the First Order. He offered to pay for the droid (instead of stealing it) and only told his boys to steal it after Rey refused. He could've been acquiring the droid on behalf of the Resistance.

and, again, it definitely looked like his arm pulling young Rey in the vision.

I thought so too but then I read this article about deleted scenes

I thought it seemed like he just wanted the droid because he is a schmooze.

I'm in the camp that thinks that Kylo saved Ren in that flashback scene.
Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure that in order to fully go to the Dark Side, you need to kill family or friend. Kylo saved Rey, which was why he had a chance at "redemption" in episode 7 and killed Han to complete his turn to the Dark Side.

I'm also pretty sure Rey is Luke's daughter. There are just too, too many references for it not to be the case, and if it's not, it feels deliberately deceitful and not part of the narrative. Besides, did anyone mention that almost every time Rey does something cool, the theme music is the same as Luke's?

There will be big reveals in episode 8 for sure, but I don't think the family ties will be one of them. They didn't do much to keep up in suspense about Kylo's heritage, and I don't think they'll do it for very long with Rey. But considering that leaving the question unanswered in this movie means several million dollars more in ticket sales for repeat viewings to look for clues, then it's a smart move.

Just in case anyone is interested still. New years Eve the movie made 22$ million ..... and Friday, new years day it made another 35$ million bringing its domestic total to 687$ million and 2nd place all time domestic.. Avatar is #1 making 760$ million (it took 8 months to make that too) So its going to take over #1 Monday or Tuesday at the latest.

Brings up the question, if blue ray is accurate and April 5th is the release date, are they making a mistake? I'm sure it can still make some money in its 4th month and will people still go see it in March if they know they are just a few weeks away from the DVD?

April 5th would be a pretty quick turnaround, but movies are making it to home video quicker and quicker these days. Disney hasn't officially announced that date, but apparently the source has been reliable in the past.

I don't think it'll matter a whole lot. It will be pretty dead by the end of March (it'll have been out of IMAX for a while by then). For reference, Jurassic World was in theaters 23 weeks and from weeks 15-23 only made a total of about $3M. I expect this to smash home video sales too, which is big to the studio because they keep a larger share of the profits (don't have to split with movie theaters).

Was hoping the new black guy was the Jedi. That would've been awesome, but nope. Gotta make make this an equal gender opportunity for Jedis. It's only going to be so many times that these new Star Wars can reference Episodes 4,5,6 before they have to go on their own. Not liking the direction.
