To be able get over the hump you are going to have to schedule harder in the OOC and beat some top teams in your conference.

In the 5 games so far against Nova, SJU, and UConn he has looked out matched due his size disparity.

17-51 FG (33%)
0-4 from 3
16 assists / 12 turnovers
19 fouls.

If the team is going to compete for NCAAT births is that going to get it done?

how much of your budget are you willing to spend on him?

it’s unfortunate but as the season is going to fall short of reaching that milestone, these will be the questions that start to linger over the program.

And it’s a big one to say the least.

He’s a good player. Retention helps. In a better offense with more consistent threats wouldn’t be taking 12+ shots per game average when you can’t hit a 3 or finish at the rim.

His decision making lacks surprisingly often all year long.
Crazy how bad he was down the stretch today though. Just didn’t need any of it. Threw away a great TEAM shooting performance for hero ball. Selfish.

No major wants a 5'8 pg who cant shoot. Maybe he goes the coleman rout for a few hundred thousand more and a backup role. Hard to turn down a few hundred thousand if u love the game. Budds problem is he hasnt learned how to change direction and stop and start. With his speed and these skills he should beat his defender everytime. The word is out on him. Cheat back a bit more cuz hes going full steam to the paint. We prob have a chance at affording and keeping him more than najai

In regards to the original post, you do realize that Demary & Ball are one of the best defensive tandems in the country, don’t you? When they are given free rein to constantly reach & bump it makes them even tougher.
This isn’t the best take when they let Budd do the exact same thing. I swear they could justifiably whistle him on every single play.

Not getting the hate for Budd all of a sudden. He had a subpar game shooting and had 5TO's. His shot hsd been off last couple games. He also had 8 assists today. There were a number of games this year that he seemed to carry the team. When he was out our offense was stagnant. Today others carried the team offensively. On D, I thought the whole team played well.. . 3 pt defense not the best... especially on Karaban. He was MVP for them. But
.. to put Clark under the microscope in this thread is a little bit of a stretch. Unless a better PG all of a sudden pops up...he has enough positives to be a keeper in my book.

Against some of the other teams he’s won us games. Keep him and adjust the offense when we play the big physical best teams. We don’t have enough money, so we have to scheme our way around our strengths and matchups better. I say keep him 100% and he gets in the gym to work on finishing and get slightly better at shooting.

next year he will be better. A year older, his second year against big east competition. He is a keep.

we just played a top 4 team at their place on Sr day even till two awful calls killed us, and SHU fans cant stop ripping the guy who has been our clearcut best player all season.

He is selfish in end of game situations; plays hero ball; hope he can adapt. He also is a liability on defense vs bigger guards.

I thought so. Mike’s first attempt to spell Budd resulted in a turnover, his second foul, and a seat on the bench. His second stint was much better. I have been hoping to see Sha let Mike spell Budd rather than Parker, and today we got to see that happen by default.

Well said…Clark has been our most consistent player all year. Collectively as a team we have failed to beat the better teams in the conference. Bud Clark is not solely responsible. That being said, there is room for improvement. Adding a more consistent perimeter game and finishing at the rim. He has a terrible habit of jump stopping in the middle of the lane resulting in being amongst all the tall trees. I would love for him to come back in 2026-27, but not at the expense of not having the NIL money and revenue to retain Hines. In college, capable and talented big men are so vital to success.

Aren’t you the guy who laments that Sha will never be able to have retention and develop and build players?

So, the question is at what price are you ok to abandon retention for new players and unknown

He tries to do too much. When we took possession down 1 with :40 left he was out of control: Nearly slipped, then the dribble got away and instead of passing and realizing he’s out of control, he threw up a joke of a shot.

He does this a few times per game.

I just don’t see how you can bring back a 5’8 pg, who can’t finish at the rim or shoot the 3. We have one of the worst offenses as a power 5. For 700k look elsewhere

After his third foul today, he was taken out and we went up by eight. No point guard on the floor, but our offense moved and flowed. He returned and we slowed down and lost our edge. It reminded me of the St. John's game up by 15. He has had a good year. If he is getting 700K---800K this year, I'd not pay him more.

If we can keep Hines, Clark and Simpkins we’ll have the opportunity to build some continuity. They will all be better in year two. Probably looking at close to $5 million for those three.

He was terrible all game today and everyone even guys who have been bad stepped up. He literally hogged the ball cause he wanted glory and being the guy over winning. He rubs me off just by how arrogant and selfish in the last minute.

Also people excusing that ridiculous bait foul are ridiculous. Players need to stop baiting. I actually thought was more of an NBA thing since NBA pathetically coddles their golden boy stars, but now unproven college players trying to use fouls.

Clark is a great player, hopefully he steps up last two games, but evidence against great teams is evident. And last couple of weeks his offense has been mid at best. Clark can score, but he simply needs to playmate which he legitimately is good at. I understand other guys have been up and down as well, but that is why it's on Sha to get guys their looks and find confidence on offense.

Probably be best to bring him back if capable, but for me he is like that borderline all star in NBA you try to rely on but you know isn't good enough. If he comes back the team simply needs a capable back up guard, probably even better.

Clark has been our best player and sucks going after him, but it's fair game when the whole team has been a dissapintment since being ranked and constantly losing. And again he simply hasn't stepped up against the best. If your the best or one of the best, the best have to at least be more consistent.

And end of day team doesn't really have that guy anyway. He is most important, but for me guys like Mccray and Simpkims have had stretches as the guy. For me Sha has failed to consistently put guys at their best consistently.

In a game like this they could justifiably blow a whistle on just about anyone on every single play. The fact that Budd is giving up 6" to both makes it a little tougher on him don't you think? Sure there are areas of his game that need improvement but the bottom line is he's been the most dynamic play maker we've had since Aiken's couple of decent games.

I like Clark, he's good not great, I want him back, but he may not be the best option in a Holloway iron-fisted, highly controlled, boring, set play offense.

Budd definitely did not play well at the end of today's game but UConn, StJohn's & Nova are by far the best teams and coaches in the Big East and they've shut down a lot of quality players. They're 40-3 against the rest of the Big East this year.

He also played well in the first UConn game and the last Nova game so 2 good, 2 brutal and this one today. He was good enough today for 37 minutes and then played poorly. Overall he's had a good year and is clearly the team's most indispensable player.

In my opinion you definitely want him back. Sha is best with some continuity and familiarity with his players. Kadary Richmond and Al Dawes both struggled their first year's in Sha's system, even more than Budd, and were excellent in Year 2. You would have to expect a similar boost in Budd's play if he comes back.

Am starting to think Himes decided late and the Hall was nearby and would take him. Wonder if he is thinking of this year as kind-of a high school post grad year and to build up his worth. Hope I'm wrong.
