-need recs on a guitar/amp tech in CKY. My 93 Rick 360 is having some electrical issues.

If I was in that neck of the woods I would check with RS Guitarworks in Winchester or Willcutts in Lexington.

For amps - if they didn't have any recs I'd contact David Allen in Walton.

I'll second: all of these folks are nationally known with good reputations.

-been on the sidelines too long, gonna get back to writing and playing.

-just bought a larrivee D-03e, should arrive this week. First acoustic ive owned in 10 years. Props to @grantbob.
I've owned a D-03 Larrivee for around 12 years. Great sound and feel. But have recently considered trading it for a medium body. Something from the Martin line probably. The Larrivee do provide a good adjustment for the action. But when I set mine down nice and real low where you're gonna want yours (.011 - .052), I'll get a buzz from the 8th on the D. Bring it back up just a bit, goes away. But the increased action height is noticed. Most say just play through it. Buzz just annoys me to death though.

I used to go to Willcutt's on Saturday afternoons in the early / mid aughts to window shop and test drive guitars I couldn't afford. Was a nice way to kill some time before getting hammered in the evening.

They fixed an old Yamaha acoustic of mine that had a slightly separated bridge.

I've got a '97 Epiphone Hummingbird that I bought new. It still sounds pretty good. Also have a 2017 Epiphone Les Paul Standard Pro and a 2019 Fender Player Strat. I play those through a Marshall DSL40c.

Excellent. I'm always a little apprehensive when making a recommendation that it will work out. Glad you like it.

-late 60s early 70s sound city concord
...and another gibson, cant recall the model, think its a skylark.

Also:

Those Gibson amps are seriously underrated and a great "bang for the buck"

Yesterday, my band was offered a gig in September to play A NUDIST RETREAT.

Yes... you read that right.

The band does NOT have to play naked but everyone else will be. Working the tremolo naked would require a deft touch lol.

We'll probably pass as its over an hour from my home... but maybe Willy ( @Gassy_Knowls ) could take this gig... its right up his alley

Is it a retreat for senior citizens or college girls? That could greatly sway any decisions made.

I imagine that the people who will be nude there, are the people you don't want to see nude.
This is my expectation as well.

A retreat of supermodels? Sure... I'M ALL IN!

Guessing it'll be a bunch of old fat folks that need to be at Planet Fitness instead of a nudie retreat.

BTW, the place is Cedar Trails in Peebles, Ohio.

They have a website, which I cant link from my office (lol).

Friday nite, and I kid you not, is TACO NIGHT.

You really should check out the website: its hilarious.

For example they have a link "Take Home Memories". What is that, a link to STD's?

You will cry laughing at the "Notes for Men" section.

Some jokes write themselves.

@Gassy_Knowls needs to see this.

-yep, didnt have to pay much for those amps(bought 10 yrs ago), and while they're prices have risen they're still 1/2 the cost of a comparable fender. The maestro is *special*...and can still be found under a grand.

-may be in market for a reverb pedal and a trem pedal. Thoughts?

-i have a morley emerald echo, but im likely gonna grab a boss waza craft analog delay, thoughts?

...and as if it were ordained by GOD, a strymon flint popped up on local craigslist at a very reasonable price, mint.

- @grantbob is my official catpaw gear advisor.

That is a KILLER pedal with both trem and reverb. Usually pricey but worth every penny. Enjoy!

@P19978

-what pedal(s), if any, do you find indispensable?
Before I answer... a little background...

I play live ... I do not work in studios... so RELIABILITY is critical.

My gig board is:

Guitar- Shure GLDX wireless- Teese wah- Analog Man compressor- Earthquake Fuzz- MXR Flanger- Chorus- Phaser- Carbon Copy De!ay- CAE Boost/Distortion- Analog Man Treble Boost - amps.

The MXR Carbon Copy Delay is the only thing thats "always on". Im not a reverb user.

I dont need much pedal gain as my amps are usually a Mesa Boogje Mark IV and a Marshall Silver Jub RI (I use an amp head switcher to toggle back and forth).

I have retired a few pedals due to their rarity/value... I have a Captain Coconut and a Mesa VTwin... both AWESOME pedals

-before i had the burriss made i used a rectoverb and a peavy classic 30(later replaced by a bogner shiva combo) through an aby box...one "wet" with a boss trem/pan and amp reverb and the other dry with a burriss boostier and frantone "the sweet"(went missing...they go for big bucks now, sad) germanium fuzz. Occasional wah or volume. Eventually replaced the boogie with the burriss.

^not sure if thays the "right" way...but i loved it.

-never been able to use a delay properly...difficult to make it musical if that makes sense. In reality i was too lazy/not committed enough...and it wasnt essential to our sound.

^trying to remedy that as i just picked up a boss dm-2w. Old dogs new tricks and such. Any advice...or does it just a metter of trial/error?

Tom Weber, who is EVH's guitar tech, once told me "There is no "right" way... if it sounds good, it is good". He is absolutely right. That's why I use several relatively inexpensive MXR pedals.

As to your delay question, I struggled trying to find the right delay. Lots of folks like the Line 6 stuff... but it sounded "unnatural" to my ears. I owned several before the MXR Carbon Copy. I found out that I very much prefer analog vs digital. My delay is set tight and low to provide just a little slap and ambiance... you don't really notice it until its turned off.

I play strictly in cover bands so, for me, effects are song dependent to a large degree.

Hey Rudd-

Delay settings can vary greatly depending on what kind of sound your are going for. Do you want an "always on ambience" like @P19978 ? Are you looking for soaring leads like David Gilmour? A more prominent "effect" like U2?

The DM2 waza is a great pedal. I'd put it last in the chain before your amp (after the Flint). Start with a low setting on the repeat rate knob (all the way left, then up just a little) - same on the intensity knob. The echo knob controls the volume of the delay repeats. For musical sounds you probably want it lower volume than the initial note. Adjust this by ear until it sounds good to you. That should get you started.

-i appreciate you sharing the knowledge, grantbob and p19978.

-ive always had really nice amps/guitars...and played "straightforward" rock/power pop...so guitar/boost/od to amp, occasional amp verb and a trem pedal for a couple songs a set is all im "comfortable" with. Now that im likely just gonna play/record in the basement i want to expand my tone pallet...cheaper midlife crisis than a girlfriend, i reckon.
