Very solid post and people should read it.

I have the same feelings as yourself sir. I remember going to the Mich State game back 2005 and beating Mich State. We had so much hope back them. We packed the place in '03 against the machines (THE U) and took it them for 3qrts. People just had hope under GS.

Babbs09 - the arrests/and muscling a professor didn't cause the lack of enthusiasm. It put the nail in the coffin - Flood gives us no hope. And that started after getting blasted in the AAC.

Agree. This ALL started with the disasters on, and off the field, in the fall of '13. Yes, we had some great crowds last year, no question, but the "seeds were planted" in '13.

Not like today; awaiting the clubbing.

I'd be willing to accept that. Getting smoked by teams like Houston certainly didn't help. Add in embarrassing home losses to the likes of Tulane. The bedrock for apathy was there, just needed to be tipped over. Now the reality of having to face programs that actually have their **** together is a little more daunting than some of us thought it would be. We also didn't plan on having transfers kicked off the team for fighting, or a majority of our secondary being thrown in jail, or our best players on Offense and Defense being hurt or suspended, or our HC trying to do his best Ethan Hunt impression (mission impossible), or any of the other bad **** that's happened to us.

Yeah, those crowds for PSU and Michigan last year were really horrible because of our AAC play. What alternate universe did that happen in?

Whether you like the truth or not, the enthusiasm went down tubes with the starting defensive backfield and kept circling the drain for the next few weeks. Just because some fans where already in the sh!tter means nothing - they all still showed up to the games and screamed their heads off. Now, not so much.

Don't you ever do that again. You better apologize now!

I think Rutgers wins. For some reason a force makes Michigan State drop the ball, Rutgers scoops it up and runs it in for the winning touch down. Rutgers 35 Michigan State 31

MSU has outscored opponents 107-31 in the first half, but slipped 50-73 in the second. Playing not to lose? A defense that wears down?

if you think msu is going to come out flat again in the second half you don't watch much sports.

I'm not at all sold on Connor Cook. The MSU offense will stall at least on one drive in this game.

MSU 49
RU 3

Our fans will show up at the end of the first quarter, see a score of MSU 21-0, realize it's chilly at night in NJ in October when you're only wearing a T-shirt, and be gone by the end of the second quarter.

Unusual fast loose start for RU, we are up 24-0 at halftime. Security beefs up at the field entrances. They come back to tie. Federico wins it on a 53yd FG against the wind! Us fans are on the field till 2am!

MSU hasn't covered a spread all year.
+ injuries to few guys they might not feel the need to rush back vs Rutgers + fact that their Michigan game is next week, doubt they open playbook. they are just going to run the **** out of the ball.

MSU and other Big Ten programs want to maintain an edge over Rutgers for the top NJ recruits so the beat downs will continue. Blowouts are a recruiting pitch and message for recruits.

MSU will look to pile up points to boost their ranking after a narrow win last week. Rutgers no show defense will accommodate . This game will not be close or competitive.

for what it is worth, rumblings elsewhere are telling us that the game is close to a sellout and could get there with a decent walk up

The crowd and timely sacks by our DL (including the re-breaking out of the Kemoko Dragon) propel us to arguably the biggest upset in program history

Rutgers - 24
Sparty - 20

I think we win. I think you are right. The score will be a higher but I think we can throw against them. We have a ton of skill position threats. LC and JG are touchdowns waiting to happen. We just need to get a little run to keep them honest. And, we need the refs to leave our offensive line alone and let them block. We'll have to beat the refs too on this one. Its going to be exciting as hell. I can't wait!!!!

Will not predict a win. If I did I would just be doing so to be a homer. Lets be honest, we are dogs in this game for a reason.

THAT BEING SAID .......

I absolutely do NOT believe MSU is the # 4 team in the nation. Actually not even close. Again, lets be honest--they are #4 because they finished extremely strong LAST YEAR. Remember in 2007 when we were ranked #10 ? Yeah well I do. And we damn well didn't deserve that either.

This is not a national championship caliber team we are playing.

And with that being said again, we'll probably get shellacked. But g*d****t I'm walking to into that stadium with some fracking optimism! Of course we must eliminate the self destructing penalties, play at least mediocre defense, and have the ability to throw the ball more than 8 yards past the LOS. But I don't think of any of those things are pie in the sky either.

I'd say MSU has some serious concerns. We are not a top 5 team to this point.
A bunch of injuries, many in the same position, the OL. Plus, the secondary lost a lot the last 2 years and is being rebuilt, also with a key injury.

As a result, they are playing more conservative, especially with a lead in the 2nd half, making the games much closer.

Rutgers has a a lot of talent and will be fired up.

As I said, some concerns

Michigan State 30 RUTGERS 9 in front of 52,778

Like Matt Millen , I have faith in Laviano , the kid can be accurate , nice stable of backs , night game atmosphere, and tell me what Michigan state has done, have you watched Oregon this year, and they were one accurate throw from beating them in east lansing , and freakin purdue had them beat, so they ARE beatable and there ARE athletes on this team. The bye week is going to surprise people.

Its hard for me to get excited about this game. I will absolutely watch, but this kinda feels like that time when you go into a fight against a bigger, older kid and you know you are just gonna have to take your licks to gain respect.
