As of now, it's looking like a front will come through late Friday or early Saturday, possibly accompanied by some showers, but hopefully those showers are over with by early afternoon, leaving tailgates (or at least the game) dry. Too early to know for sure, though, especially since 7-8 days out the timing of the front could easily be off by 12-24 hours. Temps look to be seasonable: typical highs/lows are 68/45 on 10/10. Even though I know we're down, it still sucks that I'm going to miss this game (35 year HS reunion - which I'm DJ-ing).

No real change in the forecast. Best guess now, though, is that the tailgates and game will be mild and dry, as it's still looking like the front will be through by Saturday morning. However, there's still uncertainty on that timing, such that a few showers can't be ruled out for Saturday afternoon/evening, if the timing changes. Having said that, even if we get a few showers, it's looking like they'd be scattered and light, whenever they hit (i.e., nowhere near a washout). Figures we'd get another gorgeous week with the only chance of rain near the game - must mean Patrick is on his way, lol. Latest discussion from the Mt. Holly office:

DESPITE GOOD MODEL AGREEMENT, I STILL HAVE SOME UNCERTAINTY WITH THE TIMING OF THIS SYSTEM. THEREFORE, I KEPT 20 TO 30 PERCENT CHANCES OF PRECIP FROM FRIDAY THROUGH SATURDAY, ALTHOUGH IF THE PROGRESSIVE SOLUTION HOLDS, THE WINDOW OF OPPORTUNITY FOR PRECIP COULD BE HALF OF THAT, IF NOT LESS.

If it rains, gone is the black out. In comes the all yellow crowd.

What crowd? It 'll be a bunch of empty seats.

Bracing myself for the "well that Friday night front has slowed down, looks like it might a wet one" thread from #s.

this mornings disco said the models have a more progressive frontal passage and any precip could be over by sunrise Saturday. Nothing to lock up yet but pretty encouraging. That would set us up for Partly Sunny skies and temps in the upper 60s during the day probably falling into the 50s for kickoff.

With the kickoff at 8, it would take a drastic shift to give us rains during the game so its a matter of seeing if rain lingers in the morning or at all to effect any tailgating

Starting to look really good for Saturday, as models have come into better agreement on a faster progression of the front on Friday/Friday night. Any showers should be over with be sunrise on Saturday. Saturday is shaping up to be partly cloudy with seasonable temps - highs in the mid/upper 60s and temps dropping into the 50s during the game. If the forecast holds, everyone will be pretty happy. I'd say if we don't see any model shift in the progression of the front by late tomorrow (4 days out), we're good. Here is an excerpt from the lastest discussion:

THE MODELS HAVE COME CLOSER WITH THEIR TIMING WITH THE 00Z SUITE.
THEY HAVE OVERALL TRENDED FASTER WHICH WOULD NOW GET PRECIPITATION CHANCES THROUGH BEFORE SUNRISE ON SATURDAY. AT THIS JUNCTURE THIS COLD FRONT HAS MORE TEETH THAN WEDNESDAY`S. BOTH THE GFS AND ECMWF ARE THERMALLY UNSTABLE ENOUGH TO SUPPORT THUNDER. WE ADDED A SLIGHT CHANCE DURING THE AFTERNOON AND EARLY EVENING.

THEN HIGH PRESSURE SHOULD BUILD INTO THE AREA AS THE WEEKEND
PROGRESSES. GIVEN THE TIMING DIFFERENCES, SUNDAY LOOKS TO BE THE MORE CONFIDENTLY DRIER OF THE TWO WEEKEND DAYS. ALSO WITH SOME TROFFINESS PREDICTED TO LINGER, SUNDAY SHOULD ALSO BE THE SUNNIER DAY.

Don't jinx us!
This!! Come on Patrick!!!!
I'll start posting inspirational meme's to your FB page...maybe that will keep away the rain God's...

I have not had a home game day without wet weather in well over a year now.

For fracking once, I'd love to go to a home game without bringing the damn poncho , rain pants, wondering which shoes I have to wear to keep dry, not bring a towel to wipe off the seats, make sure I have enough "layers". I just want to put on my damn jacket (black for this week), scream my a$$ off and enjoy the game (or at least the 1st quarter haha) with 50k compatriots. Is that asking too much?

