It is 100% apparent that we will rarely, if ever play a good game at walsh. this is the woman's practice court, everything about it feels like a scrimmage. There might have been more people at the secret scrimmage.

The teams we usually play here are a little more used to it. I get that our guys should play hard every time, but mentally even i wouldn't be able to take it seriously.

this isn't to say our team might still be bad, but these walsh games will always be trap games.

did anyone see the ESPN + footage? the in between footage kept rolling like it was a highshool game and someone put down the video camera.

i do think we would play better on the road tbh.

Yes, that was sheer incompetence in action. The halftime stuff was even worse...raw footage, no narration and squealing audio scrambles. Utterly ridiculous. The fact that this was ESPN makes it even more egregious.

You think ESPN was spending a dime on this production? How many people do you think actually watched on TV?

If you buy the rights and broadcast the games and you value your brand you can't allow garbage like last night to happen. It doesn't matter how many were watching. This is basic s**t. No excuses for that.

espn+ has like 50 hoops games on each night. and they had a whole lot of soccer games too. and i bet lots of other stuff too. lowest common denominator can be pretty low. just say no

This is the standard ESPN+ production. If you watched men's or women's soccer this year or mid-major basketball last year this is how they do it if it's not also on linear tv as well.

ESPN is televising 4,000 total games, with 3,200 this year on ESPN+. For comparison, Fox Sports televised 340 games last year & 274 this year; Peacock has around 200 this year. ESPN+ also televises numerous WBB, mens and womens hockey, wrestling, swimming etc. They are not spending the $$$ to upgrade the experience for the viewer. They just want as many exclusive games on their streaming only platform as possible so they can sell it to the customer.

One of the benefits of having a TV deal with someone like Fox Sports or even NBC/Peacock is that they will have the space to spotlight your games and put effort and money into production. Obviously with the new TV deal that is not going to be the case going forward for the early season mid-major games.

It's too bad someone didn't have the foresight to play Fairfield at the arena in Bridgeport. Doubleheader with Sacred Heart, Central CT, Yale, or Quinippiac in the first game. Would sell out at almost 10,000. Same place UCONN women often play early round NCAA tournament games. I know..... scheduling. Also some here will say playing at Fairfield is beneath us. C'mon. Playing at Walsh is more so.

Playing at Fairfield or any maac school is worse than playing at Walsh. Hopefully the Devils are on the road more next November

The only team in that group that would ensure a sellout is the UConn Women.

Seton Hall-Fairfield and any two of the other four half fills that building.

I am a true blue Setonia backer since 74. Fairfield's Leo Mahoney facility is top notch. Been there many times. Great suite area - Dilley. They sell beer and it is a true pit -below the road. I am impressed every time I step in the arena.

Really? My suggestion would be a Multiple Team Event. At least twice in the Big East era we played Iona at the basketball-unfriendly Westchester Civic Center.

I wonder if we made a similar deal with New Haven for the future. Probably not as I'm sure we'd already know but it would be totally on-brand for us as a way to save money.

If anybody recalls, we agreed to open Monmouth's then future on-campus building during the Amaker days and hosted the Hawks for several years before that arena opened. In the end, we weren't their first regular season game there but we did play there that first year.

We've also played at St. Peter's at their place and during the Quinlan/Gonzalez years visited Cornell, Longwood and Mercer -- the latter two were two-for-one deals.

I'm personally not opposed to the occasional visit to one of our regular early season opponents. I suspect it may be less viable for those teams to play us at home however if they're giving up cash to do so.

That was more than 30 years ago when we were still more closely associated with the MAAC schools than we are now. We were still playing games against St. Peter's in Jersey City into the mid-80's and St. John's maintained a home-and-home with Niagara for some time after the advent of the Big East.

At that time, Iona was considered a step above its MAAC brethren and Seton Hall-Iona could fill the County Center, a 5,000 seat venue. Note even then, we weren't going to Iona's on-campus building

It's different now. When is the last time we played a road game against a MAAC or similar level school. 15 years ago?

They played at Wagner once, visited Rider in Trenton and of course the aforementioned others, especially during the Quinlan/Gonzo years (including a game at Morgan State which might have been during the Orr era). The game at Monmouth was on the Sunday afternoon the weekend the building opened, after their first game on Friday night.

And as much as we’d like to forget it, that doubleheader with Hofstra last year didn’t exactly pack the Nassau Coliseum, despite Seton Hall’s apparent blue blood status that would sell out the Bridgeport arena.

With the scheduling this season in the wake of that disaster last year, it’s clear that they took a position of “We need wins, and if we have to fit in these games in at Walsh, then so be it.”

In an era when you need to maximize (a) money and (b) quality wins, this was the worst possible plan. So, of course, it was our plan.

By the way …. Check out the schedules of other teams. It’s not that the SHU is radically different.

And while you’re at it, check out the Devils schedule. The NHL has a three-week Olympic break in February, so the rest of the schedule is very compacted, so they have more home dates than usual until then. Also throw in things like multiple nights for acts like the Jonas Brothers and holiday-themed concerts, and SHU is going to get squeezed.

Throw in our trip to Maui as a major complication to the schedule.

We're playing five games in 16 days to start, have five days off, play three games in three days in Maui and then have a week off until the Central Connecticut game. We also have another week off during exams.

That's eight games in 24 days and then six (three of them away) through the end of 2025.

Needing that buffer around Maui did us few favors in terms of scheduling.
