Took care of business and avoided the Q3 daggers at home this week. Especially today in a sloppy game while getting killed from 3 yet again (11/19 to 4/10), whew.

And now we've got yet another chance for a Seton Hall team to elevate itself by beating Villanova. Wednesday is a HUGE game for The Hall. It's a legitimate good Q1 win against what will be a Top-30-35ish NET team on the road.

Seems like it always ends up this way at some point.

BTW, what are we at, 1 win down there since the 1994, the Powell/Mamu BE title team in 2019-20 I think?

9 games left, 5 are shaping up as Quad 1 Games including 3 of the next 4. But have to go 1 game at a time with this group. Knocking off Nova is tough but would be really big for us.

First game, Willard packed in his defense, slowed us down and let Clark shoot. We have to play uptempo, when Clark pushes the ball and has a running start it opens up opportunities for us to score. Villanova plays at one of the slowest paces in D1, need contributions from our bench so we can play uptempo as that unlocked our offense the last 2 games. Defensively we need to defend the 3 as its a staple of their offense. They shoot a lot of them and make them at a 36.7% clip. We allowed them to hit 10 for 23 the first game. Have to reign that in.

The same defensive approach should not work against Budd again. He is a completely different player than the last game. And we have Hines this time. I also think Dar could be very important to check Hodge.

Today may have been a great Prep for Nova. Similar in that they both thrive from three. We were challenged by Marquette from the perimeter. The first half was bad. I!d say Marquette plays at least as fast as Nova if not quicker.

Hines not playing hurt us and think him this time could be quite impactful. Could wear down their big man, as I think Nova doesn't have a lot of depth in the low post

We absolutely should have won there in '21. During Covid year, if Mamu catches pass, it is walk off dunk. Nonetheless, just another gut punch against Nova. If there is any fairness in the sports world, we win Wednesday.

Nova at Nova is not good karma for us.
Where is nova anything but not good karma for us? They own us at there place, our place, the garden, anywhere. This is a one sided series. Doesn’t matter where we play.

Kyle Neptune was the worst coach in nova history and wildly incompetent, even he was 6-1 vs seton hall.

If I’m not mistaken Clark got 2 quick fouls and sat most of the first half as well. If Clark plays most of the game along with addition of Hines I think we have a reasonable shot of winning.
That was a very strange game because we lost both Clark and Staton-McCray early. They only played a combined 8 minutes in the 1H, but we were only down by 4 at the break, 31-27. Then Nova went nuts and went up 55-35 before we staged a run.

We had no idea how to deal with them packing it in. We had a terrible offensive game and only shot 3/13 from 3 against their 10/23. Acaden Lewis carved us up too. Villanova's defensive approach was really a sign of things to come in the Big East and it helped them kills us on the boards too, 30-19. But we turned them over 18 times and took 63 FGA to their 45, simply could not shoot; 18/50 from 2PT and so many layups missed. The more teams crowd us the more our guys are not strong finishing.

We are not playing good basketball right now, and it’s been a while since we’ve played good basketball. If we can somehow return to our non-conference form, this team will make the dance. If not, we won’t.
This is a bizarre team. The second halves of games this week read like a team that knows what its doing and is taking care of business. I don't know why Holloway is totally unwilling to change what we're doing to start these games, it's beyond a pattern at this point.

Xavier = 56-27
Marquette = 36-23

This game is huge for The Hall, not as important for Villanova. Of course, Nova wants to add to their win total and stay away from The Bubble. However, "If" SHU were to get this one, they would get a needed Quad 1 win and also have a chance for 3rd place in the conference. Both teams have tough remaining schedules. Should The Hall go 6-3 and Nova go 5-5(not impossible), 3rd place "may" be possible. It will be tough though.

I really hope Sha can rev up the players in the next few days. Great point about Clarke getting those two early fouls in game #1 and Hines not being able to play in that one. The Hall did not play well, and they seemed nervous in those first few home conference games.

First game with the injury was a Hines no show. Let's make this game the Hines Show!

Only concern I have is the whistle. That said Jay isn’t on the floor and Kevin has never really benefited from a Jay like whistle. But the place will have a ton of students and it will be loud so it could influence the refs.

We haven’t beaten Nova at the field house since the 1990s and we had some very good teams that couldn’t do it. I was at the SHU- NOVA game on campus In Angel‘s senior year. We were never in the game. Not sure what’s going to change on Wednesday night. Extremely difficult place to play.

The last time we beat Villanova at the ski lodge, "The Sign" by Ace of Base was the No. 1 song on the Billboard Hot 100, and the top ten also included songs by long-forgotten acts like Celine Dion, Color Me Badd, and Gin Blossoms.

There were guys on that team who were older than me, and I can pass for 70 in the right (or wrong) light today.

It was a long time ago. We are due. Overdue.

Surprised there were tickets available yesterday for $50, think it holds 6,000 fans. Surprised it wasn’t completely sold out.

I actually found a single for $39, which I snagged. It's not too bad a seat, either. Two or more tix got kind of pricy, though.
