I'm going to ask a question straight out of Germany...

..given Mullen's track record with QB's, why aren't QB's nationwide clamoring to at least meet with Mullen & talk? Mullen has Tim Tebow on his resume, yet when it comes Mullen recruiting QB's, it's like pulling teeth. Sandberg should have been Mullen's Plan B; not his whole apple cart. Everytime I look at your commit list the QB section always sticks out like a sore thumb.

Pigs claim he is a non-qualifier but who knows. thanks to Slive, no SEC schools can really risk it w/ these guys anymore.

Slive's general signing rules went national -- they now apply to everyone in the NCAA.

1) Tyson Lee
2) Chris Relf
3) Tyler Russell
4) Tebow not exactly lighting it up
5) Alex Smith ...

if mullen is going to grab that top tier qb recruit ...he is going to have to hit that storyline "like a Johnny Football, again" and grab national headlines

6) Mullen is not the only great spread option qb
7) MSU is not exactly QBu
8) (just to see what else I can come up with) MS has no QB talent, that equates to SEC level this year or last year or the year before
9) Therefore you are going out of state to get someone, there is other spread teams in that state
10) in a great year we are the 6th best team in the SEC, until that changes that is what it is
11) our home right now in the SEC is 10-14th realistically
12) We don't have a young up and coming qb coach kids can relate to
13) At MSU you don't have the ability to take a chance on 2 most year, because you have so many other depth issues

This. Mullen is not the problem. It's the MSU reputation that scares them away.

Here's a fun fact: MSU has not had a QB DRAFTED in 34 years - I repeat, 34 years! 2nd longest drought at any position in the SEC. Russell will help our case starting next year.

not if we dont change offensive playing calling...

we are still running offense like we have a spread-option offense

I really look for Dak to get more snaps and Russell to just about be phased out by the end of the year.

How we play Russell won't affect his draft status. Our offense next year, according to popular opinion, will resemble more of a 2-tight pro-style and less of pure spread/read-option. The development should improve our run-game and offer better pocket-protection. Dak will get more snaps. But to think Russell will be "phased out" at any point of the season, barring some catastrophic meltdown, is not realistic.

Although he only played a short time as a RB, I thought Don Smith got drafted? That would have been what? Only 26 years?

He wasn't drafted to play QB. Nevertheless, 26 < 34.**

Well, Mullen hasn't had the type of QB on his roster needed to make any huge national news. He turned Relf into a pretty damn QB and now he's had Tyler, who doesn't fit his system.

The reason the "Dak needs to start" crowd has been vocal (myself included) is that from the little film we've seen of Dak, he reminds of a what Chris Relf looked like.... except that Dak has some actual talent.

Three stars for Sandberg seems a little low based on what we've heard about him, especially since 24/7 tends to rate a little higher than the others. Is the uncertainty of his future possibly factored in?