Strangely, road games I've been to have been the exact opposite. I don't remember bad weather for a road game I've been to . It showered briefly in Tampa a few years back but that was it.

Still looking very good with the NWS afternoon forecast package. Official forecast is still for seasonably mild (highs in the mid-60s vs. 68F normal high) and dry, with the front and some rain coming through by Friday night, but the NWS in Philly still wants to hedge just slightly on the chance for some scattered light showers, due to instability, on Saturday. The NWS in NYC makes no such mention of the potential for showers on Saturday, since no models are really showing anything. Hoping even the mention of a slight chance of showers goes away by tomorrow, so we can lock it up for nice weather.

Below are the differing discussions from the two offices (keep in mind, both list Saturday as dry, officially); underlining is mine to show the differences for Saturday showers.

NWS Philly:

A LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM FROM THE
GREAT LAKES REGION WILL MOVE ACROSS NEW YORK STATE ON FRIDAY, WITH
ITS ATTENDANT COLD FRONT CROSSING OUR CWA LATER FRIDAY AND FRIDAY
NIGHT. LESS THAN ONE INCH OF PRECIPITATION IS CURRENTLY EXPECTED WITH
THIS LOW/FRONT COMBINATION AS IT MOVES THROUGH. HIGH PRESSURE THEN BUILDS IN BEHIND THIS SYSTEM FOR SATURDAY INTO SUNDAY, WITH A FEW INSTABILITY SHOWERS POSSIBLE...MAINLY ON SATURDAY.

NWS NYC:

RETURN FLOW ON FRI SO SW FLOW GETS BREEZY ALONG
THE IMMEDIATE S COASTS. UPPER LEVEL LOS AND ASSOCIATED COLD FRONT BRING CHANCES FOR PCPN LATE FRI THRU FRI NGT. BEST FORCING RIGHT NOW APPEARS TO BE NORTH OF THE REGION SO MAINLY A QUICK ROUND OF SHWRS EXPECTED. ANOTHER HIGH BUILDS IN THEREAFTER SO DRY FOR THE WEEKEND AND MON.

Funny thing is, as much as I talk about the weather, I don't do any "preparations" for it, since rain simply doesn't bother me - I get wet and ignore it (unless maybe it's 33F and mixed rain and snow, like that Army game a few years back where, yeah, it was miserable).

to put it bluntly, IMHO, being wet and cold sucks!

The Weather Channel's online site has a bit of what I guess you could call positive news. -Says the showers in the evening should take place early with clearing later at night, so maybe we'll catch a break and have the precip be out of here by game time.

The not so great news is that, right now, the chance of those early evening showers happening stands at 50%.

It is only Tuesday, though, so hopefully that will change...for the better.

NOAA has rain clearing out by 8am on Saturday. That works much better!

Why do people still look at The Weather Channel more than 24-hours or so out?

What does the EURO model say, the only thing I leaned from the most recent hurricane threat is the EURO model is the best.

Well, I guess I had some silly idea that it's a site that specializes in forecasting the weather. -A crazy notion, I know.

lol...just bustin' chops...we've been talking about them, and their incompetence long-range, for years now. No biggie!

Euro is not our friend here...it wants to develop a secondary low off the mid atlantic which would be the reason rain would extend later thru Saturday

Too late the jinx is play.
Unfortunately the updated Forecast now has rain starting on Friday night and into all day Saturday.
Hope this changes again.
Haven't seen this anywhere or in any model. Problem is the Euro, the best model (but not always the best - not nearly, actually - it crapped the bed on the "blizzard" last year) is spinning up a low on Saturday that could extend any showers past early Saturday. Needs to be watched, but there's still a very good chance for dry tailgates and a dry game - any rain that makes it past about 2-3 pm would be forecast to be scattered and light. Unfortunately, we may now need to wait a day or two before being able to call this one.

Well, hopefully it's the same deal as Michigan last year. Rain until midday, then clear and crisp.

This afternoon's packages looking pretty good - both the Philly and NYC offices have any showers being over by mid-morning and dry conditions for the tailgates and game. Less chance for this to change significantly as we're only 4 days away, but let's see what tomorrow's model cycle says, to be sure. Almost a lock, but not quite yet...
