you don't think 60 people shot during a holiday weekend effects police being skittish and perhaps even detached?
I like it. Two police officers were on top of a guy holding him down and one of them shot the guy 4 times because he was skittish.

What? Well why suspend them? That answers everything. What were we thinking. The man was skittish! What more do you people need? When cops are skittish they can shoot you a half dozen times while being piled on top of you. Says so right there in the Bill of Rights. What's wrong with you people?

Probably so she has evidence in case she is murdered for unbuckling her seat belt or some other threatening movement by a black person. Yet, they can take in mass murdering white folks without killing them. It can be done.

These cops are just trigger happy because they know ultimately they have little accountability. I'll be waiting on pins and needles for the NRA to discuss how outraged they are that people are getting killed for expressing their 2nd amendment rights. White people can carry their guns openly in the middle of the street but a black man can't even get out a license without being shot in front of their family.

Tell us again how blacks are not targeted by police and that it's just a fantasy. Makes you wonder how many were killed before cellphone cameras.

Gonna be a record year for both people killed by police and people incarcerated. No, no police state here. It's time to burn this mother to the ground.
Yep, police state, militarization of police, mass prisons...all big government Democrat ideals. All funded by the love of taking my money through taxes while democrats similarly tell democrats they need to do what they say...by throwing more government on everything will fix everything. I wonder why the prisons are full..oh because they can be we just need to milk to tax payer more so it doesn't matter..go ahead and profile and do whatever, it can be funded. Wonder why the police don't get in a lot if trouble and keep their jobs....oh yeah, Unions.

Cut the taxes, funding, and make people accountable and put in positions where job loss is possible....things change. Things that are important are focused on and through competition only the best are employed.

Possibly in the city the shootings occurred. Did either of these events happen in the same city as the 60 people shot?
He was responding to Chicago thus my response. But yeah, cops that work high crime areas undoubtedly get too desensitized to the value of life and they also get skittish to all the violence across the country against them. Crazy times all around.

I have to call BS here. I saw two men pin a guy down to the ground and while he was pinned down THEN draw their weapons guns and shoot the man. After the man had been shot they reach into his pocket and pull something that looked like a gun out of his pants and at no time did I see the man with a gun in his hand. My eyes say the man was murdered. Two videos two angles same story.

The guy was a criminal and the cops were called to the scene after he was acting like an idiot brandishing a weapon. After not complying with officer orders, they're forced to take him to the ground to gain order. They put a pistol to his chest and told him to stop or they'd shoot. He had a GD gun in his pocket and they didn't have control of his right arm. They go home, he goes to the dirt. Lesson learned. There will be no charged filed.

They used more leniency than they had to by the law.

Police need to seriously strike and leave these neighborhoods and I believe it's coming. Let the hood police itself and watch the destruction.

My BIL was a 3rd shift beat cop, amazing how his personality changed when he left the force. Absolutely not justifying anything, cops that do wrong have to be punished....but I doubt any of us really know what they encounter day in and day out. I watch First 48 and just shake my head that there are people that do that every day as a job.

Really felt sorry for the cop in this situation. If only the guy had not disobeyed his direct order not to reach this whole situation could've been avoided.

Yeah, poor cop. He's still alive today. If only he hadn't COMPLETELY OVERREACTED.

S&C would just feel right at home in cold war Eastern Europe. He would be in his element. I have never in my life seen an individual that understands less about freedom, our Constitution, nor our Bill of Rights than he does. He is a very, very scary person. I mean that in a real "break out the hypodermic needles and restraint vests and handcuff his ankles" sort of Hannible Lecter sort of way, too.

thinking about starting a thread taking bets on when the next cop shooting/mass murder will happen. It's every month now, sometimes back to back days like we had this week. Riveting stuff, truly. Who needs reality tv?

I love the debates it brings out and the way it unifies everyone, causes people to change their viewpoints on race, society, politics. It's really a great thing.

I asked months ago about starting a celebrity death pool....got ZERO traction.

In the south side of Chicago police officers should be skittish. Area is messed up. Just not relevant to the rest of the country.

Notice the hypocrisy.

You have a mass shooting and the gun nuts like SC will say "it was the person, not the weapon. You have a right to have your gun. Concealed Carry is my RIGHT! It is every American's RIGHT and MUST BE PROTECTED AT ALL COSTS!"

Then two cops pile on top of a guy and hold him down while shooting him 4 times. Then you ask SC why that was okay for the cops to do that?

BECAUSE HE HAD A GUN IN HIS POCKET!

Again, his weapon was in his pocket on the side his free arm was, correct? You can't see in either video what he is doing with that hand.

If the gun was in his pocket why did the cop scream he has a gun? Could it possibly be he was reaching for it? I know that's outlandish, but what is more likely, the cop was tired of wrestling with him so he just shot him, or he did in fact show the weapon? As you said there were 2 cops there so it wasn't like he was going to beat their asses, but he might squeeze off a round.

561st civilian killed by police so far this year. Again, seems disturbing to me that American cops seem to need to kill people at such a higher rate than cops elsewhere. But, we could ignore that and bicker over race.

Not making excuses for careless or incompetent police work, but what also seems to be at the heart of these situations is the suspect attempts to evade the police in some manner or fashion. I think this stems from the fact that there appears to be a widespread fear of police in the AA community, and the initial reaction is to defend or evade, which as we have seen time and time again escalates the situation.

Again that's not an excuse for excessive use of force that results in injury or death of a suspect but just looking at how this problem could be addressed. A lot has been written about better training and screening of police officers and there is merit to that, but I also think it would be prudent to educate some in the AA community that evasive actions make you look guilty and can perpetuate a bad result like we have seen in these most recent tragedies.

