Hurley would not take a Seton Hall player. Pitino is another story.
I think Hurley would make an exception in Hines case. If we're not going to be able to afford him anyway why let another conference scoop him up. The kid is just oozing with potential. Give him a coach with a proven track record of developing big men as well as knowing how to get him the ball on offense & watch out.

On the topic of Hines and hometown discounts, from the NY Post today:

"After last season, in which Ejiofor established himself as one of the top forwards in the country, schools lit up the phones of Philachack and Ejiofor’s agent, Jason Glushon. Multiple SEC schools promised paydays around $4 million. Ejiofor only made $300,000 at St. John’s each of his first two seasons. But he never entered the portal, and never considered it. St. John’s didn’t match the numbers thrown out there by the poaching rivals, but gave Ejiofor a significant raise into the seven figures and what Philachack felt was fair compensation."

Again who knows the accuracy and Zuby seems wired differently than most kids.

He’s a nice player, won’t make the all BE freshman team, averages 6 & 5, with that being said he should be our top priority. But he won’t sniff 2 mill
I think he’s edging back into consideration for All-BE Freshman team and will get $2m offers this offseason.

I was not talking about them "grabbing" him the way you took it. I was talking about it in the sense they would love to have him on their teams and how much better those teams would be for it! How much better his numbers would be with 4 studs to play with.

Which means he got over 3M. No kid is giving up 1M or more to stay home

I'm not. Again, all this NIL stuff is somewhat of a "black box", and who knows whether what one reads or hears is accurate, in whole or part. But there have been stories or interviews in which "Player X" took less money to stay at a particular school.
Ok, hope you’re right.

So how do you explain going from a historically bad season to 19-10 (9-9)? How did he assemble a roster if what you say is true? I don't doubt he made mistakes in the past 1-2 years, but given our budget (reportedly lower half), we surpassed a lot of teams with bigger name coaches spending a lot more money. And should I ask former players or people with knowledge? You're neither, and you still haven't answered the question, except to try to diminish a good season by saying the conference sucks. Which is what trolls do, so...

He's a young big man who has shown talent to be a P4/BE starting Center. He's oozing potential and he hasn't had the benefit of a full offseason yet to improve.

His lack of minutes and Sha not making him a priority in the offense pull down his per game averages but on a per minute or per possession basis he's been very efficient.

He is #1 in the Nation in Block %, he's 18th in the Nation in Offensive Rebounding% and 109th in Defensive Rebounding %. On a per posession basis, he is our team's leading Offensive player and our leading Defensive player. Nearly every advanced analytics show him as our best player on both sides of the ball.

He substantially leads our team with a 120.7 KP Offensive Rating and despite only averaging 17 minutes per game he's rated as our 2nd best player and 20th among all Big East players by Evan Miya.

True Big Men get paid the most by far in today's market. Payne got $700k+ coming from Jacksonville as a PF/C tweener who averaged 8 pts & 6 rebs. Lathan Sommerville was said to have made $1.5M after his freshman year at Rutgers. Hines is a true 5 who has proven himself in the BE, he will be paid handsomely, I hope its by SH.

Who knows. It comes down to decisions we all have to make in our careers. I once turned down double my salary because I thought long term I was in the best spot and positioning myself to make more down the road. I have no doubt that quite often the highest bidder gets these kids, no different than FA in professional sports. Occasionally you get an Aaron Judge, or as another poster pointed out, a Monroe from Quinnipiac.

Most people "in the know" aren't trolling here. I didn't say the league has nothing to do with it, but you and the same 3 or 4 clowns always try to make your point by diminishing accomplishments (in this case a 20-win season). I guess McDermott, Smart, Matta, and Cooley are terrible, too?

Lol ok

They are terrible this season..what about last season? Same thing?

I said good job on a turn around..not perfect but he deserves credit

Doesn’t change the fact it is well known he is terrible at reading the market and is very tight with his offers..why do you continue to ignore that?