You don't think cops seeing cops in other cities either getting killed or getting charged with murder effects their mindset? The weaker minded the cop the more it would I would imagine. We need to be focused on culling bad cops not indicting the whole system. In the latter, everyone loses.

Open carry and concealed carry are not the same thing. Louisiana is an open carry state, and the deceased had the gun in HIS POCKET, thus being concealed. That is ignoring the fact that he was a felon and shouldn't have had the gun in the first place.

Are you slow?

There is a responsibility when carrying a weapon. The guy broke every rule (and law) while carrying, and got shot. I do not believe the cop should be policing, as there should have been time to determine a non threat, but it's easier said than done in the moment. The man used extremely careless judgement. Carrying a weapon is a huge responsibility and he literally was doing everything wrong.

For the thug that was killed while brandishing a weapon, not complying with orders, and being a complete dumbass, TOUGH. You can lie about it over and over till your head explodes. There will be no charges filed.

Explain to me why only the AA community needs to learn this fact? Do other races not make evasive actions during traffic stops?

No. A police officer in Owensboro, KY should not be fearful because of something that happened in Chicago. Just like a bank teller in Owensboro shouldn't be fearful because a bank in Tulsa, OK got robbed.

Oh hell Z, simply doing as the cops ask you isn't cow tailing to authority, it's called being a responsible person.

A cop tells you to get down, AND you have a weapon on you illegally concealed, you get down.
The cop doesn't want to shoot you, they want to get everything sorted out, and when that occurs you tell them what happened.
What you don't do is explicitly ignore their commands, their job is to enforce the law. That's it, it's not complicated, if you want to live in a peaceful society then they are necessary.
If you want Armageddon them by all means keep jumping to conclusions.

Obviously the same advise applies to everyone - if you're stopped, cooperate, show your hands. I'm a white guy and when I was young, I had a police office pull a gun on me once on a route traffic stop becasue I (stupidly) jumped out of the car fast and turned towards him. But it's the AA community that is in focus here as it seems most often they are the victims in these situations.

Legal terms.

Prosecutor: Why did you shoot the suspect?
Cop: he had a gun.
Prosecutor: Were you fearful for your life?
Cop: yes.
Prosecutor: So you were fearful and you shot the suspect?
Cop: yes.
Prosecutor: How about after you shot him once?
Cop: yes.
Prosecutor: Twice. You shot him twice. Are you still fearful? Reasonably with two cops on top of a suspect you have shot at point blank range twice in the chest and you are still reasonably fearful of your life?
Cop: yes.
Prosecutor: So you shoot him a third time? And that wasn't enough to restrain the suspect that was selling the CDs in front of the store?
Cop: yes.
Prosecutor: So it wasn't until you shot the suspect a fourth time at point blank range in the chest with another police officer on top of the suspect that you felt reasonably safe from harm?

Cop is going to get taken apart on the witness stand.

The system needs to be indicted. Bad cops are protected by the system. So-called good cops nearly universally cover for bad cops. We train our police like they're going into a war zone, train them in force escalation and teach them to always be afraid (despite police not having a particularly dangerous job, and roughly 50 cops being murdered per year out of 800,000 sworn officers working out to a rate 50% higher than the general population) and neglect deescalation and peaceful resolution of situations. This isn't just a "bad cop" problem. We have a widespread systematic policing problem. Just look at this example - this cop in this video wasn't some cold blooded killer who wanted to murder somebody. He freaked out and fired and was clearly distraught afterward.

All the money this country spends on **** and we can't make body cams for LEOs mandatory? My guess is you'd see some dramatic changes in certain statistics.

Heard an interesting take on Body Cams recently.. spoke with 1 officer on this, and he stated that most in his unit/dept don't want body cams, because it means everything has to be reported and tracked. They can no longer use discretion. So for instance, if you're doing 72 in a 65, blew a .02 when you're 300 feet from your house, or have a domestic screaming match that can easily be solved by separating the couple, ALL of those have to be reported.

The officer, with a body cam, can't fully use his judgement to assess the 3 situations and make the proper decision to let the offenders off with a warning. All three of those situations (the officer referenced these directly) would turn into citations/arrests, which also means more tax payer money, more work spent by the police officer and the station.

Just what I heard, thought it was interesting.

Z is an anarchist. Everything he says regarding police should be discredited immediately. He's entertaining though.

Police are given authority by federal law to gain control of the situation by any means necessary.

The one with the guy in the car is awful to see, and I would suggest the cop find other employment, but the man aided his own death by not following proper rules of carrying a handgun.

That's not me you are quoting. Perhaps your inability to simply follow a conversation and attribute quotations correctly suggests you are not capable of meaningfully participating in this discussion and get back to watching your SAW marathon on Netflicks while you play with your dental instruments to remind you of your good old days back in East Berlin.

Is it safe?

And before we get the same people saying more white people are killed by cops:

Obviously, some people don't understand statistics. That would be because white people make up 80% (250 million) of the entire population while African Americans make up 13% (35 million)....nearly 8x less... that 13% makes up nearly 51% of all police brutality deaths. That's insane. So what that means is for every white person being killed by cops, there are 5-7 blacks being killed at a higher frequency rate. If you fail to see the disproportionality in that, i have nothing to say to you.

I agree with you, to an extent.. but at the end of the day a job is a job. Like it or not, Cops are doing this to get paid, just like every other job/career out there, public service or not.
